I am going for both a Associate of Arts & Sociology Degree's (both separately atm), and while I am 55yo and nervous, I am also very excited about it to.

Sociology is nice to study so don't be nervous about it, i studied it along with Political Economy more than two decades ago, you 'll like it.

in RL I am planning a career change, still in IT area but more towards data analysis, data science. I also want to learn Spanish up to level A2 or B1 and then decide if I should continue or start a new language (I don't need to be fluent in Spanish, I don't use it daily it's mostly an exercise for the brain). Last but not least, last year I started rollerblading and I want to continue this year

in SL I want to spend less money to buy L$ and in general buy less. My inventory is tiny compared to many avis, especially for almost a 14 yo avatar (under 40k) but I can see how many items I have never used and it seems pointless to buy so much. I am also looking forward to more photography collabs with friends or potential new friends

Congratulations Bran, a new job is always an exciting and also at times scary move. I wish you every success and hope you find the path to a new career you will enjoy.

Having a regular job does change one’s life patterns, you need to get up and go to bed at a certain time to be functional and structure your day around it. So if that helps you, I hope it will give you the structure you need. Routine is great for some of us, it gives fixed points throughout the day, like a framework you can build the rest of your life on. Best wishes to you! 🤗🐱

Aww...thanks so much Krystina (I keep thinking I replied to this, and just now realized I did not, in fact actually do it)

I actually couldn't agree more. I know some people have the discipline to organize their own day (and I am a little envious of it. How. How can you maintain a schedule that only you are accountable to? Sounds like sorcery to me) But I have always been more productive with my free time when there was non-free time I needed to work around.

I hope for all the best for you too, especially towards your veterinary goals. Medical ANYthing is a lofty lofty aim. Various species of animal medicine is bewildering. Others have said it before (and in this thread, too!) but that is so very impressive, both for the skill required, and the heart to chose it.

Right now I'm practising in a company as a copywriter.  Hope to get a paid online job later.
Also I believe it's doable to get some other free courses online, such as painting lessons.
Hope to rent a better house upper in a building or ideally back in country again.
Hope to get a better car...
To take care of my health and to be happier than last year.
Happy new year 2022!

Hey Bran, my turn to be on the "I thought I had replied to this" side 🙂

Thank you for the kind words, I am truly humbled 💙

I think  in vet medicine, just like human medicine, you find all types... those who just decided to pursue that career because they really love and have a deep interest in animals, others that just see it as a cash cow, and other (I have unfortunately met a few) who are just plain psychos. I can't really understand how one can treat an animal and not feel compassion and love towards it, but humans are wired differently than the other mammals.

As you said, unlike MDs, vets tend to work across different species and I can attest that is a huge challenge! Mammals all have 7 cervical vertebras but that aside,  each specie has different homeostatic processes and characteristics. A lot of vets decide to specialise in a particular class of animals, this gives better focus and in-depth knowledge about the physiology of that particular animal.  In my case, I always loved and connected with large animals (equines, bovines) so it was a natural choice and personal interest to focus on those animals.

Believe it or not there are around 22 vet med specialisations!  Some are similar to MDs specialisations like internal medicine, dermatology, anesthesia.

Sorry for the long post and thank you again for your good wishes and kindness.. I hope 2022 brings you all you hoped for! 🤗

I come from veterinary medicine as well - small companion animal med, octopus keeper, and recently shelter medicine.  No one goes into vet med because it will make them rich.  Even in specialties the payoff is not becoming a millionaire and people still accuse you of money grubbing and hate because you won't treat their Fluffy for free.  If I have to hear "What about your oath to heal animals" one more time.... Gah!  I have bills to pay, employees to pay, benefits to pay for, building and supply overhead, insurance. No, I can't treat your cat for free or I won't be in business long.  Private medicine sometimes sucks.  I'll stick with exotics and shelters for now.

Hey Cinnamon I know, it’s not a millionaire career. Over here though large and farm animal can be quite a lucrative choice… especially if one ends working with racing studs, racecourses and for farm animals, the food industry. Definitely either of those are not for me. I love horses and also don’t eat meat, so that side of vet med wasn’t for me. I stick with equine rehabilitation and internal medicine and I am happy to treat any other large animal if people ask me to.

Ireland is a bit odd like that. Also 1st year vet med entries are strictly controlled by the college of surgeons, so there are usually a very limited numbers available every year (100 people max). This somehow changes the perspective on why some people choose it for the monetary aspect. Less so with the younger generations to be honest, but I know many middle age and up large animal vets who are just 100% in just for the money nothing else. Sad really.

I'm actually getting a fresh start at organizing my life.  After two stays in the hospital in December, I suddenly became super aware of my mortality and the mess that will have to be gone through when I'm gone. So I've been doing estate planning and financial planning and organizing my records and cleaning house.

I also started paying close attention to what I eat because I want to live.  I need to watch salts and oxalates because my kidneys are very fragile and I have hypocalcemia. And I can't skip meals and I have to keep an eye on hydration.

I'll be looking for a different job.. I already told them that if work requires this much of my time when the day spring gets here, I'll be somewhere else on that day.. So they have more than a two weeks notice from me..

It's a really good chance they won't change their hours, so I'll be changing mine..

I'm just not going to live at work.. I'll go back to what I was doing before I went there, at the very least, which still wasn't a bad living at all. :)

I really don't like the new company that took over anyways..

Yup, same. Happy 2022.  Some things never change

which ones?  Do I still have time to read them or are they gone already?  I've been too busy to read much. I pick and choose the ones that look interesting to me.

I think they were nuked pretty quickly last night, I went and napped for a couple hours and missed all the excitement. 😴 They were already gone when I woke up.

Just another set of spammy threads, started en-mass by the usual griefy, axe to grind type (similar in content/tone to the threads concerning a specific TPV Dev) but this time targeting a different user.

Thanks, I've probably skipped them. I'll look around, but not too hard. Doesn't sound like something I really want to read so if they are gone, no big loss.

Yeah, they're all gone but its not too hard to spot them if a few more pop up again. All caps titles, rather rude, hateful labels/language as part of the title and initial post ... You cannot miss them if they crop up.

It was just a few new posts in all caps with a bunch of racist and misogynistic rantings.  No one commented and everyone reported them.  They only stuck around long enough for a some of us unlucky enough to see them to post in a bunch of threads to move them to page 2.  Then *Poof* the mods nuked 'em.

To the the Veterinary types :)
My late teens and early twenties were spent living near the Uni of Sydney Veterinary Campus in, (then), rural western Sydney.
They had a yearly "BarbiGrog" which was open to the public which very few of the "masses" ever knew about. But I always did. 😊
The highlight of the event were short films shot & edited by the students & staff and this was back in the day when humour knew no bounds in regard to political correctness, nudity, gunja use or language etc etc.
By the time the film-fest started I'd always found some new friends to party with who were really cool country girls, generally pretty lonely out of college hours even though they lived on campus. (small numbers).
The films were the funniest $hit I've ever seen and we laughed so hard some even fell off the walkway roofs we would climb up onto for the best view. (on to lush soft grass thank goodness).
And Drink! omg we'd get sooo sloshed and be singing and falling over and cheering and and and...
Best times I've ever had with the Vet students!. 😉
