Oh, how I wish you hadn't have been! We all need a dose of optimism, a glimpse of light at the end of this debilitated tunnel.

I think this depends entirely on how much zoom each "click" produces, on your particular mouse/controller. I've been able to zoom out two clicks of my mouse wheel, getting a larger area each time, but the third click produces "Poof" - nothing! I guess that's the limit of detail available at the moment.

FPS and Lag... Why is it Directional?
Odaks replied to Cari Soulstar's topic in General Discussion Forum
I was keeping my answer as simple as possible and, yes, occluded items won't be displayed. The point is, however, all items within the draw distance have to be computed, and effectively drawn, in order that the viewer can decide what is occluded and what is not. That is the substantial loading for the graphics. Others have already pointed out that this process is actually far more complicated than the simplified picture I've tried to paint. The fact that some items will not be displayed at the end of this process is insignificant by comparison - the "damage" has already been done at this point. -

FPS and Lag... Why is it Directional?
Odaks replied to Cari Soulstar's topic in General Discussion Forum
Your viewer will actually compute and draw everything within your draw distance, whether you can see it or not. So not only does what you see affect fps, what you can't see does too. Unless your draw distance keeps everything that is drawn confined to within your box, it's anyones' guess how stuff outside will affect things. -

A silly question, I hope, but have you updated your viewer? A seven-year-old viewer will get booted. -
You have to file a support ticket and request access to Aditi, BUT......... existing users can still use Aditi, but new users cannot be added for the time being. https://status.secondlifegrid.net/incidents/q3mnxnpys7dt

how do you prevent ppl from getting into your vehicle?
Odaks replied to NakedSummer's topic in General Discussion Forum
There's a few passenger eject scripts on the marketplace; a search in Items for "passenger eject" will show some up. Be careful about exactly who gets ejected! Sorry, I can't vouch for any of them as I've never used them. -
That is exactly what I have done! Its works very well - do it! I like the easy access to other presets, too, even if I have to pull the floater up again to set them.

Thanks! I didn't know that; I can see it would be a problem. -
How do I leave a group I created?

If the membership has fallen to one or zero, it will be automatically disbanded after 48 hours. -
Oh no - just as he was about to find out about 42!

In the UK, photographers have the right to take photographs of anything in the public space, despite what some police would have people believe. However, there are some serious pitfalls ahead when it comes to publishing those photographs, and it can get quite complicated when deciding what needs permission and what doesn't.

I'm also finding that orange-cloud avatars seem to take ages to rez in fully. Sometimes worse than others, but always seemingly worse than things used to be. It doesn't need a crowded place either. This morning I tp'd to a friend, in a region with 4 other avatars only, and it took a long time for her to appear properly. I haven't done any timing; it's all just qualitative, but it really does sem a lot longer than it used to. There might be an element of impression here, though. Previously, while waiting for the last few body parts to arrive by post, one got the impression that you were nearly there; just a few more bits to go. Now that you remain an orange cloud until everything is actually there, the full time taken becomes very noticable. Has a deliberate change of feature been actually implemented? Visible bits and pieces arriving piecemeal, hanging around then finally attaching, versus being held as an orange (or white) cloud until everything is in place? Or is this a case of just how it happens sometimes?

Thanks @Wulfie Reanimatorfor spotting this one straight off. I was hoping somebody with more knowledge would jump in soon. @Cooltang Flow, glad its sorted out for you!

Teleport Issues are NOT fixed
Odaks replied to Imagin Illyar's topic in General Second Life Tech Discussion
Sadly, I've had several TP crashes over the last few days, so it isn't fixed for me. When they work, they work well. But by the time I realise that it isn't working, the damage is done; there is no way out. I will often end up able to rotate my avatar on the spot, but not move forwards or back. Eventually the crash develops fully with a "you have been logged out.." fail. -
Great stuff! Thanks..... The first thing I have noticed is that you are not running the latest release of Firestorm, which is Firestorm 6.4.12 (62831). This version has all the required fixes for EEP and, if this was the problem, updating to this version may well fix things. https://www.firestormviewer.org/ (The page I've linked to above will tell you all about this new release, then you can lead on through to the actual download.) If it solves the problem, do come back and tell us. I've no doubt you'll be back if it doesn't! Edit to add: For future reference, if you can be logged-in when you collect your system information from Help - About..., it will also give a bit of information about your connection. Probably not needed in this case, but just so you know.

Hi Cooltang, I'm wondering if this is some sort of glitch with EEP. Just a stab in the dark at the moment. What will be needed, if only to exclude the usual suspects, is the information about your setup. Get this from your viewer's top bar menus:- Help -> About Firestorm -> Info tab There is a "copy to clipboard" button that will capture the lot for you..... then paste it here in a post. As more knowledgable people pick up on this problem. they'll be able to see exactly what your current setup is. It will help them no end!

Firestorm - FPS when viewer not focused
Odaks replied to Kyrie Deka's topic in General Second Life Tech Discussion
I was under the impression that it is actually a Windows function that puts a lid on minimised programs, and have always presumed that the SL viewers piggyback onto that. If so, the viewer's settings seem to be able to influence the default Windows settings. I wonder how other operating sytems respond; the same way? I might be totally wrong about about this. Can anyone confirm or deny? -
I get stats from a visitor system sent by email on a daily basis. They usually come in 5 or 6 separate emails and have been very reliable over recent months. (Not so in the past, when missing emails were quiite common!). At 00:01 hrs UCT, 15th December 2020, not a single email arrived. (These would have contained the stats from the 14th). I use gmail. They've come in ok since. I'll try a different email client later today and see if the missing ones will appear.

This has definitely been the case for a while, and before the actual uplift to AWS (but possibly since preparitory changes were made?). My land-group set a Landing Point up around the the end of June 2020 and I'm pretty sure the Landing Point was grabbing group members on first arrival (with the group permissions set and the group active), back then. Being the first time that we have ever used a Landing Point, at first I accepted this as expected behaviour but, now that more behavoural issues have been revealed, it seems that this is not working as intended at all. One thing that I have been able to confirm is that if your group role doesn't permit ignoring the Landing Point, you will get scooped up by the Landing Point on any attempt to TP to a personal landmark. That much, at least, seems to work as intended.
