  1. The way I add spoilers is like so: This is a spoiler (Select to reveal) Here is the tool I made for it: https://felix.softhyena.com/tools/spoiler_generator.htm
  2. Apparently IPB will not let me embed videos(sad), oh well. Here is a link (for sound) instead: https://webm.red/zoQB
  3. Here is one of my kitties. He likes to watch his food be made.
  4. I very much like Autumn because: My body, for some reason, is really hard to cool down, to the point even during winter I am wearing summer clothes and have a fan on medium. Halloween. I like spoopy. It is when the bugs begin to go away. Not that I am scared of them, more of just, I am mysophobic and I don't want them landing on me otherwise I have to go up and wash where it was. Thanks giving food. My second favorite would be Winter because: Christmas food. Snow. Even though I don't go outdoors because of mysophobia reasons, it is still nice to look at. Provided people haven't worn me out with the out of season Christmasing, Christmas is quite nice and cozy. New years food. Spring and Summer are ok, but that is when it begins to heat up and becomes uncomfortable for me. Even if I wasn't mysophobic, I'd still probably go to the beach on a colder day such as near the beginning of Autumn or somewhere near the beginning of Spring. Plus Autumn brings good harvest.
  5. My first/second account had gone un-logged into for over 7 years, and I have an account as of recently that have been inactive for at least a year. Linden Lab doesn't close accounts that are inactivity unless said accounts are in a delinquent state(owe money), the account gets caught in the automatic fraud prevention system, or have had their account stolen. In which case, they may request for it be re-activated by submitting an appeal to support. While the Terms of Service states in section 3.1 and 3.4 that Linden Lab may, although a rare occurrence, reclaim any Land and Linden Dollars on an account that "ceases to maintain an active Account", there is no mention that Linden Lab will terminate an account that has remained inactive for a period of time. I have never heard or read anything regarding closing accounts that are inactive in the Linden Lab or Second Life legal documents/user agreements for as long as I have been keeping updated on the Terms of Service. To help drive this home, this would go against LL's promise on the Delete Account page that states residents do not need to delete their account as "Second Life name, friends, avatar, and inventory" will be retained for those who "wish to take a break and return in the future".
  6. I have 5 that are "active", 3 accounts that are registered as bots, 1 account that I primarily use, and 8 accounts in total. No idea how many that are deactivated. More specifically... I have 5 accounts which I would consider used on regular basis: Chaser Zaks - My main account. I don't typically log off on this account. Saltyalt - My bot husbando account. This bot doesn't log off. AutomatedTests - Bot that runs nightly to perform some grid health checks. Stays online for like 10 to 15 minutes before disconnecting. ChaserTester - My account I use specifically for testing issues on the Jira. My "nervous exploration" account that I use to go "test the waters"(so to speak) of a region before I go there with my main. This is because autism and I'm want to read through the rules and what not, figure out what the culture of a region is, etc. Also used to test and unpack suspicious items. I have 3 account that are dormant/unused(I consider a account unused if I log into said account one or less times per 60 day period): Softhyena - My "business" bot account that doesn't do much. Until I stop being lazy and create some stuff, this account is going to stay inactive. My first account - Sentimental value. My second account - Has some old historical stuff on it that I need to copy over. I have had at quite a few that I have deactivated: One I made to test the deactivation for a bug report. One I typo'd the name on, figured I'd just go ahead and delete it to avoid confusion. I had to make several when testing a registration bug. I should note that when I make a testing account, I specifically follow a naming scheme of "ChaserZaksTestYYYYMMDDII"(II being Iteration) to avoid taking up names people might actually want. But keep in mind, I am one of the weirdos who does a lot of testing and documentation on SL, so I have more accounts than most people would probably have. A majority of my friends has about 1 to 4 accounts. Most of SL's population will have only 1 or 2 accounts, if I had to take a guess, probably a good 40% have one account, with 30% having 2, the remaining 30% having 3 or more. Commercial bot operators will have quite a few accounts because of the group limit, or if someone has bought a vanity name bot.
