  1. Should the permission system be revised?: No. For these reasons: Massive fights will break out, forums, jira, in-world communities. People will lose trust in LL. There are legitement reasons for permissions to be as they are with some things. Now, that doesn't mean I will support no-mod stuff. I find that no-mod stifles creativity. If I buy say, a shirt IRL, I have the right to tie-dye it, paint it however I want, etc. If I have a house, I can change the walls as I like. I personally think that no-mod should be left to specific cases like scripts, game huds, etc. I see people use the lack of mesh being able to be resized a lot, and I find that kinda dumb tbh. Just because it can't be resized, doesn't mean there are not other uses to have modify permissions, for example: Rigged mesh can be linked together, so I can link my shirt with my pants, or gloves with my shirt. Some creators will make gloves/shoes as separate items(left glove, right glove), and that takes up attachment slot space. Worse is when bodies come in left leg, right leg, left arm, right arm, chest, head. Some creators are dumb and make the rigged mesh's bounding box absolutely massive because they can't make proper LODs. This results in awkwardness when entering areas and people see a massive top taking over the building, and personally, I like to not cheat LOD and have a bazillion polygons from 100 meters away. Some creators will explode their meshes before linking them together. When I say explode, I mean all the pieces are separated and all over the place. This makes, again, loading awkward. If the meshes are properly positioned and attached to the right bone, it will simply appear as a t-pose while downloading, which is much more visually appealing to me. Some creators will attach useless meshes to stuff, like a full mesh logo with a stupid amount of polygons, or a brain that no one will ever see. I like to remove those to lower my render weight, and be considerate to others who have to render my avatar. Some creators put retexturing scripts in clothes, which is quite handy, until you end up with 8 scripts using 64 KiB each constantly listening on a channel. I like to remove those scripts if I don't need them. Built in face lights are evil. Do people have the right to make their items no-modify? Yes, absolutely. Do I have the right to say "nope not buying that"? Absolutely. Have I done so? Yes, I have, I always do.
  2. Kick me goal: L$746,271,473,553 Cause: no cause, I just want more L$ than Governor Linden(who has several hundred billion L$ for some reason).
  3. Most TVs these days do not require you to deed them to the land group. However, that does not mean that it is harmful to deed it, simply means it is a older system. Everything that a script does without permission is typically harmless. The most a script can do without permissions is push your avatar around, grief, etc. Which if it hasn't done so already, I'd say it is probably safe. If you deed it to land, a script gains the following benefits: Ability to terraform. Ability to change parcel media settings Ability to eject, teleport agents home, and manage parcel access list. Terraform(terrain modification) griefing and parcel access list griefing are some of the rarest things in SL, and you would have to go out to find something extremely fishy to find such a thing. The TV would require it to be deeded so it can modify the parcel media settings, specifically, it wants to modify the URL and mime type part of this panel: As for "Can scripts see your RL information?": Absolutely not, even with every permission, LSL cannot see your real life information, including credit card information. The most that it *can* do money wise, is take all your L$, but that requires you to grant this very loud permission dialog access to do so: If you have any follow up questions, or even, would like to test it on my land, I would be more than happy to answer or let you deed it to my land to test it! If it does go haywire, which I doubt it will, I will easily be able to fix it.
  4. Did he look like this? (I missed the biker part, just imagine he is wearing a leather jacket and a spike helmet)
  5. I have experienced this before, not with a club but same idea. First let me tell you, you will be fighting a losing battle. If a majority of the people at said club are the ones bashing, they won't care what you have to say, because they won't find issue with anything regarding double standards in rules because it protects them. Additionally, region owners are allowed to enforce rules as they see fit, this includes being biased, as long as it isn't against a protected class(in which case, LL will step in. See the "Intolerance" abuse report category). So what can you do? 1. Passively inform people you know. This means, don't go out on a vendetta* and try to bring them down. Don't stoop to their† level. This means: If the club is mentioned within a group of people you know who have either the same ideals, or believe in fair treatment, then calmly bring it up‡. Stating "The club fosters a unwelcoming and hostile environment" works much much better than "CLUB IS BAISED!!!!". If you are discussing a topic where it is relevant, say for example, at a discussion board with people of same ideals talking about fair treatment, then you can bring it up there as well, but don't stick on it every discussion. 2. Find a better club. Clubs are a dime a dozen in Second Life, you can find many out there. There are a lot out there that specifically ban political discussions, welcome constructive political constructions, or even cater to your specific ideals! I recommend checking the Destination Guide or World Search regarding this. * Vendetta would be spamming or posting in irrelevant channels(group chats, forums, local chat, etc) in attempts to bring them down. This question does not qualify as such as it does not name and shame said club. † Because people will try to put words in my mouth, when I say "their", I mean the club's and the people there. Not a specific political party. I know some democrats first hand who are level headed and would find issue with the environment there. ‡ Not on the forums, naming and shaming is not permitted on the forums.
