With a sufficient group of Software Engineers I am confident Some sort of solution can be made, perhaps not to the detail that I have listed but insomuch that we could at most allow the Viewer a Filter option rather than force the users to select these sort of setting son upload.

While on the topic of A, M, and G since joining back this year I find it a disapointment that M is considered Nudity allowed (Though in the past it always had ment this) there is no Middle ground from M to G, id almost say you need another rating PG that allows cursing in public chat (That could be filter!) and NO Nudity whatsoever. Then perhaps in M you allow nudity but only behind Close Wall or in parcels-regions that permit nudity.

I just feel the Adult aspect of the game is what turns of the majority of new players, they feel SecondLife is a Sex game when its much more than that.

Without proper regulation on other issue in game such as the Child Models which should be regulated similar to Gambling I do not think we will see people adopt the game as a leading Metaverse even if it clearly is.

On upload you should be able to mark the object itself as A, M, G (As in its ORGININAL upload state what might it be considered, as further modification in game could change the rating and may be a manual option to change this setting...) This way you also prevent models from rendering when entering-exiting A, M, G regions. (For example if a model is Nude the model would be market M or A, when the model walks into a G region it would be invisible. Also all viewers on the other side of the Sim from G to M would also be unable to render out the M content. Though such a system would force developers to come up with auto fallbacks.... Perhaps allow models to be uploaded in sets of 3; an A rating for the model LODs, an M Rating for another set of model LODs, and a G rating for the final model LODs. And hopes the migrations to the cloud can afford these type of changes >.<

How do you define "nude" when an avatar can be anything, including an animal? I'm reminded of the scene in the movie Zootopia where the main characters were shocked by the "nudist animals" which, of course, looked basically like animals in the real world.

Perhaps the subjectivity could be an optional parameter if LL back-end is able to handle the processing and categorizing of the some billion models there may be in the game. Or perhaps such a system couldn't be made internal-backended and would require some sort of client side processing or even introduce ledger based work to have the community help fund the process of categorizing objects.

Edit: If companies like Facebook were/are able to detect 2Images revenge porn circumventing their platform starting back in 2019 I feel SL can do something to aleast find SUPER illegal stuff in their platform disregarding the A,M,G stuff if we are mostly concerned with the illegal items in game that should be our first solution to solve...

True, however as I have said, when people type in "Second Life Reviews" when they are thinking of playing second life and want to find out about it, they dont have to look for it as it is there in plain sight in negative user reviews.

To be fair, when I look at reviews of SL, I mostly see "I don't know what to do.", "I don't know where to go.", "Stuff costs too much money in this game.", "It's too hard making an avatar/outfit.", "The viewer layout is hard to figure out." even "Someone crashed my viewer!" or "I can't go anywhere without finding griefers/trolls." than I do "There's too much fringe/kinky sex/pervs in this game!". 😆

This is technological solutionism: trying to use code to solve a problem that really doesn't exist.

Code can be used to create tools that facilitate moderation, but the human experience, especially in a virtual context, is far too varied, nuanced, and complex to regulate through code itself.

This is the kind of thinking that leads to decisions like legless avatars, a "solution" that the disables a huge variety of entirely innocent activities and representations, while simultaneously utterly failing to achieve its end, the "desexualization" of the virtual.

At one time, one of the "hottest" platform on the internet for sexting was the Facebook game, Scrabulous. If you can turn a Scrabble game into a sex romp, you can most certainly have sex without legs.

You're thinking small, Molly.

The Romans used to send criminals to the salt mines.

I propose that virtual criminals be made to surrender their CPUs for set periods of time to mine cryptocurrency for the community.

We already have all the tools we need. Provided by LL. People need to learn how to use those tools properly. There are no excuses as there are classes held for such things all over the grid daily.

This strikes me as applicable to extroverts accustomed to regarding themselves at length in mirrors.

Some of us with different Jungian predispositions find the prospect of an avatar that watches and mimics our RL expressions to be terrifying.

Yeah. I've said from the early days of High Fidelity, when this was a primary focus of that platform, that the development of this "capability" isn't merely a huge waste of resources, but also something that is actually likely to turn off some users.

