If we going to get up-tight about people playing an avi with a skin-color more or less melanin-challenged than their RL corpse, we are in big trouble with old men playing pretty young ladies.

Try this. Go to an over-populated General sim. Watch mesh-bodied avatars rezzing. Note that for some seconds they can appear complete nude before their mesh clothing rezzes. I ask myself: 'if non-nudity is so important to American prudes, why doesn't LL strictly enforce the order of the rezzing of the meshes - clothes first!'? (Ya, I know they can't, )

Linden Labs have other things to do. And the money comes in anyway. Every time you buy a body from a 3rd party you have to buy the Linden Dollars to do it with. So the LL makes more money this way. It's daft to think that they are philanthropic, it's a business.

My graphic card (GTX 1080ti) scores 13496 in the passmark test (http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php), and sometime I get 20fps....

I have nothing against Gorillas at all. And I wish the lady Gorillas great fun and frolics with the gentleman Gorillas. I just happen to be a not-gorilla kind of great ape. And some of the pictures of boys in this thread are MUCH better than I have seen before. Not sure that I like the excessive pecs, and over-muscled abs though. I like boys who spend their time with me, and not in the gym all the time.

I usually blacklist and de-render anyone I block. I usually send them a parting 'You are now Muted and De-Rendered', but sometimes I can't be bothered. Plenty of fish in the sea. I did forgive one obnoxious jerk who contacted me via a mutual friend. Turns out he was actually OK, but RPing a jerk. One of my neighbours blocked me from his land, I guess 'cos I overfly with my Helicopters. I don't complain, I just blocked him from mine. My land encircles his except on one side, and his block makes my flying more fun. His choice. You can't always choose your enemies, but you can usually choose your friends.

There are no hot male mesh avatars available (this is, of course, my not especially humble, opinion, as a 22 year old British unattached female). There are only muscle-bound over-shouldered gorilla-like (MBOSGL) male bodies - even the ones reviewers praise as not being MBOSGL. And the available AOs make them look more like a gorilla than anything even vaguely human. And the same with male mesh heads. Not one of them looks like a person that I wouldn't avoid like the plague in RL. Maybe that's just 21st century American female fashion in men. But I think they all look unredeemable ugly and unattractive. Give up.

Yes the Render Metadata is confusing, isn't it? But if you cam-in on, say a doorway edge, you should be able to see the shape of the physics. I should add that even though there are lots of mesh designers who make lovely buildings, some are not so hot at getting the physics right - it's an art in itself. Good luck getting a good response from yours. If you look elsewhere on this forum, you will find excellent explanations of how to understand physics. Look for posts by Chinrey, Whirly Fizzle, and Beq Janus (and lot's of others) - that's how I learned.

You may find that the physics thickness of the wall is greater than the visual thickness. So when you place the vendor, you are actually moving inside the physical shape. You can try a look at the store's wall with Developer->Render Metadata->Physics Shapes set. This isn't conclusive though, because it is showing you the viewer's understanding of the physics, not the server's - and they are different.

One thing to add, if you see the avatar of the perp, right click on it, click 'More', click 'Derender', choose 'Blacklist'. Now you won't ever see the creep ever again. Should he shower you with gifts via a 3rd party (his only option), there is a way to remove him from the blacklist, but I leave that as a class exercise.

I have seen some of the boys with the V-Tech add-on to the Maitreya, it is NOT intended to represent a small breast size, but a male chest. When used with a female skin, that is with under-breast shading and the higher nipple position it looks very odd. The add-on is basically a new mesh upper body with a Maitreya autohide incorporated, it's very clever IMO. I wonder if V-Tech could be persuaded to make a proper A-Cup version. I would be very interested in that myself - I try to look 18.000001. But the warning has to be that it may not correctly work the Fitmesh of clothing - so then you are back into clothes don't fit.

I have tried loads of clothes that look great if you are standing in a certain pose for a photo (I use a well know off-world Wardrobe product than needs photos of outfits, so I take a lot of photos), but if you walk with any kind of AO, pushes your bum through the skirts/pants. Posing on a body, ain't the same as wearing it to play in. When I say 'try the demo', I mean walk run jump etc., in the demo.

I have a simple rule for Mesh clothes: 1) under 100L and from a brand I trust, take a risk if I'm in a hurry. 2) anything over 100L check the demo. 3) if there is no demo, never, ever, buy from that store. Rule 3 , I would like everyone to do, then the idiots who sell demo-free clothes will go out of business. So: PLEASE DO NOT BUY MESH CLOTHES THAT DON'T HAVE A DEMO.

I often find that the XS version of clothes fits my Maitreya body better than the the one labelled Maitreya. The reason for this is that the designer has done a very bad job of rigging the clothes to the Maitreya shape - and is probably not using the official developer's kit (because Maitreya are very choosy about who gets it). The XS size may not be so close to the body, sometimes alphas are not needed at all, but often the pelvis and top of the legs needs to be alpha-ed out. It is quite normal, even for designers who make otherwise good clothes, to have to alpha out the arm-shoulder area.

You know, RL people are made of 4billion year-old code (DNA sequences), and we (well, God or fate actually) are patching it with every baby. Still works, just about, and is still fun. Some people moan about that too.

I agree with Whirly. When I am away, and want to keep in touch with SL friends and family, Lumiya is my go-to app. Don't have to charge the laptop and suffer 8-Core 16G withdrawal and 4fps, but I can chat happily just using my phone (and that is a low-end Samsung S5Mini). Lumiya's 3D is quite good for seeing who's around, but no use for building.....

I agree about the rez-zone radar. It's like passing places on Scottish roads, when you spot one, remember it, you never know when you might be reversing the mile or so back to it. Or in SL, re-rezzing your boat after the sim crossing ate it.
