If I remember it correctly, teen sims back in 2007 were off limit to everyone except for the teen members.

As they are today.  The are specific regions that one has to register to enter and then, you can't go anywhere else but there.

Here is the post from last summer.  The creators of the camp explain how it works.

To be fair, if you search “Second Life” on Twitter, and view the Photos tab, that’s nearly all you will see… Big b***ies everywhere, horse c***, and lots of beast and furry sex stuff. I bet that when someone who doesn’t know what SL is, hears about it, and looks it up on Twitter, they’d think it’s one of those porn games that pop up in all the ads on porn sites. I do a lot of naughty stuff on SL too but I agree that perhaps it’s not a good look for SL when 99% of what’s shared on Twitter about it is mostly virtual ***** porn and other kinds of smut.

Y’all should start tweeting about SL and drown out some of those horse c*** posts so people can see more of what else is possible on here.

I’m by no means a prude. I dig seeing the naughty stuff too but it’s a problem when it’s 99% of what is visible out there. From a Twitter user’s perspective, SL is not a metaverse, it’s an animated porn game. Not a good look, so… join twitter, tweet about SL, drown out all the smut. It’s up to US to show that it’s more than just THAT.

The problem with SL compared to other concepts of the Metaverse is too much sexual content/nudity too often, which is fine with me and i do have a laugh with it but not everyone sees it that way.

Try to broadcast to Twitch if you feel lucky.  *List of Prohibited Games

One other reason: Half of the metaverse hype is crypto-bros hyping up whatever get-rich-quick ponzi scheme they recently came across. They aren't interested in creative, community driven things. They want to become rich.

If more people would understand that Second Life, roblox and VR chat are our current "metaverses" and that we do not have the technology currently to make anything thats turning out to be different than some variation of that... then we wouldn't even have that senseless buzz around the metaverse.

The context being .. Decentraland had an event, and everyone laughed at saying it was like SL, the tone was heavily past tense.

Like SL was a thing that's long dead.

There was almost no posts from current or active SL users saying "hey, we're still here".

For sure a lot of hypes now are from crypto-rich companies and people who got into it early on, a thousand dollars of ETH today costed them a few pennies back then. But I would not call blockchain based metaverses a ponzi scheme. Majority NFT tradings on Opensea are those get-rich-quick ponzi, they are small groups of people who truly appreciate the artistry.

Digital contents creators have been asking for copyright protection since day one of digital era, it couldn't be enforced automatically until NFT came along. With these blockchain based metaverses, pirated contents can be deleted automatically. The biggest issue now is the environment impact from minting all these tokens. Some metaverses have switched over to a side chain network which uses very little energy.

I think LL should definitely consider get on the blockchain, not for the hype (while it does drive traffics to SL) but for the sake of copyright protection.

On Reddit's r/metaverse, Second Life has been mentioned a lot. Mostly because when someone talks about the metaverse doing something someday, someone posts an example of SL doing it right now. Owning land, building, rares, etc.

Someone posted this on Reddit today, in r/metaverse.

I didn't see any of that when I searched Second Life on Twitter.  It was all pretty PG unless I need to turn off some filter.  I never use it and only made an account to see what a few stores/bloggers post.

If the dreamed Metaverse does not have plenty more usability than SL, a lot less steep learning curve than SL, it will not succeed.

From SL there is a lot to learn for the developers of the perhaps upcoming Metaverse.
Especially from what went wrong and all its flaws and also all its successes and limitations. But IMHO the dreamed  Metaverse will not be a bigger or somewhat enhanced SL.

One or even better more companies will have to develop something from scratch, with new visions, new concepts, other and more diversified usability. Taking the full advantage of modern popular hardware like tablets, notebooks and cellphones and maybe VR goggles (although I personally think that the VR goggles are almost dead in the water already).

