Do fancy nails matter?

I was looking on the MP for a lipstick and I noticed a lot of nail varnish in complicated patterns for sale.  Then I wondered how many people actually look that closely at a woman's hands?  As long as I have the right shade to complement my outfit I'm happy, but perhaps I'm missing something!

Elaborate mani/pedis are a thing in RL and so is “nail porn“. That is photos of elaborate mani/pedis.

I look at people’s hands and nails in SL. Every once in a while I’ll buy a nail set with funky colors.

I don’t think you’re missing something, it just seems like it’s not your thing. It’s just an extra level of detail.

In RL elaborate nail designs are definitely a thing in the manicure industry there are contests are trade shows to see who can come up with the best sculpted designs and they are often featured in the trade mags. in SL there are stores that just cater to nails even specific types of nail. I'm not that much in to fancy nails in RL even less so in SL since they are so small on screen, i wear a nail polish that's part gold glitter and unless you cam in close that detail won't show the dark blue part will stand out more. there's nothing wrong with not being a nail fan

For some, I’m sure not a bit! For me, yes! It’s a RL indulgence (in some fashions it’s part of the package) so I have taken delight in playing with SL manicures since the ‘manicure gloves’ days. Elaborate lengths and tiny intricate attachments? Yes please!

When wrapping your fingers around, say, a candycane or some other delicious treat yes they can indeed be seen.

I'm a lot less concerned about other people looking at my avatar and a lot more concerned about how I feel looking at my avatar. So I can see the nails mattering a LOT. That said... I have yet to find anyone who makes what I've been seeking - super long pointy nails that LACK jewelry on them that would be instead 'claw like'...
- You can bet if I found a Belleza Bento set of those, they would matter to me...

I'd actually want the opposite... plain, simple, natural, not even French Manicure styled nails. Perhaps with some dirt on them. Torn or broken.

I had a few as system layers back in the days, but appliers are apparently rare or insanely overpriced.

The nails with my mesh body are just not long enough. So looking around I found some mesh nails with very long to very short and lots of colors all in one package.

But even though I was looking for longer the longest in the package are just to long, for me, but the next length down are perfect. So now I have what I would call talons and I mostly keep them turquoise, I’ve gotten more comments about my nails than anything else about my avatar.

I don’t notice designs or shorter nails on others and thinking about it, I never cam in to examine anybody. Over the years that has always caused way to much drama.

Having nails isn't a big deal to me. I do love Pink Hustler's shop, Pink Lion, where she makes her custom nails. I love her nails that have mesh attachments, all sorts. I recently bought snowflakes and then a panda set with the cutest pandas. She has a demo box that you can try the different nail shapes she uses.You can only get to her store by using the slurl in her profile, pinkhustler resident. While not that big a deal to have on nails, her store is the only one I love when I do wear them for photos.

Coloured nails are cool. But long false nails, I mean the ones longer than a centimetre from the tip of your finger look stupid and trashy. In real life and Second Life. It is one of few trends of the decade that I really wish would die out asap.

I do wonder how people manage to do anything in RL with nails that long.  Perhaps they have servants.
