And this is what confused me initially...what are Maitimo's pronouns?

Based on the current profile, without being specifically told, I'd probably default to "they/them":

""Shapeshifter and gendershifter; usually an elf but often also mer, neko, furry, fae etc. I'm a demiboy and non-binary, neither male nor female, but a blend of both. (see picks for more). Always happy for friendly chat but not looking for sex or relationships;. From a practical point of view I am basically asexual.""

ETA: Then again, they have a Picks for that:

"I can't pin down my gender to male or female. "Demiboy" suits me best; I am primarily male-identified but not completely so, and I nearly always present feminine to some degree. Gender neutral pronouns (they/them) are most appropriate but if you want to use male or female ones for me that's fine too. Even better if you can mix them up in the same sentence."

Too much politics

This is one of the worst times in modern American history and not just for people of color.

Now our Congress is on vacation, not deciding on any unemployment as unemployment ran out July 25th.  So, many are currently effed while Congress takes a vacation.  There may be food stamps of some kind to find as many are just a bunch of charity cases now.   I think the working class to the oligarchy have always been a bunch of charity cases.

But, I've realized it doesn't do anything worthwhile to discuss politics here as we are still effed, and effed is effed.  Americans need help from other countries now.... like that is going to happen, yeah sure, still doesn't make it untrue that American's are currently very effed and in need of help or a government.

As far as to the OP, things change in SL and in RL, and changes are out of our control.

My favorite post from Maitimo was in a thread where I put a photo of a cat sleeping in the manger of a nativity.  Cats think EVERYTHING is a potential bed.  I will never forget the photos I received on FB of cats shamelessly wrecking the nativity and sharing one here and Maitimo loved it.  It was a cute photo.

Funnily, I thought this was a forum pertaining to Second Life, not a layman discussion forum for 'Murrican politics.

But since you point out how these are the 'worst times in modern history', that's both quite a stretch and quite a vague statement. Depending on what you define 'modern history' as, of course, but in many historical communities it's somewhat arbitrarily placed at 'the end of the middle-ages' (i.e. the age 'in the middle' of modern and antiquity, or more specifically the fall of Rome A.D. 476 and the fall of Constantinople - or today's Istanbul - A.D. 1453. Or just arbitrarily 'the new age starting with the Renaissance around 1500, but occasionally a little earlier, or sometimes at 1534 with the Act of Supremacy, depending on who you ask). Another commonly used definition for 'modern history' is 'the present and one hundred years prior'. In which case you're comparing current events to things like the Spanish Flu, the Wall Street crash of 1929 and the Great Depression of the 30's, the Second World War, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, the murders of JFK and Martin Luther King, Watergate, the Chicago Heat Wave, Columbine, the September 11 Attacks, Hurricanes Katrina and Maria, too many mass shootings to list, etc.

   TL:DR:

Some do. Your fear of socialism ( Red Scares ) trying to destroy capitalism ( greed ) is killing you.

But then again socialism ( the good kind ) died a long time ago over here in Europe as well.

The forums have always had their share of self-important, ultradefensive, and/or hyper emotional people.  The seem to have some delusion of ownership over who can post and what they can post.

The population here is no different than any group of people in real life.  It stinks when good people get run off or just give up because it seems so pointless to even post at times.  Humans generally fail at caring and having empathy for each other.

It's way easier to attack anyone that disagrees and attempt to silence what makes you (general you) uncomfortable.   Humans like easy so they just try to remove anything they don't want to or can't deal with.

good we have you to tell us that till we are so tired we aren't even able to care about it.

I'm sorry you can't keep up hun, but we all have our limitations in life. Do try to remember though that we have immense plasticity in our brains, so if you make a commitment to study hard and face the fatigue you will see some improvement.