I don't see the Metaverse as something that needs to be created as it already is. An analogy is our universe in real life, the metaverse itself is the virtualized extension of it. So it's not something you can point at and say oh here it is or that company is inventing it as it already exists. It is that virtual space that is between each world /platform /game. Each one of those has its location in the metaverse defined by its IP address. The metaverse itself will become increasingly tangible as platforms develop the ability to travel between them like Opensim grid residents have the capability of traveling between them complete with their avatar and clothing from their home grid.

At one time even Second wife had a gateway to be able to travel to Opensim that really was an introduction to the Metaverse. In some respects even after that gateway was closed, Second Life still retains the idea of the metaverse as teleporting between each individual region is somewhat akin to traveling within the context of a solar system whereas the traveling to Opensim was going further and allowing travel through a galaxy.

How each world/platform/game connects to it and with what tools will be up to each one of them individually. The tools themselves do not define or limit what is considered the Metaverse as the metaverse itself is the space between those worlds. Whether a platform or game uses text, voice, neuralinks or whatever is secondary to the ability for residents to travel to other worlds /games without having to log out and log back in at the new location.

That's how I see it anyway.

That top video looks like a SL furry rave:

I don't normally watch but this one I watched all the way through.

Wow. Just... wow.

Whoever did this vid should be doing them for SL/LL. This is the kind of thing that will sell SL. Maybe add a few humans and other types to give a taste of the endless variety.

This was really well done. Bravo!

Lots of the hype comes from people, who are religiously obsessed with crypto, NFT and metaverse and companies who want the hype to squeeze money out of the hyped people. Not actually sucessful by definition. All I have seen so far, who talk about metaverse in combination with blockchain technology have been scams, ponzi schemes or at least very much in favor of "dressing up reality".

NFTs are not an artists friend and they do not solve copyright issues at all. The problem was never identifing who had the copyright, but to actually enforce it. Especially with entities in foreign countries and if it just happens a lot. NFTs do not grant a magical button to delete your stolen picture from... lets say a chinese aliexpress shop printing it on t-shirts.

The hype around NFTs has actually increased art theft, because people are taking artists works without their consent to use as NFTs. Other NFTs are usually artifically created images, that don't have any artistic value to them and are simply tokens to gamble on the hope that a "bigger idiot" will come and buy it from you for even more than what you paid. Also owning an NFT does not give you any rights in the realm of copyright law. You are still not allowed to use the image in the way its true owner could.

When was the last time you tried?

You are both right, kinda

You can create a twitter account without a phone number, I did it and it works.

A few hours after I created my account the twitter bullying engine suspended my account and sent me a mail saying

"We’re writing to let you know that your account has been flagged for unusual behavior that violates the Twitter Rules, and has been locked until you take the following steps:

  1. Log into your account, or open your Twitter app on iOS or Android.
  2. You’ll see a message about your account, and a prompt to click “Start.”
  3. Select your country/region, and then enter your phone number. "

At this point I contacted support to ask them what I had done wrong since the only thing I had time to do was follow a startrek account  and bernie Sander's without posting any message

The first answer i got was an automatic answer again explaining me it was easy i JUST HAD TO ENTER MY PHONE

I insisted explaining that i had no phone and again done nothing wrong and they unlocked my account

"Hello,

We’re writing to let you know that your account is now unlocked. We’re sorry for the inconvenience.

A little background: We have systems that find and remove automated spam Twitter accounts, and it looks like yours was flagged as spam by mistake. This can happen if an account exhibits automated behavior in violation of our rules."

And the next day I got the exact same mail saying my account had been flagged for unusual behavior

I am stubborn and went through the same process to get it unlocked and the day after that they suspended it again

Basically they WANT your phone number and they will bully you until you give it to them

So I gave up trying to get a twitter account

Keep contacting support. I did this multiple times on different accounts and it worked every single time. Just tell them your account was blocked without you doing anything wrong and you have no phone to unlock it. You will also get an automated response to that request. Answer it by stating again you have no phone.
