  1. Unfortunately there are not many positions like this Inworld. More often than not for Shops, management duties fall on the shoulders of the Shop Owner. They tend to deal with customer service and interaction, or setup their inworld stores to automatically solve these problems (Demos, Redelivery, Info Notecards, etc). Also worth noting, the trend recently has been more sales on marketplace than via inworld stores, so justifying a paid shop manager is getting increasingly difficult unless a shop wants a live person on hand to demonstrate products or provide hands-on customer service. The one way you MIGHT be able to get a job like this is on a Roleplay sim. In that case you will not likely be paid, but you will have the opportunity to "work" in a town or city with other residents, so if you are just looking to act the part i'd research towns the Roleplay subtopic. You will have much more luck with something like Club management, or anything social really. Clubs are a dime a dozen, each with a variety of positions that might be available, like assistant manager or host. You could probably start working within the hour if you looked around
  2. Several Universities still have sims online, several with fairly decent new-user orientations, so I keep them landmarked for new folks. I have discovered more than one school from the middle east on the main SL grid, including Dubai's Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMeU) There is still a fairly active academic community. Every year you can visit the VWBPE (Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education) to see what different schools and nonprofits are using SL, that might be the conference you mentioned! Unfortunately there isn't much of a hub for finding these places. I have a HISTORICAL/EDUCATIONAL category in my own public landmark-library, but aside from that you are likely left to search tools and map combing! Most of the schools that still exist and function in Second Life are teaching some sort of skill used within Second Life itself, not general education. For example, places like Oxbridge University in Caledon offer a schedule of classes ranging from Q&A sessions to Buying and Renting land. Builders Brewery is another great resource for learning to create objects both inworld and with external mesh programs. There is still a plethora of Science Sims, most operated by Japanese SL'ers, with great exhibits focusing on marine biology, astronomy, earth science, and much more. Anyway good luck and have fun, there's still plenty of great educational content to explore, even if academia is gone!
  3. In what way would you "Modernize" it? Bay City itself is a retro-concept: "the American urban experience, between 1940 and 1965, perhaps best typified by Chicago circa 1950 and marked by a distinct deco influence." While not all residents adhere to this theme, as it is more of a suggestion than anything at this point, it still works perfectly with the layout of the city. Personally I think the city looks great nowadays aside from an eyesore here and there (it's mainland after all, even with those ridiculous land prices!), theres actually some really beautiful buildings and projects scattered throughout the streets, most of them consisting of attractive structures and mesh decorations. If any "City" needs reconsideration, modernization, or general overhaul, it's Nautilus City ....
  4. Sounds fun will shoot you a message inworld!
  5. More button works file for me, browsing away with no problems. That link leads me to a blank white page.
  6. Yes! It's been down for 2 days now! Mega frustrating
  7. Theres a really nice InWorld poker table that I have seen a few places. I've never seen one being utilized however. It functions more like a open ended simulator, a deck of cards and a chip betting system, so you can easily use it to play any variety of poker game!! Unfortunately I cannot remember the creator off the top of my head. I believe Lutra City had a table last time I checked. As for finding people to play with, that's another story! Though it does seem like something folks might be interested in, perhaps create a new group for it
  8. I've had an idea for a Grid Game ever since Pokemon Go came out. The makers of Pokemon Go (Niantic Labs) have another game that utilizes GPS locations and faction-based competition titled INGRESS. It operates on a similar level to Pokemon GO in that you visit hotspots using your GPS (phone), but instead of capturing monsters it's more of a "Capture the Flag" type game. Competing factions visit "Portals" located in public areas. These portals can be "Captured" by attacking them, enabling teams to turnover portals and compete for territory!! I have always imagined this type of game could work FANTASTICALLY on the grid! For both players and hosts! Sims can offer to host portals, much like fishing spots and other location based games, encouraging people to visit new areas or congregate in existing ones. Naturally it would be a traffic booster. Players could have fun by working to control territory for their faction or using the portals to discover new sims!!! Anyway, i know that's sortof just a long rant/concept, but I really think something like this could be both possible and fun!! I would LOVE a game like this to encourage groups to play together and travel across the grid....
  9. Yay Lutra!! For somewhere similar yet more ghost-town ish would be Vimmershavn/Binemust, definitely take a look if you're into that vibe...
  10. Time for the yearly friend post! Not gonna make this too complicated, hopefully I'm an easy-going elf man who sometimes dresses as a cat. I very much enjoy exploring the grid. I like browsing the ever-changing art scene. The occasional club for some good electronic music. Shopping and decorating because I am a fiend and Second Life encourages this <3. I love driving around the mainlands or private tracks, using the Second Life Railroad system, or sailing the Blake Sea. Sometimes I will randomly hop around the grid until I find something that interests me! Golfing, gaming, participating, whatever I just like having fun!!! Im also a great listener, I love listening to people chat about their second lives and interests. Light Roleplay is always welcome too! I tend to be online after 6pm SLT during the week, and most of the weekends. Perhaps you would like to join me?! I don't bite unless you ask nicely!!
