  1. *Whispers*If you’re wearing mesh, you often Rez naked before your clothes pop on to other people. Don’t tell anyone, Kay?
  2. Should get back into it. I recently got back into it and I’m having a blast! So many new shiny programs to play around with. You know you want to. Admit it!
  3. There used to be a time when people would ask you what you’re wearing. It was a good conversation starter. Now there’s a hud that just tells you everything the person is wearing, no need to talk to the person at all. Get that being social outta here! It’s just how SL is. I’m with everybody else though just take it as a compliment, not much else you can do besides continue being trying to be unique and individual.
  4. Sintilika is also pretty realistic looking.
  5. To me this is really simple: it’s because the average SL user has no interest in buying mod clothes. It’s pretty much, what you see is what you get. In other words, they’re alright with it being no mod. As far as other products, houses, some furniture, vehicles, etc most of them are mod to some extent with tinting and scripts. I bought a new house last week, modded the crap out of it. Kind of expected to be able to mod it when I bought it. Clothes are a little different. I don’t expect them to be mod unless it’s a template. I’m good with them not being mod. If you want to get technical, it’s because the market bears certain items being no mod. If it didn’t, creators would definitely make more items moddable.
  6. It may be the shine that is optional on Maitreya. It’s a pretty good shine tbh, you really don’t need a skin with a shine at this point because most mesh bodies do it for you and it looks better IMO. The crash also may have broken your hud. Try turning off the shine through the hud first. If that doesn’t work redelivering the body and try it again.
  7. I checked and the hairbase is omega compatible. I knew it was something omega. Also the skins are discounted at 99L.
  8. Fiore is now selling her old static mesh heads for 0L and her Alura bento head (which is no longer being supported) for 500L. The Alura has a very nice appearance, but it can be a little glitchy. I’m pretty sure it’s omega compatible too. Just don’t expect Catwa quality, she stopped working on it because she had a baby. So, yeah...just to add to the freebie head list. There you go.

  10. Couple of things here. You absolutely can get dev kits for some bodies with no problem: eBody and Tonic (even sking, yeah I know)come to mind. Those creators wisely made those kits available for everyone. Sure you won’t be designing for the big three, but it’s enough to get your foot in the door as far as modeling, rigging, texturing a usable product. As your skills develop and you have your store, you can eventually get your kits for the big three. Most of them have a requirement that you have a store, which to me is like an entry level job requiring that you have 5 years experience. That’s just me though. Marvelous Designer is a good tool to use. You absolutely have to retopo the mesh when you import it into blender though. That’s going to tack a half hour to an hour+ back on the time you saved using it to begin with. The later versions have a quad function. Version 8 is supposed to have a better quad function of all, but I haven’t messed with that one yet. Definitely start with the kits you can get first though. There are more than enough to get you started.
  11. The numbers from Steam aren’t really indicative of anything. It’s a platform for primarily games and as it’s been repeated many times “SL is nert a gaem!!!” That also goes for Sansar so people aren’t going to be on steam looking for something like Sansar they’re going to be looking for things like Black Desert or Warframe. I know you can get other applications, heck I got substance painter off of there. I’m guessing the true purpose of putting Sansar on Steam was to get Sansar some more exposure, probably for potential content developers. Well mission accomplished? If the purpose of Sansar is to be like the unity engine of VR, well then Sansar is the Gorilla glass of VR. A good idea but no real practical use until some point in the future. Companies are pushing VR hard. I saw VR headsets for sale in a drug store the other day. It’s mainstream use still is in doubt though. The way companies are pushing them it looks like they will see mainstream use in the near future as the price drops. Which leads me to SL. SL still has yet to tap into mobile devices which seems a much likely future outcome than VR. IMVU has been taking advantage of mobile and I’m pretty sure they have higher concurrent users than SL probably due to mobile devices. But how mobile devices are now? The progression from mobile devices is going to be AR. That’s something people are more likely to go for and use daily than VR. I don’t quite see how SL fits into AR yet. Maybe LL will make a working version of a more streamlined SL that you can use on mobile devices. Regardless of whether they do that by SL’s 20th anniversary a SL2 should probably be in the works using what they’ve learned from Sansar and SL.
