  1. Ah yes, the good ol' "Any view that opposes me is fascistic views" followed by "Ban fascists". Fascists, nazi/neo-nazi, hate group, etc are dog whistles for the left-wing extremists to say "anyone who has opposing views" or "anyone who is right wing". They don't mean what they used to, they are just used to dehumanize the opponent. Which in turn, is fascism. All you are trying to do is divide the community and the country even further, as well as create more extremists that you can go "LOOK THEY ARE ANGRY" and try to deplatform even more people. Banning and deplatforming is not the answer. The more platforms you remove, the shadier places they have to go, and the people you keep deplatforming end up on extremists sites where they are further pushed to extremist views(both because of the echo chambers you are pushing them into, as well as them seeing you more and more of a enemy). Linden Lab already has a policy regarding intolerance. I think that is enough.
  2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denial-of-service_attack#Amplification This breaks Jedi Knights II because it may be 50 packets per second(depending on how fast they can scroll) for the attacker, but the server has to send out 50 * connectedPlayers, so a full server(32 was the limit IIRC?), that'd be 1,600 packets. Gold Source prevented this by introducing client side rate limiting via cl_cmdrate.
  3. Very very unlikely. Residential internet connections, at least a majority of them, are not good enough to launch a denial of service attack. Even then, you are more than likely to see a crasher attack from them than something as convoluted as a denial of service attack. What is actually happening is you are either experiencing Bad ISPisms(When your ISP claims "everything is good on our end" but it is broken for customers), or you have your bandwidth slider up too high. Just because this can go high, does not mean you should make it go as high as possible. Keep it at 1500Kbps or lower if your max download is lower. A lot of people seem to make this mistake thinking it is like a quality slider, but a lot of stuff in preferences is actually technical tweaks that can cause issues SL if not set properly for the specific hardware setup.
  4. Yee, people don't really seem to understand how specular mapping works. They either throw the ambient occlusion on instead of specular, turn the diffuse black/white, or if they got something from a models website they put it on there without fine tuning the settings. The glossiness, environment, and color all have to be changed, they can't just throw the specular map on and call it a day(On occasions if these settings are correct by default), otherwise everyone and everything looks like they just got out of a fresh vat of lube. I do find myself having to fine tune things I get after I purchase them, but in the end, it is well worth spending a little extra time fine tuning it to add realistic-ish lighting effects to my house.
  5. I wanted this because of the hostile activity in some threads, I even made a Jira issue for it, but it was rejected. So I made my own script. Since others seem to want this functionality, I shall share my script: https://gist.github.com/FelixWolf/c5a0f95e7c1e84ac73240fba9fe21001 Steps to install: Get a user scripts add-on. I recommend Tampermonkey: https://www.tampermonkey.net/ On the dashboard, click "Utilities" Paste this link in the "Install from URL" field: https://gist.githubusercontent.com/FelixWolf/c5a0f95e7c1e84ac73240fba9fe21001/raw/slforums_thread_blocker.js Usage: You should now have this at the top of the page near search: If you wish to unblock a thread, you have to toggle this and unblock it that way. To block a thread, there is a icon under the Thread title, click it and it will go poof: Uninstall: If you decide you don't want it anymore, click the "Delete" button in the Tampermonkey dashboard. This may vary if you are using a different user scripts add-on. Safety: This script does not transmit anything to any servers. Everything is stored on the client in two localStorage variables. The two variables are called "showBlocked" (remembers if you have show blocked threads enabled), and "blockedThreads" (An array containing thread IDs). These are like cookies but for javascript. You can review the code in it's highlighted and commented form at https://gist.github.com/FelixWolf/c5a0f95e7c1e84ac73240fba9fe21001. This is synchronized with the raw URL, so I cannot sneak anything into it. You can even view changes here: https://gist.github.com/FelixWolf/c5a0f95e7c1e84ac73240fba9fe21001/revisions Bugs: This is a user modification, similar to my marketplace modifications, as such, Linden Lab assist you with this! Treat it like a Third Party Viewer. If you need assistance or would like to report a bug, please contact me on the forums or in-world. Remember to uninstall or disable the user script before contacting LL regarding any bugs with the forums. Don't send them on a wild goose chase because my script somehow broke something. Stuff I haven't gotten around to but might since people other than me wanted this(AKA: To do): Make "Block thread" button less tacky and stand out more. Probably place it somewhere that they don't just look scattered all over the place and more uniform and in-line. Probably can make it more efficient, specifically by making the blockedThreads variable a global, instead of a local in multiple functions, but tampermonkey gets upset if it isn't done in a specific way. Maybe this is a good thing, if localStorage is works how I think it does, it means it works cross-tab without overwriting the other tab's blocks! Code can be cleaned up a little, specifically with how threads are detected if they are blocked or not.