  11. Looks and sounds cool! Challenge accepted! I will visit soon to give it my best shot
  12. Oh, Horizons. What a.....thing......
  13. It might be possible! A sort of Crowd-Funding might work. That paired with participation from influential artists might be enough to fill out a Museum. If the project has a focused enough mission, I could see important artists being willing to donate a piece to be featured with their story be told!! I would personally try to talk to some residents who have been for as long as possible, either artists or not, and try to hunt down as much info as I can. If I need to send emails and contact past residents so be it! I just think it would be so fascinating to have a location documenting how Art has been created, displayed or enjoyed inworld!! It may not be telling in this forum thread, but I think the interest is there, and perhaps with a group we can pool people together towards this goal...
  14. My main concern with either using a Rezz-Group or an Ad-Board style system would be people participating simply for the promotion. Even if it is difficult getting people to participate, having the "easiest" method might not be the best . I am certainly not against promoting peoples art, in fact I love it, but if this is going to be a "Museum" there needs to be a level of curation happening to some extent on the side of the administrators. I already own a gallery parcel with several other artists inworld where we utilize a Rezz-Group and bi-monthly rotation where any artists can come participate and promote their art.
  15. @855MrZilla , it sounds like you have a pretty good idea of what you want to do, so I am not sure what information you are looking for exactly. Take a look at this page and give it a thorough reading. It details the process of uploading mesh objects into Second Life for use or for sale. Also, if you want to use this body as an Avatar, you will have to create a "Rigged" model so that it moves with your skeleton, otherwise you will just be a lifeless mannequin! Hope that helps get the ball rolling. Good luck!
  16. I still love this idea, Talli! Maybe I can send a few messages to get some traction on this. A "Second Life Art-History Museum" would be really really cool in my opinion! Perhaps we can setup a group for this inworld to get the conversation going a bit more? I am sure there are plenty of artists who would be interested who don't necessarily use the Forums. Also, that little parcel next-door to me is rented yet again unfortunately! A project of this nature might benefit from being located somewhere of historical significance though, like Bay City. Either way, I'd love to work with you on this project, don't hesitate to shoot me a message or notecard next time you are free to chat
  17. Do you happen have any other Mac products? If you happen to have a iMac or a desktop, you can use services like AirDisplay to use an iPad as a Secondary Monitor over WiFi.
  18. Many Breedables Systems are still profitable to some extent. Sales are mostly isolated though, restricted to Breedable "Auctions" among the more dedicated residents. Horses, Cats, some fantasy creatures like Fawns, are all still fairly popular with new and casual users. Groups seem to be the best way to judge community/activity though, I know KittyCats for example has a very active community, you cannot go 10 minutes without someone posting stats in group chat for their latest newborns. I don't think any current systems are mesh though, I'm sure it will happen soon enough.
  19. So, in the many years that DJ Streaming has been used in Second Life, where are the documented instances of people being prosecuted for this? Would there not be some precedent set at some point, resulting in an official statement from LL? In my opinion, anyone who is streaming ONLY to people in second life is hardly a blip on the radar of any licensing or copywriting company. These laws are talking about internet radio stations, which typically broadcast 24/7; If you were to setup a Internet Radio that played top 40's hits, competing with mainstream radio etc, you would likely be at risk for not having a license. The number of people listening to a DJ broadcasting to SL alone for only a few hours every day might not be worth the time of day for anyone to prosecute. The point is, all these people saying how necessary it is to get a License, and I am nowhere near convinced. There is no evidence of residents being affected by this, nor anything in the TOS that would prevent people without a license from broadcasting. Until I can see something concrete, I cannot suggest people pay hundreds of dollars a year just to try out DJing in second life when it is clearly not a risk.
  20. To be perfectly honest, I am not sure it's the Clubs responsibility, or LL's? I believe BMI says something along the lines of License needing to be obtained by the party that stands to benefit the most or make the most profit, it seems to be a bit of a grey area when we start talking about virtual world performances. LL is, after all, technically the landlord for the whole grid. I haven't been able to find an official statement from LL regarding a DJ license owned by the company, but I also haven't found any documented evidence of a SL Club being sued or approached for not having proper Licensing.... You think by now someone would have been guilty enough for some attention, like the many copyright and content creator cases that exist.
  21. @daltonprock Thanks mate! Be talking to you soon *waves*
  22. @Pussycat Catnap What Attack? I consider myself a very progressive-minded person, and just wanted to talk to other like-minded people. If a conversation cannot happen then I will bow-out. Sorry if I am not a Liberal, and sorry if you feel attacked by whatever I said.
