There's just been a lot of personal stuff going on in my life recently, and also with the state of the world lately..so I find myself logging in to SL more than usual-spending time decorating my sim, taking pics for Flickr(mostly soothing tropical themes)shopping and exploring beautiful sims others have created.Anyone else doing this too?

Is it because we can control who we interact with? What we spend our time doing? My husband used to almost make fun of me when I roleplayed and spent time in SL when we first started in 09, but now even he is spending more time here lately.

Well, I think some participate in SL to escape RL, and others participate in SL to enhance RL.

But then, if escaping RL via participating in SL is enhancing RL....

It's all good.  :)

I spend less time i sl than I have since I started. I spend more time on the forums-but mostly just reading things. The more time I spend in sl the less I like it and lots of the people in it. But I'm pretty sure that's just a me issue. I've looked for similar places to sl but most don't come close enough and any that do end up being the same as sl.

I should get a dog or something.

The amount of time I spend in SL goes up and down. There are periods that I'm several hours a day in our wonderful world, but there are other periods that I log in for only minutes at a time and sometimes even less or not at all.

It all depends on my mood, what RL expects from me and how much inspiration I have to do something inworld.

Yes, I can agree. I don't really see it as an escape from RL because I don't see SL as completely separate from my real life. However, SL has helped me in difficult times. In RL, I was too exhausted to write but I did managed to furnish my land in SL. All that fiddling on devi square millimetres, plants a few millimetres to the left or right, colouring it up a bit so it blends in better with the rest....It also had a calming effect for me, a kind of zen. But above all, in those moments I am really happy for a while. The same goes for taking and editing photos for Flickr. That's how I got things done over the past six months anyway, and gradually I was able to pick things up in RL as well, and have since started writing a novel again.

Exactly how I feel, tweaking my sim or getting that Flicker pic IS kind of zen. Well said!

It's really depending for me, on RL. I have a happy busy RL, nice job, 3 kids, happy marriage, parents in-law live nearby so we often cook together or spend time in the garden with them and the kids, so of course in summer I am busier ... Like the bees haha

But sometimes I sneak away from RL to have my zen picture edit moment or pushing pixels around our parcel in SL. Sometimes I go to in world concerts by a certain japanese pianist with my husband XD but else? Not socializing much at all in SL, mostly with RL friends and family. I once spent more time online than I wanted because I felt sorry for being such a bad friend to my SL friends w w ...so I deleted everyone who's not in my RL. No regrets XD

I usually spent not too much time in SL maybe 2 active hours, but am online longer often because I am a squirrel that gets distracted so easily by shiny RL that she walks off and forgets to log out until the next morning...when packing stuff for work at 4 am XD

Totally get it, most of my SL time is solitary..

Same with me. The social part of my SL is mainly on the forums the last decade.
The initial friends list emptied itself during the first 10 years (people left SL one by one) and I somehow never bothered to fill it again.

I'm having an 'interact less', 'make more' time right now.  RL is especially horrific during the grass pollen season here, so I spend time in SL.  One of the great things about foliage in SL - no pollen.

Ugh I feel you. It's Rudolph the red eyed and red nosed reindeer time as my one kid would call it haha it's horrible x3

comes and goes.. SL has the honour of being that one "game" I keep returning to. Most others I play get dumped for good when I tire of them.

recently on a bit more as Asia is in the grips of an epic heatwave and no way I am going out into the real world at 36 deg C

I am not often inworld anymore. My friendlist is empty. Old friends left sl and somehow I never  bothered to find new friends
When I am online I sail or fly, make some photos and after half an hour I log.

I still own a jazzclub themed on the 50ties in New York with music to match.
The build is still there but now closed.

Reading this responses I feel lucky. I log in almost every night and go to one of three clubs. Small clubs that has the same people going every night. I have about 8-10 people that I spend most of my time with. I spend time with my partner and building on my homestead.  I've only been here 5 years so maybe that is the difference.

I spend more time inworld actually, mostly scripting but also taking more pics (for the Forums, "just to do it") than I have ever done.

Plus a tiny bit of exploring if the information (from the Forums) is enticing enough. Like the new BelliHub, "Pride at Home", the new "Welcome Hub",  and "SLB20".

Not sure standing around scripting counts, but hey - it's "inworld".

I have gotten into a new SL evening habit in recent months.  If my kids are watching something on TV that I can't stand, I open my kitchen laptop and log in to one of my two favorite blues clubs, listen to the music, dance (on a bar in one club, LOL) and maybe prop a book up against the laptop.  I can still see my kids and talk to them if/when needed so it is win/win for us all.  🥰

I have a "relationship" with SL. I love being in world. I miss it when I can't be in world. My RL/SL balance is unbalanced, because although RL comes first,  I wish I had more SL time. Tuesdays & Wednesdays right now are RL focused, but I still Discord  and do MP & flickr when I get break time. Otherwise I get my RL stuff done then log in, and maybe do 70% solitary and 30% hunting. Basically I hunt for a decent conversations. It can be anywhere. Photo sim, just exploring, or a club, or a RP club. I follow my nose. That has kept me happy for five years. Friends? Yes but apart from a core group I first met here on the forums, most friends are casual and busy, or hardly in world. I don't mind. Casual occasional interaction works for me. Finally, the weather affects my available time.  Too hot/cold or wet means more in world time. I'm always gone by 12noon SLT at the absolute latest  because that's 8pm here and family meal time. But I can spend hours in world and never get tired of it.

SL is for spending time with my partner and working on my store these days. Aside from shopping at events on the weekends, I don't do anything else or really socialise much. I am lucky that my partner enjoys playing other games with me, so we are not needing to just spend time in SL because I like to do other things. I have gone through stages of spending a lot more time in world though, during lockdown I spent a ton of time in SL and socialised heaps with all different types of people.
