  1. If they were friends very recently added, they can take a while to show up on the web pages. Otherwise, I have no ideas, sorry! Support might be your only route. But first, give it a day or so and see if they appear.
  2. I couldn't log in with Firestorm, but I could with the standard LL viewer. After that successful login, I was able to re-log with Firestorm. That was an easy fix for me; I hope it might work for others. Sure beats going through support tomorrow when they open their doors again!
  3. LL supposedly made some improvements to sim crossings recently. I've found that that may well be effective; they do seem better than they were. It still pays huge dividends to ensure that the script loading you carry is minimised and that your connection with SL's servers is as good as you can get. The advice regarding dedicating all your your V-ram to textures makes sense, too. Texture loading can be a real pain, but other functions need that V-ram too, so don't give it all away! connection with SL's servers.... AWS servers!
  4. So, * SL user-creators are rubbish. For a large part, this may well be true. * You can go anywhere and create, as an amateur, without needing to study for 3 years. Really? Choose your poison!
  5. @Johnnycash Stromfield, please don't take things too personally. I did say that "things were complicated", and the old hands gasp in horror when they see some of the settings chosen. I'm sure that, although maybe a bit blunt, the above comments were meant to helpful. We see, for example, many people who come to SL from the Gaming World, and just can't understand why their supa-doopa gaming rig doesn't handle SL well at all. They have no idea that everything is being downloaded, every few milli-seconds, on-the-fly (as opposed to everything being downloaded at the commencement of the game onto your hard disc/memory). SL's big advantage is allowing user creation. It's potential downfall is having to keep up with this!
  6. Sim crossings! It was a nasty idea to build a runway right against a region boundary like that, just when you need the best possible control of the aircraft. However, things will only be bad like that if you're carting a heavy script load with you... 2.4% packet loss is not good either. That figure might look insignificant, but it isn't! Check all your connections, reboot your router and see if you can get packet loss back to 0 (or very near). Maybe your ISP isn't providing the best quality for you, but check out your own house first. I don't know if you appreciate how sim crossings work and why they can be perilous. It can be a bit of a lengthy explanation so, for the time being, I'll assume that you do. Say if you don't; we'll explain. You'll need a decent length of draw distance for flying, but do you need to keep your graphics right up on ultra? You could ease the load on your hardware a lot by pegging that back a bit for the flying stages of your jouirney. PS: Welcome to the Forums!
  7. Yes, thanks @Jenna Huntsman. All of what you say is true. I was really only sort of sympathising with @dd Temin with regard to the masive difference in the way the stats are now calculated and presented, inevitably causing great surprise to anyone who hasn't been able to keep up with the latest changes. It's a very intricate issue though and that's why I simply pointed to the thread that is currently running and busting with interesting stuff.
  8. I was looking at a Bellisseria region an hour ago, Sirinnial. 100% scripts run but script time only 4 to 5ms. I'm used to seeing figures more like 30% scripts run and 16ms script time! This was, I think, the latest discussions about all of this:- That topic is still active; pehaps a good idea to continue any further quieries there.
  9. Where on earth did you learn that from? The look-at target shows exactly where your camera is focussed. I agree it doesn't guarantee that you are actually looking there with your RL eyes.
  10. Your camera controls don't rely on in-world scripts to operate and will work perfectly normally in places where scripts are prohibited. PS You can buy certain scripted camera controllers which can save camera angles etc. These may well be affected in No-Scripts areas but your standard camera controls will be fine.
  11. The default camera settings do not allow the camera to travel through odinary walls etc. If it does meet such an obstruction, it will usually tilt upwards to try to keep focused on your avatar. This can be over-ridden but results in you looking at the other side of the wall (or whatever) that has got in the way.
  12. Thanks, @Paulsian. Now I see what you meant. Some of the terms get confused - beacons and look-at targets are sort of different things. A look-at target identifies exactly where your camera is focused whereas a beacon identifies an object's position on the grid.
