  1. @Qie Niangao- thanks for all that! It seems tp prove what a totally useless tool the Landing Point really is, when considering its role in Group-only access. Or much else.
  2. Qie, just to be clear, did you mean onto a group-owned parcel from outside of it? Or just within it? If the latter, we're probably seeing the same. If the former, there's a difference. From outside of the parcel, with the correct group and permissions, the Landing Point always gets me. Only once I'm on the parcel can I freely teleport anywhere else on the parcel. If there is a difference, I really like to investigate as to why!
  3. If a Landing Point has been set, and you attempt to teleport into a personal landmark from outside of the parcel, even with the correctly permissioned group tag active, you will still get scooped up by the Landing Point. Once you have arrived in the parcel, however, then you will be free to teleport anywhere else in the parcel. Any attempt to teleport elsewhere on the parcel, by someone with incorrect permissions, will result in them getting scooped up by the Landing Point again. You are spot on about the way avatars who walk/fly etc into the parcel from an adjoining parcel get treated. They will avoid the clutches of the Landing Point altogether. If you are relying on a Landing Point to make sure people get to see the rules, or read the info., or whatever, it won't work for this type of entry and a scripted security orb is the only way to catch them. Edit: Just tested this again. I'm right. Despite being in the correct group, with the correct permissions, I did get scooped up by the Landing Point in the first instance when teleporting in from outside using a personal Landmark.
  4. I don't think anyone has mentioned the fact that scripts get one of the last bites of the cherry when it comes to server usage. (I'm presuming that this hasn't changed because of the tweaks LL are having to do to uplift to AWS, of course.) All of the serous stuff gets priority over scripts, which is why response to script commands gets delayed so badly when server loadings are high. Script execution just gets delayed and delayed until there is some server time available to run them. Generally speaking, the script is the victim, not the rogue?
  5. I changed outfits and not everything of the new outfit attached. When I checked the Appearance list, it showed 42/38 attachments worn. I was in a hurry, and didn't note the items that had obviously hung over from the previous outfit. Instead, I just made another outfit change and everything settled into place properly. If it happens again, I'll look more carefully; it might give some idea of the sort of items that are prone to hanging on a bit too long. Was it unlocked items followed immediately by an outfit change, and lag somewhere along the line not releasing them quick enough? I wish I could remember. At the time, I just put it down to "just one of those things that happen now and again".
  6. You are not alone! Same thing happened to me yesterday.
  7. Go to your viewer's top-bar Help -> About [viewer name]..... In the "You are at......." section, you will see something like "ec2-34-212-20-119.us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com (34.212.20.119:13023)" if it is an uplifted (AWS cloud) region. If everything goes to plan today, every region will look this! (Except the special regions "Debug1 " and "Debug2" ?)
  8. There's an irritating habit of some people to just double-click teleport to a green dot on the map. They will land on your head usually. If they are already in the same parcel, they will be able to see who that green dot is. If not, they have no idea, but it will "get them in the action" somewhere.
  9. First trick is to try to log into a different region. It may be that the region you are logging into is down for some reason. You didn't say if your friends were logging into the same region as you, or a different one. If they're successfully loggng into into the same region, there is indeed a problem with your account, viewer or perhaps even your connection and some extra investigation will be needed.
  10. The info you can give us from your viewer's top bar Help -> About[ViewerName] will be helpful, too. Copy.paste all of that into a post here. (If you can grab that info while logged in, a little extra info is obtained. If not, just get it before logging in. It's all helpful!).
  11. Me too. I find the biggest problem is recognising that the tp is failing. If I can hit the Cancel button quickly enough, there is a good chance of recovery. Hit it a bit too late and I'm doomed. I will appear to be ok, but will only be able to rotate my avatar; not being able to walk. A crash will inevitably follow after a while, and there is nothing that can be done to avoid it.