  6. In this day and age, everything is offensive. Personally, I am a agnostic atheist(Think scientist style belief of neither believing or disbelieving), but my heritage lies in Christianity(I was raised Christian, my parents are Christian, and I still celebrate Christmas/Easter) and I will stand by and defend it when needed. This is not one of those times. I say go for it! I do not see anything wrong with it. If there was something wrong with it, then there is a lot of BIBLE GAMES(I am looking at you zoo race, super 3d Noah's ark and the many other Christian video games) designed to try and teach but would be as equally offensive as someone wearing a Jesus avatar. The way I see it, by keeping a culture in the closet and forbidding anyone to do anything with it will just cause it to die out due to obscurity and lack of information, as no one will know the history, stories, and figures of the culture. As for humor. A humorless life is a sad one. Everyone has differing levels of humor, I personally have highly controversial and dark levels of humor(Equal opportunity offender, or south park style), not to say I don't understand other humor. Someone using a Jesus avatar and walking around is honestly one of the more innocent type of humor in my book. If it did offend me, I would still be light-years more offended by WBC lol.
  7. Reason it works for some and not others is due to browser caching. If it works for you, and you want it to be broken, go to this page and press F5. 😉
  8. I read them my... interests lists.. typically scares people away. Alternatively, I link them weird youtube videos, like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbqx7RGlWiI
  9. I have to stay at least somewhat PG, and I couldn't figure any other way to word it. I think for the most part, in the context it is used, it is for educational and study purposes, and not a explicit discussion, so I do not think LL will mind too much as long as it is constructive.
  10. The whole "female nipple" debate is a massive mess. Personally, I don't see why it was sexualized in the first place, and I do not see it as a sexual thing, but here is my thoughts regarding it being as neutral as possible: We could for presume that the female breasts are probably considered sexual due to using them as a place to slide a hotdog, but this opens a whole other can of worms. The anus, for example, is also not a sexual reproduction organ, however it is considered explicit as well, presumably due to it being a place to insert hotdogs. With the above in mind, should the mouth also be considered explicit? What about hands and feet? There are even some countries who say ankles are explicit. Butts can also be considered explicit, but now we also have another issue: Cartoony butts vs realistic butts, why is one explicit and the other not explicit? If you show your avatar's butt in a general region and you are wearing a realistic avatar, you will likely get in trouble. But if you go around pantless as bugs bunny, you will not get in trouble. So lets get back to basics and focus on just the female breasts. Say we set some ground rules on breasts, which I will promptly question, defining what is a explicit breast and what is a non-explicit breast: Non-explicit: A topless woman, any setting you would normally see a topless man in, say weight lifting, or at the beach, maybe doing some yard work. Explicit: Suggestively rubbing her breasts. The reason why suggestively rubbing the breasts can be seen as explicit as it is seen as "sexy", but you also have men who flex their muscles who some people will also consider "sexy". What makes the difference here? --end thoughts-- The whole logic behind the "x is explicit and y isn't explicit" baffles me. It should be as simple as "Is it used for sexual reproduction? If so, it is sexual. Otherwise it is not.", but the more you look into it, the deeper the rabbit hole gets and you find yourself questioning why this and not that? As for LL enforcement of it, I believe it is a case of "Well our laws say it is explicit so we say it is explicit", especially when a majority of all states/counties in the United States also say it is explicit. Not saying I agree with the decision of the law, it is just "that's the norm".
  11. Today I am feeling like an ADULT, for I just realized: me as a child(like, under 14 years old): I do not fear death, death is like a bazillion years away. There is no need to fear the inevitable. me as an adult: LIFE IS GOING TOO FAST SLOW IT DOWN
  12. I keep my land open to the public because: It is virtual property, they cant steal or vandalize I personally feel "why put that much effort into making it look neat if you don't want people to see it" I understand if people don't have the same viewpoints as I do regarding this, and fully respect it. But anyone exploring my home has to put up with whatever weird stuff is going on there.
