I don't mean flying like Superman, I mean flying aircraft. My partner and I used to go gliding a lot, we enjoyed it as much as sailing, in SL. Yet since the uplift long distance sailing using the World Map and any decent gliding using said map has been impossible. So far as I know the World map is at best partial and most of the time utterly useless. Tonight, with all of SL supposedly on the same server version, we found sim crossings very smooth but at about every third crossing the glider became totally unresponsive and we crashed on every flight (I mean "the glider fell out of the sky" sort of crash. The two attempts at sailing recently we abandoned since we simply could not see on the world map any of the regions beyond the Main part of Blake Sea. Now are our experiences atypical (too many scripts etc) or is sailing and flying in SL currently thoroughly borked? I'd welcome some perspective from others.
There's something strange at the point where Robin Loop crosses from Juanita to Grote. Vehicles get knocked off the road at the region crossing. There are some nearby encroachments involving a private parking lot, but I can't see the problem even in wireframe mode. Go to http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Juanita/150/15/85 and head southeast in the left lane of Robin Loop to see this. This may be new; I ride around Robin Loop regularly and haven't hit this before. I've tried different motorcycles and Firestorm versions, and it's the same every time. Logging out doesn't affect it. Even moving at very slow speed, the problem appears. It's a small bump, not a solid wall; going fast enough will get through it. That's the reverse of most region crossing problems. Sinking at a region crossing is a general problem and well understood, but this is something else. The last time I hit something like this, someone had put an invisible prim across a road.
I'm looking for some land I can use to test region crossing issues for vehicles. What I need is: Two adjacent parcels in different regions with building permission on both sides. Enough space for a 64m x 8m road on each side. A busy sim with some lag and many avatars. (This test works fine in an empty sandbox.) Just a few days of use. See for the goal here.