  7. So I posted last night something I hoped would calm the situation down, apparently it did not. While I am all for including everyone, the hard truth is, it simply isn't possible. That'd mean LL would have to tailor a avatar for every single person who joins, because what people count as identity could be as simple as race and gender, but can also include various other things as well. For example, I have various disabilities and a deformity. To be specific(I am NOT seeking pity points or "so powerful" points. I own these, they are me, but they do not make me any different than anyone else and do not deserve praise): I am Autistic, more specifically Aspergers. This cannot be visually represented. I have pectus excavatum, this isn't represented by a slider and would need a custom mesh. I have super pale skin because I don't go outside because of severe germaphobia. While there are super pale skinned avatars, I could easily adjust this via skin tone sliders, even on the default avatars. I am 5'8", which is under-represented in this world of giants, resulting in me being called a child avatar sometimes. All these avatars are giant. I am slightly overweight. There do not appear to be any slightly overweight avatars. While I can speak for the above, here are some more things that are not me that can also be represented: Physical handicaps. Wheelchairs/crutches/etc, Lost or artificial limbs. There are none of these in the default avatar selection. Age. There are only two old people in the avatar selection. Considering 16 is the minimum age requirement, teens could also be more represented. Fashion sense. This is as much as a identity as anything else because it speaks about who the person is. Fashion is tied to the avatar, so we have to either pick the avatar or pick the fashion. The way one holds themself(I think that is the term?). I don't move much, but I know some people move themselves around a lot. There are no default AOs in the current starter avatars from what I recall. The list can go on, what some may see as a choice can also be a identity, and visa versa. Now, while some of those cannot be represented, most of which can be adjusted via the appearance slider or through picking attachments once in world. The starter avatars are intended to get people started. There is no sense in providing 1,000 different choices with 100,000 different combinations for something that someone will very likely change shortly down the line. If we really want to stretch, some people prefer their online identity as anime, furry, feral, etc. The only furry avatar is the werewolf, and there are no anime or feral avatars. Personally, for me, the online me is quite different than the RL me(idc at this point everyone has seen me by now, also too lazy to green screen): SL Me RL Me Very soft and fuzzy 5'8" dumb No copy/Mod/No trans can't dox a pixel hahaha CAN'T WEAR GLASSES EASILY Very pale and oily 5'8" also dumb No copy/No mod/No trans doxxed can wear glasses easily I can understand why some may want more choices that would more match themselves when registering, but I think it may be more important to teach people customize their avatar to be their self.
  8. The choice on the sign up page was removed in favor of the "Choose an Avatar" floater that appears when first launching the viewer. I believe this change was made to better allow people to preview the avatar choices in-world. You will probably not see this floater if you are making a alternative account, as the "First launch" flag is set to False. The current sign-up implementation appears to give people a random avatar from the pool of avatars where the gender of the random avatar matches the Resident's choice upon sign up. This is the current pool of avatars as of October 2020:
  9. Oh, I was referring to the mall in Mosh South, which doubled as the adult welcome area(which is also no longer used). The area north of that is the mall that is used. They never opened the mall south of it, despite setting up parcels and everything: Honestly, it could be set up as yet another safe hub. Never can have enough safe hubs, especially during rolling restarts.
