  1. I wish today was the day I learned to pan around using some secret key combination and the mouse. I see them do it on YouTube and have asked, but no-one ever answers. Perhaps today will be that day. Pinkies crossed.
  2. For me it will make no difference. I pay in a foreign currency anyway (as the rest of the world does, outside US Dollar land), so fluctuations are a constant. SL will be better off financially for the change, it's one way of subtly increasing their income but keeping monthly subbers happy, for the most part. As others have said, buy larger sums at a time. I don't recall ever buying less than L$5000 at any one time, maybe L$4k once. I tend to keep one alt to buy all my money and that one divvies out to me and the others. So no-one is holding all the time and it slows down my spending. Also keeping low funds prevents click-mistakes where you buy something you didn't mean to by accident.
  3. I learned this the hard way a few years ago. It often comes with going over old landmarks to see what's still around, an old place is now somebody else's and they have a kicker security orb. I take these warnings seriously now and click asap to get out of there, rather than ignoring them as I did before, where I thought I knew better. I don't backup all HUDs, just the ones I'm likely to be wearing all the time or as part of an outfit, such as AOs, knicker-droppers and dribbles It's happened to me twice in the past and the first time I could get most re-delivered, but one I had to dig deep for to find the purchase information for when contacting the seller to request they resend me. When using clothing coloring or styling HUDs I'm commonly doing that in a safe place anyway, but even sandboxes can have an idiot present who launches you away and that has deadened a HUD or two in the past too. It can be a real pain if you've spent hours modifying an AO. That's why I always keep backup folders of anim sets and notecard copies, just in case. Until it happens to you, you tend to think these things don't matter. Don't rely on others for everything, being self-sufficient is a nice way to be.
  4. I'm not taking sides but I was curious so, as requested, I went to this place and took the same (similar) pic with the same (rather unusual) set of settings in the off-chance it may help someone. This was on a ASUS ROG gaming laptop with 1920x1080 CPU : INTEL CORE I7-8750H RAM : 16GB DDR4HDD : 1 TB 5400 RPM + 256 GB SSD M.2 PCI-EDISPLAY : 17.3" FHD AGVGA : GEFORCE GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5OS : WINDOWS 10
  5. I still have stuff to open from last year, but me and my merry band of mates (alts) will all fill their respective booties in the end. Best to leave it a few days to allow those firsty desperadoes get their fill. Having said that, I went there and it was heaving, could barely move, lag central, so all non-friends hidden. Scrolled around and picked-up most as sim-crossing was an impossibility. Just a case of remembering to fill in the gaps upon return. Probably just me but I wish it was called SLB15, as opposed to SL15B. Flows better off my tongue
  6. I realize it's not a competition, but I'm banned from 700 sims for asking not to be spammed. My friends call me Candy. I'm sure other people are called that too.
  7. Short people, or what I prefer to call them (and myself) 'normal sized' people. I'm not referring to Toddledoos (?) or obvious children or youngsters, I'm referring to adults who choose to register as normal/average human height on the SL scale, but are dwarfed by many and routinely ejected for being under some arbitrary height ruling or restriction. Shorties rule! .. Yay!
  8. As it happens I just bought myself a new gaming laptop this week and picked it up last Monday. I live in Thailand and my electricity is not always guaranteed 100% as we get power outs sometimes during heavy storms, which is why I wanted a laptop with its battery backup. Everybody has slightly different needs. I spent hours Googling on YouTube watching and reading reviews for a long, long time before I let go of my money, but had a rough idea of what I wanted to buy and how much all along. I ended up buying more than I first thought because I didn't want it to be obsolete prematurely. Also, just a little more money here or there can make such a big difference. To my knowledge nobody does reviews of 2ndLife on graphics cards, but you get a good idea from their reviews using other graphic hungry games. You have to think how much pleasure you get from your computer and what value spending a little extra can bring. I really enjoy both my laptop and second life, so it was worth it for me to wait and get the best I could. For interest's sake, this is the one I bought: https://www.jib.co.th/web/index.php/product/readProduct/29684/1341/NOTEBOOK--โน้ตบุ๊ค--ASUS-ROG-GL703GM-EE172T ASUS ROG Strix Scar Edition GL703GM 17.3", 16GB RAM, GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD. I connect it to a 32" Samsung 1080p TV for an extra screen which sits alongside. I can play at Ultra level all the time, but I don't as sometimes the fan gets noisy if lots of avatars around. I tried 2 concurrent sessions on Ultra and it was fine too, but the fans get noisy and the temps rise, but I was just testing to see. I'm really happy with it, which is why I couldn't help talking about it. I am not rich and Thailand is not a rich country. I saved patiently for a long, long time to buy it. It was worth the wait Moral of this story is: Patience brings its own reward.
  9. Need more detail of the specification of your intended PC, especially the GPU, but I would wait and think more before buying a Intel i3 as that is the bottom end of processors right now. You need to think about something that will last for several years if you decide to buy a new one, or at least has an upgrade path without a complete overhaul.
