Advertising these days is basically targeted. If you see an ad online, it means the internet bots have decided that ad is a statement about you...

Just be glad that wasn't full of porn sites and 'singles in your area' ads...

May be the investors bought not only SL as it's whole but also user's personally data? In some cases RL name, age, adress, E-mail account? Seems to be worth of lot of bucks nowadays....

We have been told that the Second Life advertising is indeed targeted, but that means don't sell it to somebody that already has it.  That's a big waste of advertising money.  Advertising companies that get that wrong are offensive, trying to sell GPUs and DRAM to me for months after I have purchased such from NewEgg WITHOUT searching around the Internet first.  I already know what I was needing.  THIS is why I use an ad blocker in my browser.  Most advertising companies are tremendous thieves, wasting their client's money and lying to them about it.  I do not want to be a part of that.

Maryanne seeing Second Life ads on a fresh install that knows nothing about her is not troubling.  Maryanne seeing Second Life ads, for the platform, not products sold within, after she has been using that installation for months or longer to read SL blogs, log in the secondlife dot com, etc, would be troubling.

That's a great idea. I can't promise anything on timing as there is still a long regulatory review process that is underway, but we will discuss internally as this seems like a "no-brainer" and I think most of the community will like what they have to say. I would imagine we'll have one or both investors on "Lab Gab" or some other form of town hall.

Interesting to see that Vanity Bonetto is taking a positive look on this change of ownership of Second Life. At 220 regions she does have a sizable investment in Second Life. I wonder what Anshe Chung's take on this is... she is the largest landowner is Second Life that I know of and has a massive stake in SL's future.

Even better!   This is what I spent my mad money on this past week (besides more sequins for a project) along with lots of popcorn seasonings from kernel seasons.

Not sure on the former, but I believe they're referring the land baron problem. While I don't have a problem with say, Luxory or the Chungs, I will say that companies like LIFE properties are a plague on SL.

I hope the lab gab or whatever it will be, will be announced well in advance (preferably here on forums or even an email) because I don't want to miss it! 

I'm one of the worried ones, but hearing things from the horses mouth, will do a whole lot to stop the end of the world as we know it thoughts. Just the simple fact they'll be interacting with the community right away already makes me feel better.

This would explain why they have spent so many months trying to make second life appear more profitable. Such as closing down sansar and selling it off, the big statements about how good of a financial place second life is in at present. I just hope that this investment company does right by Second Life. It would sadden me a great deal to see the years of hard work that not only the Lindens have put into SL, but also the residents, be flushed down the toilet on the whims of a company that is only interested in one thing. I guess we will have to wait for the soon™ interview. As a precaution though I am now going to be backing up as much as I can outside of Second Life on a regular basis so I am at least somewhat prepared should it all go horribly wrong. At least then, should I choose to, I can move to open sim and take most of my creations with me.

Want to get rid of these ads? Quit using Chrome and anything Google. Try Firefox with a script and ad blocker and search with DuckDuck Go. Running SuperAntiSpyware also helps.  And never, ever sign into anything with a Google or FB or anything account. In fact, quit FB. (Sorry Marketing!)

Hmmmmmmmmm and wow, I dunno what to say except what I really want to say which is I hope the investors consider over-hauling Marketplace.  Marketplace needs more sub-categories such as rigged/unrigged; mesh/partial mesh/non-mesh/combination for some examples plus it's lacking categories like curly hair, Victorian, antique, dinnerware and others I cannot think of at the moment.