  6. Well, there is mosh south with was supposed to be a mall but never got used. Not to be confused with regular Mosh which currently has overpriced parcels for sale on it. Mosh South currently has voice enabled, it isn't used as a safe hub(at least to my knowledge), and has plenty of seating.
  7. Personally I am not a fan of disabling voice, but I completely understand it when there are various people who ban evade, come back, and do the same stuff that caused them to get banned in the first place. This stuff started out in safe hubs, noticeably for me in the Zindra safe hubs. I personally didn't mind it as I am a anti-censorship/pro-free speech person (Not saying that what LL is doing is censorship, just that is my position on stuff), when I was raised, I was taught if someone said something you didn't like, just ignore them, problem solved. However when there are new people getting sent to Safe hubs for various reasons(downed regions, etc), and they hear the hateful/controversial stuff that goes on in discussions from those people, it is probably best to just keep voice disabled in safe hubs. A nice side effect is it stopped them from bringing random objects in and decorating the safe hubs as if it were theirs. However, it has become quite a bit of a cat and mouse game, and may in turn be causing more issues for residents than before. They went to Nelsonia, then Arapaima, then Oritz. From Oritz since it is a multi region build, they went east to Gilda(other part of the safe hub), and then Leonards Field where they stayed for quite a while causing a bit of issues with a person who owns a parcel there. Now they sit in Gianno waiting for yet another voice disable when they irritate another land owner. The whole moving them out of safe hubs and (indirectly) towards land people are paying can be arguably a worse situation than having them in a safe hub where people can just TP out of. Whenever LL disables voice in one parcel, and they just move again. This will result in every Linden owned parcel in Zindra having voice disabled, which is an idea that I am not a fan of. While I understand that it is a difficult situation to deal with ban evaders, I don't think disabling voice leaving a large trail of no voice parcels is the best solution. Unfortunately while I believe that, it also appears to be the only solution. It isn't like they can just have someone from governance sit there and babysit them all day, and having some sort of automated detection isn't possible either. I should clarify that not all of them cause problems, but there are a few obvious "cause problems" accounts that are new accounts. And I am certain a few older accounts have gotten suspended briefly. I've sat around listening to the conversations that go on in the public voice crowd and they get a bit spicy.
  8. The two big ones I celebrate are Christmas (Despite being agnostic atheist, I was raised christian, and my family also celebrates it. It's still part of my heritage.) and Halloween. Christmas I decorate Quiddity and my house parcel. I may put on a Santa hat as it gets closer to Christmas. Halloween I also decorate Quiddity, but often skip my parcel. I often will use my more spooky avatars more than I usually do. Spooky month is my favourite. The most I do for Thanksgiving is Pilgrim hat and maybe a pumpkin here or there. I've wanted to get into New Years, but finding people who'd want to celebrate new years with my poor decorating skills and "totally not stolen from new york ball" is Abit difficult. Forth of July suffers the same problem as new years. And Easter has a whole different thing of "gotta find something to give away". I can't think of any other holidays that I celebrate.
  9. This is Second Life, not Red Light Center. Second Life is a social platform, not specifically a dating/e-sex platform.
  10. Hello! Please keep in mind that the forums are primarily populated by Residents. You are unlikely to find a Linden respond here except on rare occasions. For official support, please see https://support.secondlife.com/contact-support/ For voice morphs, you will need to go to the Premium Voice Morphs island, you can find this here: https://secondlife.com/destination/voice-morphing-premium For the land, I have no experience with being charged for land. Perhaps it is the day the billing date was set, and not specifically for the land.