  10. Safe hubs are not necessarily hang outs, but more of a "drop you here in the event the region you were in is no longer available", which provides residents with a "safe" area to log into without worry of violating rules because of how they are currently dressed. Voice was turned off due to often disruptive content that upset residents. If you want to hang out on mainland with voice, consider using one of the designated hang out spots on mainland. Knowing that a majority of people hung out in Zindra safe hubs, here is some Zindra hangout spots (Also because I only often visit Zindra and know all the locations there): Kama City Municipal Park("Maze", Football, and outdoor dining) - http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Bronlen/125/108/2 Kama City Civic Center - http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Kama Center/126/89/2 Ursula Bay Light house/dock - http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Popke Tal/115/30/2 South Fish Dam - http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Terri/211/207/1101 Zindra mall (Unused/Abandoned safe hub like area) - http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Mosh South/128/179/25 North Hydro-electric reservoir(A bit noisy) - http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Pengallen Bridge/217/240/23 Horizons Despina - http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Horizons Despina/129/129/23 Horizons Themis - http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Horizons Themis/128/123/23 Mole Mayday Monument - http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Pengallen Bridge/145/85/2 Although not intended for being a hang out, there is also this unused region: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Marafi/149/137/64 And people seem to have moved here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Gilda/205/2/64 There is also this dimple of land that is slightly underwater: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Zindra Ocean/167/211/64
  11. Personally, I am not a big fan of Amazon. I couldn't care less about "the cloud" because it is just the buzz word for virtual private server. I fully agree, Amazon is *****ty, but what are we to do? Corporate monopolies make it so that alternatives don't stand a chance, so the only other cloud solution for something as big as Second Life is Google who is arguably more *****ty. Hosting Second Life on premesis isn't practical these days when you can just have instances moved around when a server breaks, and let someone else deal with maintenance. It is like operating systems, you can use Windows, Mac, or Linux. All of which are corporate controlled to shove agendas down people's throats and remove those they deem impure, less than human, etc. I had switched to Linux to avoid it, but you can't stop corporations from trying to control the world. I'd switch to another OS, but which? I could use the herd kernel with debian port, but no one gets money to speed development along. TempleOS, while based, is really just a hobby. Corporates will not stop until they own everything and make sure no one else can rise to the top. I've dwelled on this very thing for years now, but I found hope in clown. The world is a circus and the universe is a giant cosmic joke. Embrace the clown and make everything funny.
  12. My opinion on Discord is mixed. Pros: It is relatively easy to use. Most of my friends use it. Easy to connect with communities you are in. The cons: It has become a chat monopoly. Get banned? Say goodbye to your communication with your friends. Discord has fascist administration(Not server admins, but the actual people behind Discord). You will get banned if they find out you have the "wrong" opinion(I.E. anything that goes against their opinions). All it takes is one report to your account and you'll be banned. Discord is used to push political agenda by it's company. Be prepared to see political agenda notifications via the announcement bar or in the update logs. As for connecting with SL Communities: Again, mixed. I like it because it is easy to connect with the community, share WIPs for mods, ask for support with the community, etc. But it also brings out the worst in the communities. A creator that I had long looked up to turned out to be a racist(even though I tried to tell myself "nah that can't possibly be". Hard to accept people you look up to aren't as they seem to be sometimes.), so also be prepared for to see people's true colors. Overall: Discord is a mixed bag as in it is the only place for this type of communication these days because anyone who is anyone is on Discord, but Discord can take that away with the snap of a finger because wrong opinion.
  13. The marketplace is currently experiencing some issues. Linden Lab is investigating it right now. Please keep an eye on the status page for more information: https://status.secondlifegrid.net/
  14. I presume there is some sort of internal smoke tests they have to do to confirm the issue is genuinely on their end before updating the status page. They seem to have updated the status page just now: https://status.secondlifegrid.net/incidents/bntfy597f1hb
  15. yee that's what confused me, BUT they apparently are.
  16. Just talked with support about it, they are apparently performing maintenance on it right now. Related bug: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-229434
  17. Neil Cicierega's new album For those unaware of Neil, he is the guy behind "The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny" (As Lemon Demon), "Brody-quest", and Potter Puppet Pals.
  18. LL isn't going to force everyone to buy premium in order to log in, non-premium members buying/selling L$, as well as non-premium MP purchases are a big portion of their in-come. Speaking from purely a business POV, free members is a good deal because it allows people to get into SL without the constraints of a trial, and even without premium, they bring in money. I have a list of things considered for premium perks, but I am not sure if LL wants me to let the cat out of the bag on that, especially because they are not set in stone yet. I'll tell you this: Premium plus looks promising, and doesn't look like it will be taking anything away from non-premium members(LL learned this the hard way when there was forum riots regarding group limits), let alone make free members a thing of the past.