  12. I don't know of an easy way to migrate a group membership to a new one, but I suspect that a new group might suffer exactly the same problems. LL are on the case, or so they assure us. There was a degree of doubt as to whether LL understood how important groups were to residents, when they proposed a reduction in the number of groups we were permitted. A big hoo-hah resulted, LL, to their credit, listened, and scrapped that plan. We can therefore assume that LL do understand how important group facilities are, and will give whatever priority they can to this problem - can't we? mmm...hope so! Right now, LL are up to their neck in getting everything transferred over to AWS. That seems to be happening at pace. I'm sure they'll get onto a number of issues that are needing attention when the transfer is complete - group chat/messages being just one. Fingers crossed! P.S. Do read the Uplift Update, posted by @RowanMinx(about a dozen or so posts above) if you haven't already.
  13. Remenbrance |Day in the uk, too. With COVID having stopped all the local services at war memorials, it was marked this year by people standing outside their homes at 11 o'clock for the two minutes' silence. Several neighbours of ours did this, and it was lovely that passers-by also stopped for the duration. Not all, sadly, but a goodly number of them. "At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them."
  14. Oh dear! It is so easy to go blamimg LL for malfunctions, especially when we know that they're tinkering with the system. @animats's theory about Akamai is interesting, and reminds us that there are several other fingers in this pie! I'm in England, so maybe have more potential hiccups than others. I'm using FS (non-EEP).
  15. I don't know about putting draw distance on the top bar, but it is quickly available via Quick Preferrences (a bottom bar button), if that helps at all.
  16. Very slow loading indeed, and does seem to have been getting worse recently. If what @PekeNL says is true for AWS regions, let's hope for a swift and smooth transfer of all regions soon.
  17. I think I dredged up information from the back of my mind that referred to accessing Adult land, as opposed to Adult content. Accessing Adult land, as far as I am able to verify, requires payment information to be on file and/or age verification, depending on how the land has been set up. Accessing Adult content only appears to need age verification, and should be able to be set by the Resident in Preferrences. So I was indeed wrong in my earlier post. It should be a simple matter to set access to Adult content, provided that an "over 18" date of birth has been registered. A support case should solve if it won't work.
  18. Promote your new group:- Word of mouth. Your friends to their friends etc. Can bring results for no expense. Ad Boards, found on many popular SL sites can be rented for maybe as little as L$50/week. Choose sites that are likely to attract the sort of people you would like to have in your group. You might have to wait, then pounce, to rent a board for a few weeks. Organise an event and advertise it in LL's Event Listing. (Please don't be tempted to spam!) Whatever, good luck in her venture.
  19. Some thoughts off the back of my head:- In Real Life, advertising on radio would be a very expensive and inefficient way to reach the relatively small numbers of listeners that might be Second Life Residents. In SL, radio stations can (and are) set to receive and play content from just one radio station at a time, dependant uopn the style and preferrences of the parcel/region owner. Which stations are those? Which stations would you target? There's no real way that I know of to get any statistics on this, and the comment about high cost (above) still stands, I really think this is a non-runner to start with; maybe stick to the tried and tested Group Messaging suggested by @Drakonadrgora Darkfold (when LL get it all working properly again!) Next, how to promote the Group without annoying everyone....!
  20. To obtain the full maturity levels, a payment method has to be set up and accepted. This is pretty clearly documented. What is not clearly documented is that you also had to have to use it to get the full registration to activate, e.g.. purchase some L$. I think this is still true, with the change to Tilia. It has certainly tripped people up in the past. Could that have been the case for your alt? People don't readily associate the eventual purchse of L$ and the mysterious opening up of maturity ratings together, either, when suddenly it all does all work as required.
  21. I think the latest word on this came from Oz Linden, on 16th October, when he said, " Increased Teleport Failures We have seen a slight increase in the frequency of teleport failures. I know that if it's happened to you it probably doesn't feel like a "slight" problem, especially since it appears to be true that if it's happened to someone once, it tends to keep happening for a while. Measured over the entire grid, it's just under two percentage points, but even that is unacceptable. We're less sure of the specific causes for this (including whether or not it's Uplift related), but are improving our ability to collect data on it and are very much focused on finding and fixing the problem whatever it is."