  11. I use yeen, yeener, etc, all the time. Even if it was, stuff like that doesn't offend me. I've even been considering setting my forum title to "Designated yeen". this has been done.
  12. Sort of. I didn't have a definitive decision on what species my character was before joining SL. However I finally decided on Hyena about 5 or so years ago. SL wasn't necessarily reason why I decided on that though. Until I have a Hyena avatar, I am mostly using a sabercat which I use as mountain lion(or cougar, puma, panther, etc. Same animal, different names) avatar. However, I have a boat load of avatars, so if you'd like to take a look: https://tinyurl.com/chaserzaksavatars (Please excuse the tinyurl link. Not sure if LL fixed the issue with my domain name yet.) Of those, I primarily use: Sabercat, Imp("Cat" like imp), Ghoul(dog like ghoul), Inca-ren(Fluffy alien thing). Yes, both my primary and secondary bot account(Saltyalt Resident) have furry avatars. Nope, I pick which avatar I use based solely off own opinion, sometimes discovery of a animal I haven't seen before and think is neat, such as a Fossa. I will say that I base my avatar highly upon myself, such as height, weight(when applicable), eye colour(occasionally), and hair colour(when applicable). Honestly I never thought of this before, but now that I think about it, I'd say yes. I'd find using a animal avatar easier than a human because I have less worry of having to make it look nice, because I can just make it look like animal and am done. With human avatars, I have to worry about lots of different styles. Granted clothing styles would also apply to furry avatars, but it just seems a bit easier for a furry avatar. Nope, agnostic atheist(Meaning, I don't who is right, so I'll sit around until some solid proof comes along in regards to existence or non-existence). However, I do know that some have chosen their fursona based off spiritual reasons. I do remember that there was a thread on a furry site in regards to "Why did you choose your fursona?", where a Native American guy said he had chose his fursona as a bear because of a spiritual journey of sorts(I can't remember what he said it was called, but it is apparently a tradition thing). I'm not too familiar with Native American culture, but that is from what I recall reading in the thread. Perhaps someone here will know what it is called(if there isn't multiple similar things and my remembering isn't too vague). While I would consider getting or making a fursuit, and perhaps partaking in conventions, I have severe germaphobia, so that'd be out of the question, at least for now. Perhaps in the future I would consider getting a fursuit. However I only would represent as a furry where appropriate. While it is part of my personality, I know that there is the issue of making people uncomfortable and just being out of place in scenarios. That being said, I wouldn't represent as a furry IRL on a regular basis.
  13. My plans: I typically don't do much for holidays. Most my family does for thanks giving is BIG FOOD, and for Christmas, we put up tree and decorate interior/exterior a little, but also BIG FOOD, and then we have New Years which we have BIG FOOD. Used to do Christmas with extended family at my Grandma's, We still do somewhat, but I don't go. It is mostly a drama fest because someone(mostly one specific person but occasionally anyone): Ignored the gift giving rule, we set up who is exchanging gifts, but someone will be like "im going to get gifts for everyone" then get upset when they don't get gifts from everyone. Upset because of who is helping cook Upset for the purpose of being upset Lying to start drama Christmas isn't going how they envisioned so they must make everyone else miserable
  14. I've avoided this thread because of the hostility and partisan **** flinging in it, and I will still continue to do so if it starts again, but I will say this: If Biden is officially(I.E. Not via sources such as the news who wish they were the government) confirmed as the President, unlike how people were with Trump, I am willing to give him a chance, but only one. People can say they didn't give Trump a chance because of various reasons such as "what he had said before being confirmed" or promised during campaign, and I am not going to argue about what he has said because it will end up with me talking to brick walls. My point is, I highly disapprove of Biden because of various things he has said, not only before his campaign, but various campaign promises. So regardless of what either candidate has said in the past, both look equally bad in the sides of the opposing party. So don't start arguing with me about "but trump said x", I could bring up a lot of stuff Biden said and it will be shrugged off as "oh that's nothing", so arguing about that is pointless and will go no where because both sides will see what each favorable candidate said that opposing side sees as bad, as "nothing". All this will do is just have me ignore whatever you have to say. If you want to debate with me(Not argue), do so on this: My primary concerns regarding Biden are censorship, """"equal"""" rights via inequal laws, law enforcement, and potential economy destroying ideas. But if he says he is willing to work in a bipartisan manor, I will give him a chance to try and work with both sides to find a middle ground. I do not have high trust or hopes in him, but who knows, maybe I am wrong, maybe he can prove me wrong. I'd also like to see him actually want investigation in possible election fraud. I am not saying it is true, but I'm not saying it is false. The flip flop of "Russia hacked the election" in 2016, to suddenly "The election cannot be hacked/cheated/etc", raises suspicion to me. In the event that there is accusations of election fraud, both parties should be interested in having it investigated, and not to shrug it off. The accusation of Russia hacking the election is as much of a concern to me as the accusations of election fraud. If our election system is possibly compromised and no one wants to look into it, then why even vote in the first place?