  13. Now that I think about it, I am feeling pretty good. Despite the dumb stuff going on, it shows me how caring the community is(not that I didn't know already). I've received countless IMs regarding the information and everyone is just "Hey, just so you know x has posted your information", as well as on Facebook. I've not once gotten yelled by anyone blindly believing what some random person spams, only concerns from people, well wishes, and people informing me they have reported said person. I honestly could not ask for a better community. ❤️
  14. Honestly, I am feeling like this wish.com fursuit: it is very relatable mood right now because I am autism(yes really, no I am not making fun of it) and have no idea what the heck is going on anymore(not that I had any clue at what is going on in the first place. I am nervous yeen). Also considering just making a forum thread with "HERE IS MY INFORMATION YOU CAN SHUT UP NOW" because I honestly do not care if people have it(It is public information from my SL mailing list signature and my website's whois information), but not sure if the Lindens would be okay with that.
  15. I have no idea if I am a zoomer or a millennial(I am 1996-07-09 in YYYY/MM/DD format for reference). This is a tricky thing. Under normal circumstances, I'd ignore it as if it were just another meme, but it often has hateful rhetoric behind it, as those who tend to use the "ok boomer" are also those who have a burning desire for all "boomers" to die(Source: Twitter). My main problem with it is that people use it as a dismissive for any ideas that they don't like(EG: "Maybe you are asking for too much?") and refuse to listen, instead of explaining their side of the argument. I've been called boomer and by my age, I am quite clearly not. Not to say that "ok boomer" is the only dismissive thing these days. I've seen many people be dismissive because of age, gender, race, orientation, etc. In this day and age, a majority of people seem to have gotten to the point of just outright dismissing people and refusing to find a common ground or compromise with situations. Don't get me wrong here when I say this as it can seem I am saying "oh the left doesn't like to listen", the right doesn't either, and this is a major problem. I partially blame Twitter for this as the people use it as a major communication platform, despite it originally having a 128 character limit, which is now 256 characters. This basically crippled any conversations and tells people to respond with emojis or be dismissive because it discourages long conversations and thoughts, as stuff longer than that has to either be written out in multiple tweets(which is a pain to do), or be put in a image(which less people will read and wont show up in search). If we are to continue to strive as a species, we need to understand that "my way or no way" is not a option and we have to share this planet, else we have yet another genocide. (Not advocating it, just stating, this is where it typically leads when major politics turns to the "my way or no way" situation). People forget that there are about 7.8 billion people we have to share this space rock with, and each one of them has their own view points. There is no cookie cutter for humans, you will never find someone with exactly the same view points, there will always be one thing that is disagreed upon. I personally think that is pretty awesome at how the brain can be so unique like that. Another thing people forget, is it is ok to be friends with someone with different view points. You don't have to agree with everyone. I personally have more conservative leaning view points and I have quite a few liberal friends, and we get along just fine! The key is to understand that everyone has different view points and that is fine, but if you are truely their friend, don't force them to change. It is ok to explain your side if they are willing to listen, or have a constructive discussion on political view points, but don't make them change if they don't want to, and don't get mad if they don't agree. Here is a quote from Ellen DeGeneres regarding this: (Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSZtjol7mJA )
  16. Should make it so that intentional spamming results in removal of event posting privileges for the person and land group. :^)
  17. well... about that.... People for some reason just press "Yes" on stuff without reading it, which is why this I created a issue regarding it, and LL decided to accept: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-228237
  18. You can do this securely, however it comes at a cost. Basic idea of what you'd need to do: Have a button to "buy full version" on the hud Pop up a dialog explaining the debit permission, as well as a confirmation Request debit permissions Make payment through LLTransferLindenDollars Verify payment through transaction_result Send HTTP request to a server somewhere authenticating the payment Have the server send out a copy of the full version The cost: First and foremost, you have to get the resident to trust you with the debit permission, which is already big and scary message. Some people may take this as a scam and start spreading rumors. You also have to be able to have a server somewhere that can process transactions. If you are using something like caspervend, you might be able to set up a API, but I don't know if they do have a API. If the payment succeeds, but the authorization fails with your server, you cannot issue a refund because the debit permissions is with the resident, not you. So you will have a angry customer. You have to make sure that your script transfers no more than what the resident is told will be transferred, otherwise it can constitute as fraud, which LL is not friendly towards. Overall, I would say that this is more of a hassle than it is worth, especially if you do not have someone who is very familiar with handling LSL transactions and how to properly deal with them and make fail safes. My advice, just link them to the MP.
  19. It is possibly due to how SL splits vertices. While blender may say 15,000 vertices, any seams in the UVs, or non-uniform normals will cause a vertice split.