  10. I've had numerous times when saving a snapshot to the feed 'Your snapshot is being processed', or words to that effect show up in my inworld SL feed. Sometimes the snapshot makes it to the feed, sometimes it does not. What is always the case is that these notifications can simply be closed by pressing the 'x'. There will be no subsequent message to say otherwise and they will not disappear on their own, or be updated. The snapshot will either be there or it won't. I've had them take what seemed like an hour to show on my feed before. I'd already given up and/or repeated the snapshot again and again. Checked later to discover multiple snapshots had made it, eventually. Just delete the notifications. There's nothing to wait for now.
  11. 1. I like the fact SL exists and that I can create a gorgeous 'me'. 2. I wish I won the SL lottery and became a Linden millionaire.
  12. Not sure if this could be classed as a bug, but it's a pretty lucky one. I suppose it had to happen eventually.
  13. To me, this is all the same as our own "How does your avatar look today?" thread. Anything other than genuine inworld-only photography, untouched by external programs or software, is simply cheating. Or, in the case of this thread, mis-representation of the product. Mind you, some store's have magnificent images advertising their products, but these will never be achieved within SL for anybody. Boils down to common sense and realistic expectations.
  14. If SL still can't work very well on a dog's doodads gaming computer with all the frills and a supersonic internet connection, the possibility of playing on a phone app hardly inspires hope. An app to do IM's and a few basics would probably be ok for a few users, but to me that'd be pointless as I don't have any friends and don't care if I can't see myself.
  15. Yes, it does look like an AK HUD. I recently got the free group AK Maia mesh head, which is lovely. However, the HUD positioning and page switching is awful. Such a shame as the head is lovely. I can certainly understand the desire to move it. I did. What a pain. Each page has to be moved seemingly independently of each other and the 'move' arrows are wa-a-ay off screen.
  16. You wouldn't be the only one.
  17. Besides the obvious "hi".. followed by total silence, or the "how are you" type IM's. What irritates me most is when someone, always a male ava, asks me to justify preferences within my profile because they don't fit. I don't reply.
  18. It must have been great to have been a teenager+ during the 80's I adore music like this from this era, everybody seemed so happy .. p.s. The man in the white cap (Frankie Beverly?) is so very handsome
  19. At any given moment I could count the friends on my friends' list on the fingers of one hand while still giving a vacant thumb's up. I have no idea of their names until I see them when I look at the list. I like the fact SL is brimming with many, many friendly people, but I like my own interuppted space and company until I am ready for a chat. That chat will likely be with someone completely new. Occasionally that person will offer friendship and if I'm stood in front of them I will likely 'Accept'. If they're male with sexual expectations, once I have left I will unflag my online status. I'll flick off the hitchhikers once in a while but in general they're doing no harm.
  20. I'm afraid I find the positive reasons offered for charging for a demo pretty lame, but each to their own. As is commonly the case if someone wants an excuse for something they'll find one, or convince themselves somehow. I will not pay for a demo, (2nd) life is as simple as that. I never buy anything without demo'ing first so I just don't buy from stores which do it. They won't miss my custom, I don't miss their items. The world still revolves. As far as marketplace goes L$1 demos are a nuisance. Just one more of numerous nuisances in existence on that website. Shame we can't blacklist stores so they never appear in our search results.
  21. Thank you for the responses and happy to hear I am not alone in this potential absurdity. I guess the only way to know for sure would be to post a picture and find out, but I am hesitant to do so, which is why I asked. I sometimes like to be gender fluid as that is one of the appeals within Second Life. So when in 'boi' mode (the chest is advertised as a 'Boi (flat) Chest') and representing a male who has chosen to wear makeup and perhaps longer hair (but not always longer hair), would it be assumed that I am showing female nipples? I see many, many males shirtless around SL sporting hair longer than mine even when I'm clearly representing female. Perhaps they are choosing to relax their gender too. I do understand that in some instances there can be a fine line between which sex someone is assumed to be, or which sex they may be representing, if any. Which is the choice, preference, or leaning of that individual. It would be a shame if this forum was transphobic for the sake of flat-chested nipples.
  22. If I wear my Maiteya body with V-Tech chest, can I post topless images of myself in the "How does your avatar look today?" thread, or anywhere else in this forum? I've seen flat-chested topless men and male nipples posted before.
  23. Still amazes me that arms go inside bodies, feet crash through each other and crossed legs look impossibly awkward. Never mind broken ankles. Maybe the person in the blob-suit with all the wires on should wear a Michelin man outfit to allow air between body parts. Even for skinnies it's an issue. I've found myself using more pr3 poses setup in the Firestorm AO these days. Then hands, Vista arms, Catwa head/neck/face animations make for a gentle and less flamboyant existence. Body Language are good, I like them. Best to wait for half price sales as they're not cheap.
  24. From a buyers perspective, the ability to blacklist certain stores so their offerings never show up in search results. Now THAT would be wonderful. Marketplace isn't all about sellers.