  15. The same reason uneducated creators: Pushed for [REDACTED] to be removed as a feature Put their appliers behind pay walls Add "encryption" to appliers Think appliers are easier than adding textures via the build floater Create creator exclusive programs where only the elite can create skins for their products Add a script that deletes the product if you rez it on the ground Refuse to provide demos I could keep going on and on, but you get the point That reason: False sense of security. These are the same people who believe that clearing the cache is the answer to every problem, and that "you need to use x viewer for my product to work!" or "you need to set your LOD to 4, 5, maybe even 6 for my product to work!". Despite the many pleas from people who know what they are doing, how the viewer works, and how Second Life works, they live in their little bubble of "I know more than the people who make Second Life work!", and then scream at you when you explain how stuff really works saying "WELL NOW EVERYONE KNOWS HOW TO COPYBOT MY STUFF MUTED AND BANNED!". My advice: Do not buy from these people, if they refuse to listen or understand the basics of how stuff works, they are not worth paying money to and dealing with their broken products. Paying them only encourages them to be ignorant. Just to upset said people, here is the truth to each thing I said above: Pushed for [REDACTED] to be removed as a feature Their reasoning: People will steal textures. The truth: People who want to steal textures will just use a copybot viewer to do that, not [REDACTED] which results in very bad blurry images. Put their appliers behind pay walls their reasoning: It prevents people from making illegal skins the truth: It stops people from making any skins, and also greed Adding encryption to appliers Their reasoning: It stops people from seeing UUIDs The truth: Encryption is a waste of time, not only is the channel already going to be unknown, but as soon as the viewer sees the texture, people with copybot viewers can see the UUID. Most "encryptions" use XOR which is notoriously easy to break. I even have a tool specifically for breaking XOR encryptions. Think appliers are easier than adding textures via the build floater Their reasoning: it is easier. The truth: Not always, if I have to rez out an applier each time I want to change the texture, especially if I am using local textures while editing, it most certainly is not easier. Creator exclusive programs Their reasoning: Ensures that people who copybot stuff won't be able to sell copybot stuff. The truth: Ensures that people who want to make stuff won't be able to make stuff, and also greed. Add a script that deletes the product if you rez it on the ground Their reasoning: If something is rezzed on the ground, it is easier to copybot. The truth: If something is visible to the viewer, be it rezzed, worn, or even attached to the hud, a copybot viewer can copy it. Refuse to provide demos Their reasoning: People will copybot the demo. The truth: People won't buy their product. And the magnum opus: No mod on products Their reasoning: No mod makes it so that people can't copybot it. The truth: If the viewer sees it, a copybot can grab it. No mod is only used as a greed tactic to control who makes stuff for their product. Even if it is rigged mesh, I still like to be able to use custom textures or adjust the color to match my avatar better. Maybe I want to put a script in it so that I can automatically adjust it depending on what I am wearing. NO MOD ONLY MAKES SENSE in a few scenarios, such as if you are using no-mod on a demo, sometimes gachas, redemption tokens/some sort of thing that can activate or buy a product, or trying to prevent people from cheating in a game. No mod is a plague upon Second Life. tl;dr: Dumb people who think they are smart but are actually dumb and refuse to learn. If said people get offended by this, sorry, not sorry. When you decide to learn and stop being hostile towards others, I'll be nice back.
