  1. I agree with Whirly. When I am away, and want to keep in touch with SL friends and family, Lumiya is my go-to app. Don't have to charge the laptop and suffer 8-Core 16G withdrawal and 4fps, but I can chat happily just using my phone (and that is a low-end Samsung S5Mini). Lumiya's 3D is quite good for seeing who's around, but no use for building.....
  2. I agree about the rez-zone radar. It's like passing places on Scottish roads, when you spot one, remember it, you never know when you might be reversing the mile or so back to it. Or in SL, re-rezzing your boat after the sim crossing ate it.
  3. Went to look at the Animesh. I think I still prefer Meeroos. My main 'wow' moment recently came when I got to grips with an off-world wardrobe system that has changed the way I perceive my inventory. Now I can find stuff!
  4. Blakes Sea, over it, on it, or under it . And now I've seen AmandaKeen's piccy.....Baja Bay. (Love that Helo! ) There is another place or two, but we'd need an Adult rating for me to list them.
  5. You need to go to the Creation section of the forums. Lot's of super help there. Especially for those who have already mastered 'search'. And welcome to SL! We only seem fierce at first!
  6. Some of us can't buy a decent connection. Not because we can't afford it, and not because we don't want to, but because our miserable governments, and the miserable expletive deleted ISPs don't make it available. In my village there is only one expletive deleted ISP, there is no cable, and the junction box is a mile away. You can only buy what is on offer. It really REALLY pisses me off when people say 'buy this', when it isn't for sale!
  7. Are you accessing SL via a VPN, Proxy, or some other indirect manner? I have found that in some cases when the speed of the link and the latency are not quite what SL expects, then the connection can fail. It's so intermittent for me that I have not tried to raise a Jira.
  8. It'd be worth it for all the Group Gifts you could collect!
  9. I have a horrible feeling that when Animesh hits the streets we are all gonna have to get to grips with this. But I'm with you Chic babe, clothes are for Clothes Shops, not for me to make.
  10. I have a loo at the back of my POD station. Convenience of travellers.
  11. I don't think you read it Prok. It says that MAC addresses don't persist beyond the local network, and that is why they can't be used to filter users. Their changeability is irrelevant. I think you just like arguing. I know I do!
  12. Agree about that! So I spend the time waiting for my US partner trying to fit clothes that I bought before my mesh body.... fixing the same kind of problems as cykarushb.
  13. I'm beginning to think it is caused by my internet connection. My partner and I have noticed that I loose things and they don't. It definitely gets worse if I use a VPN - which still has a good transfer rate, but increases the latency - that's the time it takes from request to response, I think. So it may be that the hand-off of the data-packet exceeds some timing threshold, and bits of it get dumped. Only the Lindens would know. But this would explain why this used to be a problem, but as internet connections have gotten better in general, the issue has largely disappeared. I just happen to have a long-latency rural connection.
  14. There are lots of ways to texture an object. You can make it with a lot of materials, and then texture each one with a seamless texture - this is often seen as the easy way. On the other end of the scale you can make a complex, properly scaled and rotated UV Map, take that and paint it in GIMP (or if wealthy and don't mind feeding anti-trusties, Photoshop), and bake it onto the object, finally uploading that 'fitted' texture - which can only be used on that item. You can guess which end of the spectrum costs most.
  15. I suggest you read this, Callum. I love the idea, but it won't work. https://security.stackexchange.com/questions/1118/can-i-block-based-on-mac-address If the servers of the globals are doing it, I'd love to know how. And BTW, I do know how to change the MAC address of my box.
  16. Indeed, and I am trying to do that where I can. However, I only have eyeballs rigged to eyeballs, that they are the 'most dropped' items. I suppose they may be the last-attached, and it's dropping the end of the attachment list? Only thing I can think of. Yesterday, I lost the HUD that goes with the bento head, but the head was still there..... It's weird. What worries me most is that I seem to be the only one asking.
  17. and what of the poor souls who inherit that banned IP? I respectfully disagree that it is the right way to go for LL.
  18. Can't. They don't offer a service in my rural village. I can get TalkTalk, but not Fibre, so I'd be limited to 1-2Mbps - i.e. No SL. It's BT or nothing here, and even then it's just 12Mbps, since BT refuse to do FTTP.
  19. Don't see how an IP ban would help. Here in the UK, all IP's from the biggest ISP (BT, Bombay Telecom to those of us who are in their monopoly districts) are temporary. If I want a new one, I just reset my DSL Modem. I'd love a fixed IP address.
  20. I am finding increasingly that bits of my ever-more-complex avatar seem to drop off on sim crossing or TP, sometimes even HUDs drop off the screen. I have a belief (can't substantiate it 'cos I don't understand the underlying tech) that multiple attachments to same place make this worse (many items seem to want to be attached to 'pelvis', for instance), but I have noticed that some items are more prone to being lost than others. In my case that's my mesh eyes. Does anyone have any words of wisdom to share about this? I tried a search, but it wasn't especially helpful. My kit is an 8-Way AMD CPU 16Gb memory, GTX 1080Ti Graphics, running Linux 64bit Firestorm, 12Mbps rural internet, in case that's relevant.
  21. Thanks Whirly Fizzle. Interesting that hovering over your name doesn't have the option. (I wasn't going to choose it! Honest) But I can ignore me! But it's great to have a Name deleted to conform-free forum.
  22. Wouldn't it be nice if we could mute and derender people on the forums?
  23. Both of those have a demo version. No excuses for buying something that you don't like without trying the demo.
  24. I turn it on and off. I like to go sailing, and with ALM the boat looks flooded, without it the water and sky looks rubbish (ah well). Also, although I have a powerful 8-way CPU, 16G memory, and GTX 1080ti, I have a rubbish rural internet link 12Mbps but with horrible latency. Oh and I use Linux, and Firestorm Linux 64 bit, while a great improvement on the SLV, isn't very fast.