  20. I've had this happen before. This occurs because the ObjectUpdate representing the avatar was dropped. A simple fix is to change appearance, group tag, or just re-log. Technical explanation: Everything your viewer "sees" is created via a ObjectUpdate packet, even if it is new. ObjectUpdate can be read as a synonym for "ObjectCreate". If it doesn't exist, the viewer will create it. All ObjectUpdate packets contain enough information to create a object if it doesn't exist. ObjectUpdate contains everything you can see, such as object type(Avatars are a type of object), UUID, Local ID(similar to UUID, but it is a number, computers like smaller numbers), textures, position, rotation, scale, floating text, even avatar group tags! Physical objects, including avatars, are always simulated by the simulator, there is no physics engine on the viewer to "predict" physics, so the simulator has to send a lot of packets regarding the physical movement of objects. Sending a ObjectUpdate packet would be very wasteful(bandwidth wise) as it is basically re-sending the entire object data back to the viewer, so Linden Lab created a new packet called ImprovedTerseObjectUpdate. ImprovedTerseObjectUpdate contains only physical data about the objects physical information, specifically the following: Local ID, Is Avatar flag, Collision normal(if avatar), position, velocity, acceleration, rotation, and angular velocity. It also includes time delta so it knows how much to scale a object's speed based on how slow the simulator is running. This packet does not contain enough information to create a object. It just has a pointer to update the physical data. So in the scenario of "ghost avatars", the ObjectUpdate message to create the avatar never appeared to the viewer, however the ImprovedTerseObjectUpdate did. But because the object was never created, it doesn't know what to do with the ImprovedTerseObjectUpdate, so it just discards it. The only way for this to be fixed is if they do something to cause a ObjectUpdate message, such as changing their group tag, appearance, or similar. As for why you can still see their chat messages, chat is handled by ChatFromSimulator, which as long as the viewer receives it, it will process it, even if the Position value is out of range, the viewer just uses the position value for reference. The simulator decides if someone is in range or not. 21. Just going to leave this here https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quaker_(disambiguation)
  22. As much as I want the valve index, I personally am going to be waiting until the next generation for them to knock out the issues people have encountered (Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcsXVmwUPbw ) Overall, I hear great things about the index, but I am a poor yeen and barely was just able to upgrade my computer. Although the video I linked features a headset that is 10+ months of almost daily use, I personally don't want to risk it breaking. I assume next generation will feature re-enforced cable strain relief, better headset cushion(faux leather option maybe? Granted this is available via third parties), and better sealing on the paint for the handset. The risk of the cable strain relief breaking(even if it breaks only after 10+ months) is a deal breaker for me as it can disconnect the cable from the circuit board. The paint on the controllers rubbing off is sort of understandable, but I'd prefer it not to be an issue (This can be resolved by protective sleeves over the controllers). However the VR experience, as a HTC vive owner, is quite amazing. Even if second life, unfortunately, is not playable in VR yet. Overall, If you have the money, go for it! I head lots of good things about it such as reduced screen door effect(which as a HTC Vive owner, is noticeable, so any reduction is great). If you are really really tight on money(eg: like me who only has tiny amount of money from freelance jobs/house work/christmas/birthday money†), maybe wait until next generation. † NO I AM NOT A CHILD, I am autism and live with my parents and they like to give me money(??? or at least they never have complained?)
  23. I own a air purifier, they typically are nothing more than a fan with a special HEPA filter, and maybe a UVC bulb and ionizer. While my purifier is on the other side of my room near my bed, I would be pretty confident putting it next to my computer. The fan motor does not produce enough of a magnetic field, and it only contains a UVC bulb. However, if the fan contains a ionizer, I would be careful putting it next to a computer. There does not appear to be any solid evidence whether or not ionizers will cause issues with electronics, but people will argue both sides. I personally will er on the side of caution and not put a ionizer near sensitive electronics. The reason being, is ionizers will charge particles in the air with a negative electrostatic charge, which may or may not make stuff more susceptible to electrostatic discharge(The thing that you feel after rubbing your socks on carpet and touching someone). Computers do not like electrostatic discharge, which is why a lot of us in the IT industry will wear ESD/Grounding/Anti-static straps(basically grounds us to the computer, preventing a electrostatic discharge). With where your computer is relative to the fan, it is pretty far apart and should not cause any issues even if it had an ionizer. If you wish to move it closer, I'd say check to see if it has a ionizer, and if it doesn't, feel free to move it where you like. If it does have a ionizer, I'd be careful, but that is just me.