Oh, I don't know.  As much as it's on the news and internet, I'm sure everyone else in the world knows what's happening in the U.S.  I see media coverage all the time on YouTube, so I'm pretty sure people from other countries would be able to get even a glimmer of what's going on here.    It's not we don't have a President that will tweet crazy conspiracy theories and crap at all hours of the day or night. Oh wait... we do.... 😛

I'm sure there are aware and conscientious Europeans, but my comment was in direct response to a European who said our current crisis doesn't compare to many of our past ones, but it does compare and exceed many of those.

the void is always waiting and lurking just around the next corner to gobble your soul.

if anyone gets 'ran' off from a forums it is a them problem. they are taking things to serious and letting it bother them on a personal level. Not a good thing to do for any reason.

nothing stays the same forever or can or will no matter how much some may want it too.

This is how YOU prefer to experience the forum. Others, however, do not nor do they want to experience the forum as you do -- they relate personally and actually like affecting and being affected by others emotionally.  Your way is not the ultimate way, it is simply what you want or prefer. What they are doing is not wrong for them.

Nobody said they expect anything to stay the same -- they are only expressing they miss someone.

Yes, I should have clarified what I meant by "modern" history but I honestly felt no one would really care anyways as to what I mean.  I meant "modern" in a very specific way - I meant my lifetime and/or my generation's and/or my families' lifetime.  We are three generations living now.

They say the darkest hour is before the dawn.  We shall see.

Sorry, to have called you into "political" stuffs.  Maybe you can forgive it as I'm pretty much talked out about it and all there is waiting (for action) anyways plus nothing anyone here can do about it.

Here comes a general comment. Not aimed at anyone in particular. Why has this thread morphed into politics and debate? Why is this relevant?

This uncontrollable side slippage into oh so predictable point scoring is so tiresome.

Matti had his/her reasons for stepping back. Many others have done so. Politics have been done to death on oh-so many threads and it goes nowhere.

And yes, yadda yadda yadda, people come, people go blah blah blah, it's how it is.

I never expected to set ignore on these forums. And yet a couple of weeks ago I found that by doing so, the blanket of normality made me happier about being here. Even so, like many others, the underlying tone here  has made me step back.

It's no longer a fun place.

It' s called a derail. There is no why.

I contacted Maitimo inworld. What was said between me and him/her is nobodies business but mine and his / hers.

I think there is a difference between feeling ran off & knowing when something is toxic if at least temporarily & one needs to disassociate from it.  I don’t know which it was in the OP’s @mention’s case.  But I’ve abandoned FB because of the vicious things people post.

I’m literally watching an episode of Seinfeld called The Yada Yada as I am reading this thread.  🤪

& no it’s not.  It might be me you set to ignore, actually- we had a bit of a dust up a few weeks back.  If so, I am sorry for that (which I guess you won’t see this anyways) & if not, I’m still sorry... 🙏

Oh my mind has gone......🤔

Whatever that was Pixie, I forgive you.

Scylla messaged me inworld yesterday evening to tell me about this thread, and a couple of other people have messaged me about it inworld since then.

First of all I want to say that I was deeply touched (and yes, I did shed some tears). Special thanks to @Sardonyx Mysterious, @Scylla Rhiadra and @TDD123

I didn't intend to come back here and reply to this thread, though I did read it after Scylla pointed me to it, and TDD almost convinced me that coming back was the right thing to do. But then I see the way it's derailed into political bickering on page TWO and that has confirmed to me that my decision to leave was the right one.  No-one can even post a nice heartfelt thread about how much they miss someone, without someone else turning it into an effing political soapbox. This is exactly the sort of thing that I wanted, and still want, to leave behind.

So, while I'd like to extend my heartfelt thanks and gratitude for the lovely things that some people have said about me, I feel more sure than ever that this forum is no longer a good fit for me.  I'm still active inworld most days, so anyone who would like to keep in touch with me, drop me an IM there, or send me a friends request, and with a small number of exceptions I will happily accept.

Oh and on the subject of pronouns, I think they/them is most appropriate and he/him is also fine, but I have to admit it was a little jarring to see she/her, so I guess I am not quite as ready for that as I thought I was. I'm not transitioning/becoming a girl or anything like that, in either SL or RL. (*runs off to edit my inworld profile*).

See you on the flipside.

Peace, out.