  13. No. Not as far as I'm aware. However, the default amounts have never been useful to me, and a "bespoke" amount nearly always has be specified. Things like my rent contributions never align with those defaults
  14. Using Firestorm, open a notecard and note the "Edit" button. Pressing this will open the notecard in WordPad. From there, the normal "File -> Save As" option will create a copy on your computer, wherever you specified. @Qie Niangaopoints out that embedded contents might be tricky. I'm not sure how this might work out; I'll experiment later. But for a quick and easy way to save a text notecard to computer, this will work just fine. @Prokofy Neva, do I remember correctly that you don't like to use Firestorm? Forgive me if I'm wrong. I don't know if other viewers present this "Edit" option.
  15. Very refreshing to hear. You obviously do tread carefully. Unfortunately, not all do.
  16. There is no question at all about this. As @Alwin Alcott and others have stressed, there in NOTHING in the ToS/Guidelines to prevent child (or, for that matter, child-like) avatars being on Adult rated land. The RL laws relating to the depiction of child pornography, in most European countries, including mine, are far-reaching, with draconian penalties. Internet activity is regularly monitored by the authorities. On the parcel that I am jointly responsible for, facilities for adult activities are provided all over the parcel. The possibility that a child avatar could end up seen or photographed, maybe perhaps only in the background, having just "walked round the corner" and, worse still, published, is not something I am prepared to risk. Should I hive off a separate parcel for child avatars, with a nursery enviroment perhaps? A primary school etc.? That would keep us safe from any risk. Unfortunately for child avatars, I'm paying for adult space, not that. Result: No child avatars permitted because I say so. The ToS/Guidelines are pointless in this respect and should never be given as a reason. Footnote to "realistically-sized" avatars:- Tread carefully! The height scale given in the Shape Editor bears little resemblance to the general scaling of SL and it is very easy to make yourself appear child-like. Also, having full adult shapings on a small female avatar (particulary if "ample") might be regarded as "sexualising a child image". Do not get grumpy if you are asked to change or leave.
  17. Animesh has much to answer for! ☺️
  18. There might be more than just settings at play here, so it is always useful to be able to see the info from the viewer's top-bar menu Help -> About [viewer name] - Info Tab. Copy/paste that entire page to a post here. (If you would like to keep Location meaningless, go to an LL water sim, e.g. HATTON, to collect this data, or simply edit the Location out before posting.) This can sometimes highlight a few extra problems not otherwise evident.
  19. That is very annoying! Open the target folder so that all of its sub-folders are showing, then widen the target inventory window until the vertical scroll bar disappears. (That typically needs about 2/3 of my screen width, which is a nuisance but worth putting up with.) With luck, the list won't whizz off scrolling on its own now.
  20. My alt has all group chat/notices turned off, and no subscriptions. Admittedly not logged in for 10 days, she had the capped messages recently. I can only presume some mysterious flurry of messages arrived from an unknown source - and will never know where they came from because they were capped. Alternatively, something hiccuped in LL's systems. I'll never know.
  21. When you first load up a new viewer, it will set up new folders for caches and all sorts of other things. The files inside these folders need to be filled by real-time downloading. The cache files will probably not fill in just one session either. All of this will take up time and performance. How long this all takes depends on a zillion factors - is your computer having a good day, what else is running, the state of your connection, how well the internet is performing, etc. Maybe you are simply suffering these effects? If so, things should settle down reasonanly quickly. If not, maybe something else is afoot... Do, as soon as possible, make sure your settings are set sensibly, because a default setting might be too much for your setup. If you need further guidance on all that, ask again. It's whole new ballgame! It might be useful if we could see your system settings. You can post them here by going to your top-bar menu, Help -> About - > [viewer name] and copy/paste that in a post here. (You can edit-out your location, if that is sensitive.)
  22. It's bad enough to have umpteen unnecessary items showing up with each individual texture. Chuck in all the demos too and the results of a search just becomes a morass of unwanted spam. At least, by using the "exclude demos" option, we can make a bit of sense of the results - not a lot more, admittedly, because lots of demos will still appear. Sure, try the demo first. Decent creators/merchants provide a link to the demo in the main listing. That's good enough, isn't it? One day. maybe search will return what we ask for. One day....