  16. This is currently not possible, chat bubbles are hard coded to be 24 seconds. However, you are more than welcome to request this feature at: https://jira.firestormviewer.org/ This might be possible. See the Chat > Visuals > "Show typing indicator in nametag above avatar". This may achieve the effect you desire. If not, please do feel free to submit a feature request at: https://jira.firestormviewer.org/ Unfortunately there is no way to distinguish between a gesture and regular chat, as chat from gestures is sent using the same message info as chat as if a resident has typed it out. You'll have to go to Linden Lab with this feature request: https://jira.secondlife.com/ Yes, but this would require modifications to the XUI, and I don't think we support modified XUI elements in support, and if done incorrectly, can make the viewer crash because of parsing errors. Again, you are more than welcome to request this feature at https://jira.firestormviewer.org/ I'd recommend using the chat bar as command line feature which allows you to type out the desired draw distance(EG: dd 128, dd 64, dd 1024, etc): https://wiki.firestormviewer.org/video_cmdline Or by using the quick preferences: https://wiki.firestormviewer.org/fs_quick_preferences
  17. The way it is designed is like the reddit and various other forums implement spoilers, the idea is you select the text. Unfortunately doesn't work on mobile, but it is better than nothing.
  18. My domain is in the blacklist keyword right now because of the spammer guy on the forums. Currently asking LL to unblacklist it because I have stuff on there specifically for SL, and I am unable to use it/share it with others.
  19. Words(or multiple word names) that make no sense, for example, "Super Natural". This implies that something is very natural. The word should be something like anti-natural, or just unnatural. Also people who think their way of thinking is correct and if anyone says otherwise they are wrong and evil, while in reality, thinking is subjective. While there may be some correct ways of thinking(EG: 2 + 2 equals 4, but 2 + 2 does not equal fish, though in a way, math is man made and we can make it equal whatever we want), people are just becoming brick walls and refusing to listen to each other, then complain about others not listening to them. I just want to sit around, and eat glue, not be told that "you cant eat glue thats bad". I'll eat what I want, doesn't make me correct, but at least I acknowledge that I may not be correct. (Last bit about eating glue is a humorous take on the situation. I don't actually want to eat glue.)
  20. For me, I use voice only when others are using voice, and that being, when they are talking with me, not just because they are talking. I think this goes for a good deal of people as well. So as a result, most people just use text chat because no one wants to be the one to initiate using voice chat, due to no one else using it or being sure if others will use it. I've seen a few times where a few people just always use voice, other times, I've had my friends start using voice and then I got on. I personally don't like using it with big crowds of strangers though because I do have a lisp and worry that it will get on someone's nerves. BUT when I am with friends, I don't worry they will get annoyed because they know I am weird, or if I am in a region I moderate, I can just go "ya well i am moderator so go eat a wild corndog", and spam the forward, backwards, and crouch key while saying it. :^) Another issue with me using voice is I am very easy to talk over because I am quiet and also silence myself whenever someone else starts speaking.
  21. Second Life is subject to VAT and GST. What you are seeing is likely a 20% VAT/GST being applied, plus the transaction fee from the bank or credit company. In AUD, the transaction costs 136.12 AUD, with 13.61 AUD in GST. That'd leave 6.98 AUD transaction fee from the bank or credit company. The reason it shows as 100.49 instead of 99.00 is likely due to a 1.49 some tax or transaction fee that LL is seeing. It is important to note that prices on the Invoice are shown in two different currencies. The "LindeX Currency Buy" and "Total now due in $" are shown in USD, while the total now due is shown in AUD. (My math may be a bit fuzzy here, because I considered the 1.49 after the GST and banking fee math)
  22. You will not be able to see transaction history past the last three months because from what I understand, Linden Lab purges the transaction history older than a specific time period. However, there are still ways to figure out how much you may have spent: Marketplace transactions are not purged due to it being relied upon by the re-delivery code: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/orders In-world transactions are typically logged to near-by chat, you may be able to open your chat.txt and locate some area near black friday. Consider to start doing end of the month backups of the transaction history. Consider it like taxes but less tedious! It is actually a premium perk to be able to see more transaction history, regular members can only see the past month, while premium can see the past 3 months. It is possible that in the future that transaction history may be extended even further with Premium Plus, but there is no guarantee.