  12. Ceka, have you tried Itgirls? Her dark skins get pretty dark starting from Mel (Honey) and there are two darker than that. Cocoa and something else.
  13. The main reason I don’t wear a Maitreya are the brolic looking shoulders. So it’s not just you OP.
  14. *starts laughing maniacally* 25,000? Awe, sweetie, you just don't know. This is my second account and I have triple that.
  15. Oooooh, you know that’s not how things work around here!
  16. Yeah, it takes about 2 minutes for a creator to take a uuid and make a system skin and most of them have a redelivery system where they can send out updates. If they don’t, I’m sure someone will make a converter anyway to put applier stuff on a BoM body. I can definitely see that being a thing too.
  17. I joined in 2009/early 2010. Orientation island: I blew through that and ended up at that freebie pyramid place. I decked myself out with all the freebie noob stuff I wanted. I asked a couple of people where to go. Tp’d to Redgrave and realized I looked like crap. I figured out I needed new skin and hair and AO and had no idea where to go. So I stayed in Redgrave just asking people for help. Eventually a group gave me a folder full of skins, shapes and hair and told me to play with that until I found myself. Next best memory from back then: I discovered Greedy and gambling sims. First game of greedy ever, no idea what I was doing, won 12,000L$. Bought a skin that cost, 2500Ls that looked worse than even the starter skins because the ad had a picture of Beyoncé on it. The skin looked nothing like Beyoncé. Next favorite memory, getting told I still looked like crap. Getting a makeover to look “right”, given more free stuff and a collar. “All the girls wear them.” Promptly got owned, literally...took me a while to figure out how to get out of the collar. Used to hang out at a club called Bootylicious where we used to crack jokes on each other on mic all day. It was something magical about those times.
  18. Not really. Here’s why: most of the time something gets rolled out, there’s what I call lag time. That is when something comes out, there’s a few products that take advantage of it, of varying quality and the rest still keep chugging along for a while then eventually adapt and some update older items eventually. Fitmesh: that was kind of big. Creators adapted pretty quickly. This might be the only one where I bought only fitmesh when it came out. Bento: It was nice but it wasn’t like I had to have bento stuff. Since I’m a Belleza wearer, I had to suffer through having to wearing Slink and vista hands until they actually came out with bento hands. A lot of people jumped ship because of that, so I know a creator can suffer if they don’t adapt fast enough. Some creators did go back and retrofit some Belleza rings, nails, etc so it wasn’t that bad. BoM: As big of a deal as it seems, I’m finding a lot of people don’t know what it is or really care about it. So for something like the skin fair that opened today I wouldn’t be surprised if anybody did anything BoM related. None of the bodies I have, have put out a BoM version yet. Only lelutka has put out a BoM head so far. Personally, I don’t think people are going to rush to adopt it because it’s going to render a lot of skin related items unusable, at least for a little while. Then there will be a gradual roll out. More head and body makers will put out a BoM update. Then skin, makeup, and tattoo makers will put out updates. Animesh is kind of on bento level. It’s not a deal breaker, it’s mainly for Knick-knacks and doodads. Those will only improve as time goes on, so it’s probably better to just wait until something you really want comes out. So all that to say usually a lot has to happen for the full effect of rollouts to be felt. So something being on the horizon isn’t necessarily going to make me need it now. Let the creators play around with it and come out with it when it’s good to go.
  19. Hm let’s see a book written in 2011, is more likely inspired by a platform that came into being in 2013 and 2017? Time travel is awesome!
  20. Ten seconds into a google search says otherwise (and no not the SL bloggers).
