  1. ...or the server, the network, your hardware, your settings (and we still don't know what they are), and probably the phase of the moon as well!
  2. That's a reasonable spec for a computer to use SL. You really ought to be getting acceptable fps with it. What fps* are you getting now, and what are you trying to achieve? Remember, SL works ok at 15 fps, although you need 20 + to get a smooth experience. I never really understand this clamour for very high fps; it's just not needed for SL**. The latency is likely to have much more derogitory effect if your "trigger fingure" needs to be a microsecond or two ahead of somebody else. Which elements of SL are suffering because of low frame rates? (If your fps are very low, i.e. <15, I know the answer to that will be "everything"!) Additionally, I'm assuming that you've already taken all steps possible, by setting appropriate values in Preferrences, to maximise your fps. If you copy/paste the information from your viewer's Help- About [viewer name] into a post here, we might spot some common problem areas that may exist. * fps will be very dependent on location and surroundings, and will vary widely. Just indicate a typical range. ** General question: do 4k displays need high fps rates?
  3. Alternately, it might have been accidentally moved off the visible part of the screen. With any object selected for editing, use your mouse wheel to scroll back, thus revealing the (normally) non-visible areas, and see if the edit pop-up is lurking there. Move it back if so. Tip: Some objects (not all) can be selected for editing by right-clicking them in inventory. If it can be edited this way, the menu you get when right-clicking will show Edit as an option.
  4. 12 years? That certainly was great value for money! It seems that all good things do come to an end sometime though.
  5. I'm on the current version of Firestorm, 6.4.13.63251, and nothing appears to have changed as far as zoom goes (or rather doesn't go!). The search for "Fiddlesticks" brings up a named region that shows no detail at all.
  6. Judging by the number of (what must be) bots that come through regularly - so regularly that I've got to memorise the names - everybody else seems to be able to survey the grid! 100% support for getting the World Map back properly. I miss it badly for planning and the distance elements of the voyage.
  7. As oten as not, this is caused by a clash between your normal AO and the furniture's poses. Your first move must be to turn off your normal AO before sitting, then let the furniture's poses/animations have full rein. If that doesn't solve the problem, look again at the suggestions above.
  8. There aren't supposed to be ANY security actions taken on the clear-fight zone of Bellisseria, which should be guaranteed safe c. 500m to 1900m. I do wish people would read the covenant! Long discussions have taken place of the LH threads about the best way to deal with these when you find them. I have sent a nice IM to the owner advising them, and got a thanks back - " I didn't know". The censensus seemed to be to just AR them and avoid possible unpleasantness though.
  9. I don't know how well you could fall back on the concept of L$ being only "game tokens". L$ have a US$ value; might this need you to jump through a lot of hoops to get approvals to be a Financial Provider? I might be wrong but needs clarifying.
  10. Unfortunately, not correct! The United Kingdom never adopted the Euro - never, ever. So, £3500 is 3500 pounds Sterling because it is!
  11. The way that Landing Points work can be a bit mysterious. This was discussed at length in another post (somewhere in the Technical Forum) not so long ago. After some practical testing, we discovered that generally everyone gets scooped up by the Landing Point if arriving from outside of the parcel/region. IF your group permissions allow you to "ignore the Landing Point", you will still get scooped up by the landing Point on first arrival, but there will be a short period following that where you could tp out and then back in to a personal Landmark and NOT get scooped up by the Landing Point. Things can be different for other types of entry and I won't bog things down with all the details because there is sufficient reason to suggest that the OP's problem is all down to Landing Points being set. Ending up underwater is a strange effect though. There must be something we don't know, something maybe the OP hasn't even realised is at work?
  12. Just to confirm, this is a problem your friend is experiencing after she updated her viewer? If so, does she see any other avatars as squares? Which viewer does she use? Her system information (from her viewer's Help -> About [viewer name] -> Info tab) would help. Get her to copy/paste all of that into a post here.
  13. H Aeirifawn, Somebody may well recognise this but, in the meantime, give us your system details from your viewer's top bar menu Help -> About [viewer name] -> Info tab Copy/paste that entire page into a post here. Only then will we know exactly what we're dealing with.
  14. I've regularly seen 10 from this list, at various places. All very likely bots of some description. (All within the top 10% of the list, unsurprisingly.)
  15. Amazing work in an amazing organisation seems to demand so much more than just the simple words of "thank you", but what else can be said? Thank you!
  16. You can look at your own usage in Windows (Settings -> Network & Internet -> Data Usage -> View Usage per App) and see how much data your viewer has used. You can reset this first, let a week go by, then see what you've used. You'll find a separate report for SL plugin, but this will be very small in comparison. Only then will you know what you typically use. I don't know how other operating systems present this sort of information, sorry.
  17. I think they got lost, somewhere along the line. If onl;y they had a working map.......
  18. A region that I have an interest in was running on RC server 2021-02-01.555570. On completion of today's [whatever it was] we're still running on the same server, so it looks like it was plain restarts on the Main Channel servers?
  19. There is a huge difference between the fully-optimised, static secenery and buildings of a computer game (which can all be downloaded onto your computer at start-up) and the often non-optimised assets made by users which are all dynamic, and can change at any time, and therefore have to be downloaded on the fly, as you move around in the Second Life world. As @Alwin Alcottpoints out above, you cannot compare the two. It matters not how well you can play an off-the-shelf computer game. It's how well you can handle the Second Life challenge (which is both its joy and its downfall!). Post your specs from Help -> About Firestorm (top bar menu of your viewer, as suggested); we might be able to help you when we can see what we're dealing with..
  20. Here is Firestorm's troubleshooting guide for inventory missing. Have a work through this and see how you get on first:- https://wiki.firestormviewer.org/fs_missing_inventory Good luck!
  21. They all meet up at a secret location for a "What Next?" seminar, which is actually a disguised version of an all-expenses paid pixelpissup. Here, they discuss the next series of improvements that might cause the maximum of woes, as payback for being made to continiually learn new oddities but continue to serve their users as if nothing had happened. There is absolutely nothing us mere users can do about this. When on seminars like this, they have the equivalent of diplomatic immunity.
  22. @Qie Niangaois correct. The map is definitely NOT fixed!
