Should "Boystown" be in a G-rated region? See policy on "advertises or publicly promotes" adult activity.

Hmmm

And the crackdown on what "communities" noobs are allowed to know about begins.

Gotta love those "I told you so" moments huh?

I got a chance to read the blog and go have a look. It's okay. I remember in 2009 when I joined I was instructed to choose a destination to land in which was the Faery Crossing. They helped me learn everything I needed to know to find my way. I'm still part of that community and in the past when my health permitted volunteered to help new comers for many years on my old account. I feel this was such a great experience that made me want to come back to Second Life. To keep learning.

I feel this is okay. I'm not sure it is enough to attract and retain new users to want to come back and figure out what Second Life can be for them. I  really do hope that it can be a beneficial tool for new comers to Second Life.

Do we laud our Exhibitionists for their efforts thus far?

I haven't seen anything inappropriate at all, let alone anything worthy of a blue ribbon.

Ohhh, duh, you mean the Exhibit. Duh. Sorry.

To be fair, there's no requirement in the majority of Steampunk regions to wear Steampunk or Victorian clothing, certainly not in Caledon, just be decently dressed.  You should try visiting one of them sometime, even if it spoils the cadence of your snipe. :)

It'll be interesting to see what ends up filling all the other spots that are currently unused.

I had a read of the sign-up form (and signed up myself) - But I note that the form asks for a group/landmark - Which seems a bit square peg round hole for community, given a lot of communities are not really one sim but a whole sub-culture that can be found in SecondLife. They also say you can only link to one location. So for example I wanted to do an 'anime in secondlife' exhibit with a friend but there isn't really a central location or group we're all in, lots of small groups that overlap yes but no big one.

I kinda have to agree with Garnet here... I've never gotten anything but nice-people, welcoming vibes in any *-punk fandom region; if anything, they want more people to visit and explore. Not always a lot of people around, but then a lot of them have day jobs.

A lot of SL is a lot more welcoming than we tend to give it credit for on the forums. I've complained about places that don't welcome me plenty, but there are so many more that do.

Ironically the RL Boystown if it was portrayed in here as it is in RL would be suitable for a G rating.

The fact that it sits on adult land suggests the RL Boystown should get a cease and desist order against whoever is running it in SL

I took a closer look at the boystown sign, it in no way shape or form claims to represent the RL Boystown.

But like Animats said, should an obvioudly adult location be allowed to advertise on a G sim?

I guess this is the embrasing the adult side of Second Life that LL was talking about.

Maybe Escort Oasis should open a booth.

😂

I think this is a groovy idea. And cooler than just some generic welcome area thing, or themed event, too.

SL is a community of communities, after all, and not just some hodgepodge of stuff all in one place, or categorised by theme; each place not only has cross-traffic from other communities, but also tends to have its own unique core culture, and there's literally room for anyone and their interests.

Making people aware of this is important, and it's healthy for new people to see just how diverse this platform can be, and to see that not only is there a place for them amongst others of a like mind, but that there's room to manifest their own unique vision, as well, because every place and group in SL started the same way. Someone had an idea, and they made it happen.

Seeing examples of what SL really is, and giving some representation to the very real communities within it, well, I think that's great.

Is there an exhibition area for Innsmouth? That region is pretty cool and should be promoted.

You know how cops are free to go over the speed limit? Maybe LL is free to break their own rules? If so, then I think nudists, escorts, and Gorean sims deserve to be represented too.

Alternatively, maybe there is an LGBTQ+ sim that's not rated Adult?

I would certainly hope so!

(This type of discussion usually brings out the ignorant who say, "but LGBTQ+ is all about sex". lol)

Boystown Chicago changed its name to Northalsted. Not to be confused with the orphanage that has been around much longer.

Every single strawberry linden labgab is ruined by her dryness. Dear god, it's bad. The worst interviewer i've ever seen. If you ever go watch the interviews with Phillip Linden.

Sometimes I assume the interviewers sound awkward / bad because they may be trying to be "someone other than themselves" - i.e. "more serious", etc. for the interview.

Or, they are just awkward-sounding and don't come across "well" on an interview.

But in person, maybe they would seem less annoying!

This sort of thing always makes me think somebody is pandering.

Be interesting to see if they rotate things out and see which communities they wind up highlighting over time.

I would hope so, if this is a "permanent" part of the WelcomeHub.

Adding this "Community Exhibition" seems like a "smart move" since without it, I'd think something is missing from the whole "this is Second Life" aspect of the WelcomeHub.
