Why is it that the Bellissaria rules cant apply to other mainland?

Simple question. What keeps LL from applying the same rules Bellissaria got on on the rest of mainland? Means no banlines and security orbs giving you time to react and just push you out instead of sending you home? Those rules make totally sense and still offer privacy.

Simple answer: Enforcement costs $$$.

Also, there's no specific reason for them to suddenly add new rules.

Beli is residential, so the beli covenant makes sense for that purpose. Mainland isn't neccessarily, so you'd need different sets of rules for different useage types.

What you're asking suggests that you want LL to change the way it has handled the mainland for decades, in order to prevent you from suffering a similar inconvenience.  I'm sure it is important to you, but you do need to consider what other people want and need.

On a side point as a vehicular mainlander I like the chaotic fun (point to Solar)

In general - Because. Specifically if I wanted belli I would have moved there. Options are all. Plus.. hmm they would lose money as why would our little group bother to be premium

Because the rules make no sense at all to people who want nothing to do with Bellissaria and it's damned covenant.  Seriously, we don't donate our tier to the Lab.  We entered into an fiduciary agreement with them and part of that agreement is that we can have banlines and orbs.  Now the Lab may choose to change that agreement, but it would do so at the cost of landowners and they don't want to do that.

Bellissarians need to stop trying to make rules for the rest of us to live by.

No. Leave Mainland alone. Mainland is meant for those who want to utilize their unfettered imaginations to make their SL any way they wish without restrictions.  If it means they have every right to put up poorly textured builds and ban lines, so be it.

Bellissaria and private estates are plenty enough for those who want parcels in move-in condition and HOA style covenants.

It's too late to change it, that's why.

But the Lab would be more profitable today if they'd done this from the very start, only introducing the functions used by orbs without restrictions on Estate regions. The Estates would be larger and more profitable now as home to all the people so attached to strict parcel security, and the Mainland too would be larger and more profitable, although obviously Bellisseria's wild success is in some part a result of pent-up demand for the kind of freedom-from-orbs that could have benefited Mainland-proper.

That said, whether on Estates, Mainland, or both, llTeleportAgentHome() should only ever have been usable inside a touch_*() handler or within an attachment warn by the agent being teleported. The function does have utility for manually managing event security but autonomous security scripts always should have been restricted to a feature-complete llEjectFromLand(). It's just dumb that immersion is more protected from being shown a Map than from being transported clear across the grid.

That's how it is, yes, but it doesn't actually make any sense whatsoever. Logically it should have been the other way round. There should have been free standing sims for those who wanted to go wild with their builds without having to worry about annoying their neighbours and continents for people who wanted to work together to build something that was bigger than the sum of the parts. But as Qie said, it's too late to change that now.

Btw, since you mention HOA. It seems to me that a lot of people in SL believe there are only two options, total anarchy or HOA style tyranny, nothing in between. With the risk of committing blatant stereotyping, is this kind of extremism an American thing? It seems so alien to me as a European.

Because if they did that driving on the Mainland would become impossible because the roads would be so full of WAAAAmbulances.

This has been discussed before. There have been a few proposals.

  • Apply the Bellessaria rules on orbs and skyboxes to a few urban parts of mainland. Bay City, and maybe Kama City (the part of Zindra that has traffic lights). Those areas already have some special restrictions.
  • Prohibiting skyboxes below 1000m would be a good move. Low-altitude skyboxes can blight sims for hundreds of meters around. Have an enforcement bot that, if it finds the same object two weeks in a row at a prohibited altitude, sends warning messages. At four weeks, it returns the objects.

People who like mainland live on mainland.
People who are not particularly fond of it  don't. They have Bellisseria and all kinds of private land to lease from.
Why change that?
There is room for all in SL.

No there isn't, at least not when we're talking about virtual homes. There's no room for me there and I know I speak for several others who still cling on for the lack of a better alternative and even more who have given up and left.

There are some private estates, like Fair Chang,  Second Norway and Fruit Islands that offer a god balance between freedom and consistency and of course Bay City is still holding out quite well. But these places are still quite small and the private estates are rather cramped since no estate owner can afford to assign much land as public space or buffer zones between the rentals.

A HOA is an organization of property owners in a particular area that collectively agree on a set of rules to govern how their neighborhood is lived in and maintained with basic ideas of keeping property values high. This is mainly achieved by restricting actions from residents making eyesores such as leaving broken-down cars in yards and letting overgrown grass surpass the height limit. HOA common rules are put in place to ensure the residences and common spaces conform to the neighborhood's "theme".

HOAs are usually run by committee, usually by a board comprised of member homeowners who are often selected by popular vote. There are some HOAs that are more laid-back and don't care about the color of your roses as long as you don't do anything dangerous. At the other end of extreme there are power tripping wankers who won't stop at nothing to make their neighbors' lives miserable, and the nightmarish tales you hear about these crazier types usually ends up reaching national news.

Living in Bellisseria or a private estate comes with some communal obligations residents must abide by. I think the security orb time limit and skybox height restrictions for Bellisseria are fairly reasonable.