When Inara blogged about this being prioritized by LL for SL, I commented as well that it can be seen as a way of privileging voice, something else that is going to drive some people away.

Just about the only real benefit I can see is that it might force them to produce more "bones" for the SL avi skeleton's face: most "smiles" and "grins" on current SL avatars tend to look like the early onset of rigor mortis.

But... you can't teeter totter without legs.

Whoops. I typed tooter instead of totter at first.

Not L$, USD.

Force them to assign RL ID and payment methods to their accounts.

Some will say that is harsh, but we're talking about ToS violators...

I'm honestly surprised LL has not already enacted itemized fees for various ToS violations yet, at least today when they're looking for more ways to capitalize on the "user experience".

Authorize payments as penalties directly from a Paypal account or, worse still, a bank account?

I have NEVER received in-world suspension, and even I'd balk at that.

Yeah, I'm only half-serious, mainly due to the legal aspects, not on alternative/additional disciplinary action.

LL needs to find a way to bring in new users from the younger generations.

I just had a look on the Radar @UBER right now and only 4 accounts were less than 5 years... then i turned on the music stream and some old songs were being played from Dj's who probably were close to their 60's.

That's cool with me (for a while) cause i am in my 40's but doesn't make it a luring experience for young folks.

Second Life is still a thing thanks to most of us who joined 5-10+ years ago but talking about the future of Metaverse and Second Life in it... idk.

That's pretty much it.

The only people who complain about the adult content are in SL and don't (openly 🤫) participate, seeming to blame the shortfalls in their SL experience on it's very existence.

It's a weird position to argue from, as though there's a hard cap on the amount of fun things people can do in SL and adult content is taking away precious space.

They seem to think that by banning all adult content, everyone involved would suddenly switch to doing other things, lots of other people would immediately join and their personal SL would improve. When really the opposite is far more likely.

We absolutely do, we need to attract and keep new users, whatever their age.

Yes. From hanging around new user areas, the two main problems are "what do I do now", and "how do I fix this %$#@ clothing problem?" The single most useful piece of info I've given to new users is how to use the "Save As" button in the T-shirt menu to save an outfit, so they can then go back to a safe outfit after a clothing malfunction. For new users, the starter outfit ought to be auto-saved at start, so they can always go back without having to discover how to do a full avatar switch.

Biggest single challenge for LL: make a new user's first hour fun.

The thing is: There are plenty of younger people on SL. By younger I mean 18-19, because the IMVU-SL pipeline is very much a thing and still going. They have businesses and their own hangouts and their own places they shop and everything. What makes it even more amazing is LL really doesn't advertise to them, they just sort of find their way here through word of mouth.

I think you pointed out why you don't see them too. Those kind of events, like Uber you wouldn't really see them there because their style is different. They use different hair, skins and clothing designers. There are other events that aren't on Seraphim that they go to....in large numbers. I tried to point this out in one of those body survey threads, depending on where you go, you will see totally different things on the grid.

Data is worth money, so if LL is willing to work with that id worry less on how much money new players bring in and focus more on the fact that they are here and generating data.

I am not sure what data LL collect and IF they sell or monetize on it, id prefer a Play to Pay model were you can generate data and Cash it out as a Token (IE claim your data and then Choose to sell it if desired) of some sort of a DLT; but that's probably not a project for SL to take on and will be seen in other platforms over the coming years.

Money is changing and I suspect in a way that will greatly benefit Metaverse platforms.

Linden did try that in the early days, sending transgressors to the Cornfield

the problem with this was that it became for some, a source of pride to be corned.  And some turned getting corned into a cause celebre. Like one person whose name starts with Jump, broadcast live from the Cornfield about the awesome of it

fines on the other hand are boring news, like nobody much cares that we got fined L$301, our weekly stipend + L$1, for having a zero-time orb on our Belli parcel. And nobody much cares that we got fined L$301 for tagging our marketplace product as shoes when it is a top

New users don't begin by sinking tons of USD into a "free" to play platform. 🤫

Certainly but we are in the age of scammy DLC.
Just for for an example....
Imagine Scrabble 2022!
You get the game for free but you only get the letters A and Z 8-/
The other 22 are Downloadable Content costing $25 each - lol. 😹
