DJ flyers and band names
Alazarin Mondrian replied to Shy Czartza's topic in General Discussion Forum
@ Shy: rather than band names, just reference the genres of music you intend to cover as a DJ. -

How Far Into Realism Do WE Truly Want To GO?
Alazarin Mondrian replied to Bagnu's topic in General Discussion Forum
It might be OK for people who want their SL avatar to be nothing more than a mini-me of their RL avatar. Not so much for myself who lives in SL as a space-age anthropomorphic dragon. -
Lifetime Premium sounds like a nice idea but my wallet says no. So I'll stick with my grandfathered 500L$/wk premium account{s]. I'm sure for someone new arriving in SL, it's a great deal.

Events listings fail
Alazarin Mondrian replied to Alazarin Mondrian's topic in General Discussion Forum
OK... now my brain hurts. In spite of repeatedly getting the 'Service not currently available' error message, the events listings thingummy went ahead and wrote up our events [I've checked... they are there!] and didn't charge me for the listings. So it's kinda broken in more than one way. I don't mind paying for putting up events listings, it's playing the guessing game with the events listing software that really confounds me. -

I've tried that and included the screenshot. I'm not holding out any hopes. -
Events listings fail

Just tried again using Edge instead of Firefox and it failed. There does not appear to be an option to raise a ticket about events listing issues. -

I tried but the ticketing system does not appear to have any options as regards events listings. -

Still broken. My attempt at creating an event listing right now failed again. -
Events listings fail

And it's still failing. -
I need an NPC of an elderly person [man or woman] in a rocking chair that shakes their fist and shouts "Get offa mah lawn!" at passing avatars.

Posting Event error.
Alazarin Mondrian replied to Sorina Garrigus's topic in General Discussion Forum
me too :( -
I have attempted several times today to create an events listing and it failed every time with a red panel saying 'This service is not currently available'. Has that happened to anyone else recently? When will the events listing start functioning again?

Why do I choose Second Life over Meta?
Alazarin Mondrian replied to Heathcliff Harbrough's topic in General Discussion Forum
Meta hasn't got a leg to stand on. -
A friend got me interested in using / abusing Chat GPT. So I signed up, got a bunch of API keys, whacked them into Pantera Północy's Chat GPT script and dropped them into some static NPCs set up on my land. At first nothing much would happen. I'd say something in text chat and there wouldn't be much of a response. After half an hour it had turned into a flood of high-speed conversation between the Chat GPT-enabled NPCs which would rapidly degenerate into random bits of code or text that had been fed into the Chat GPT machine at some point. All I'd have to do would be to say or ask anything in text chat, and they'd be off like horses at the races until they ran out of steam and/or coherence.

Maybe this is old news but I recall that all the talk a while back was about the Bonniebots and similar ilk swarming the grid and how everyone was busily banning them and making a whack-a-mole sport of it. While there was some discussion as to what these bots are used for, one fact was seldom discussed: The capped size of the land ban list [300 avatars max]. I bring this up because as a small landholder on the mainland whose land parcel straddles the 128,128 midpoint of the sim, our parcel gets regular visits from all manner of bots and our ban list is expanding at a rate of knots. At the rate it's growing, it will have reached its maximum size by mid-summer at which point I'll be unable to hold back the flood of bots. I suspect that was their plan all along: to flood the grid with throwaway account bots until everyone's ban lists were full giving them free rein to field their bots wherever and whenever they want. The only question that remains being how many of those bots are fielded by data-scrapers and how many are fielded by security-orb sellers eager to generate more business? Raising the ban list cap to 500 avatars only puts off the saturation point by a small amount of time but does Linden Lab have the resources to implement unlimited size ban lists?

In the necropost to beat 'em all 😉 Give it another 2 weeks and this thread will be 10 years old so we must be somewhere in purgatory by now.

Something has happened since the last region restarts: 1] My friends list is empty 2] Teleports take so long I wonder if they're about to fail. 3] Rezzing objects is slow or sometimes even fails. 4] Examining the contents of a rezzed object in the object editor takes ages. 5] The group I was in was deactivated. Has this happened to anyone else?

Do you primarily use a human avatar?
Alazarin Mondrian replied to Gopi Passiflora's topic in General Discussion Forum
No. Next question. -
Pretty much except that I stand while playing keyboards as it makes the switchover time quicker. Getting back to the OP's question: get your setup whatever it is: mic + acoustic guitar, piano, DJ'ing, multi-instrumental, etc., so that it's all working smoothly in your home studio / corner of your living room / attic / basement / shed and that you can hear yourself and what you're doing clearly thru monitors, headphones or whatever works best for you. THEN Split that output so that it goes to your monitors / headphones AND your stream encoding software. Your encoder will need the URL + port + password plus stream type [icecast or shoutcast] and bitrate [ 96kbps to 320kbps AFAIK, SL maxes out at 128kbps] for your audio stream or the venue audio stream. They all have a page where you enter that information so it's not as confusing as it might seem. That's it! A last note: don't rely on WiFi for your stream encoding computer, it'll only end in tears. Ethernet / LAN cabling is the way to go.
