  1. I suggest you read this, Callum. I love the idea, but it won't work. https://security.stackexchange.com/questions/1118/can-i-block-based-on-mac-address If the servers of the globals are doing it, I'd love to know how. And BTW, I do know how to change the MAC address of my box.
  2. Indeed, and I am trying to do that where I can. However, I only have eyeballs rigged to eyeballs, that they are the 'most dropped' items. I suppose they may be the last-attached, and it's dropping the end of the attachment list? Only thing I can think of. Yesterday, I lost the HUD that goes with the bento head, but the head was still there..... It's weird. What worries me most is that I seem to be the only one asking.
  3. and what of the poor souls who inherit that banned IP? I respectfully disagree that it is the right way to go for LL.
  4. Can't. They don't offer a service in my rural village. I can get TalkTalk, but not Fibre, so I'd be limited to 1-2Mbps - i.e. No SL. It's BT or nothing here, and even then it's just 12Mbps, since BT refuse to do FTTP.
  5. Don't see how an IP ban would help. Here in the UK, all IP's from the biggest ISP (BT, Bombay Telecom to those of us who are in their monopoly districts) are temporary. If I want a new one, I just reset my DSL Modem. I'd love a fixed IP address.
  6. I am finding increasingly that bits of my ever-more-complex avatar seem to drop off on sim crossing or TP, sometimes even HUDs drop off the screen. I have a belief (can't substantiate it 'cos I don't understand the underlying tech) that multiple attachments to same place make this worse (many items seem to want to be attached to 'pelvis', for instance), but I have noticed that some items are more prone to being lost than others. In my case that's my mesh eyes. Does anyone have any words of wisdom to share about this? I tried a search, but it wasn't especially helpful. My kit is an 8-Way AMD CPU 16Gb memory, GTX 1080Ti Graphics, running Linux 64bit Firestorm, 12Mbps rural internet, in case that's relevant.
  7. Thanks Whirly Fizzle. Interesting that hovering over your name doesn't have the option. (I wasn't going to choose it! Honest) But I can ignore me! But it's great to have a Name deleted to conform-free forum.
  8. Wouldn't it be nice if we could mute and derender people on the forums?
  9. Both of those have a demo version. No excuses for buying something that you don't like without trying the demo.
  10. I turn it on and off. I like to go sailing, and with ALM the boat looks flooded, without it the water and sky looks rubbish (ah well). Also, although I have a powerful 8-way CPU, 16G memory, and GTX 1080ti, I have a rubbish rural internet link 12Mbps but with horrible latency. Oh and I use Linux, and Firestorm Linux 64 bit, while a great improvement on the SLV, isn't very fast.

    Why Mesh?

Could you expand on that please? I didn't get what you are on about at this LOD.
  12. I have short burst with breakfast. Then I settle into work, maybe check these forums every now and then. And then I spend the evening with my partner in SL. She is on a different time zone, so that works best for us. Maybe 4 hours a day in total.
  13. also, try using the Official SL Viewer to do the upload. This looks like Firestorm from the photos. Firestorm and SLV often have big differences.
  14. Have you seen the cost for most 3D tools? Zbrush-core for instance is $150. Sheesh!
  15. God loves a sinner, come to repentance..... I didn't know you could do that either. Thanks for bringing it up.
  16. You are probably right about the network connection. I certainly can tell when I forget to turn the VPN off before I go online.
  17. All I meant was that I understand that there is an understandable and sensible method. I wasn't criticising at all. The word 'exploit' has no critical connotation for me.
  18. In my experience, the biggest determinant of SL playability is the GPU power. Tablets mostly have graphics optimized for other things, like streaming video and kwitter and arsetome.... Try the Lumiya app on Android to see the state of the 'tablet' art. It's actually quite good for chatting and IMs.
  19. OK, your method I can understand, you are exploiting the rules for your benefit. I have to admit I didn't think this right through. Where there are addicts, there's a profit. I had not considered the secondary market properly.
  20. Why do people buy from Gashas? I never could understand it. Isn't it like putting your money into a bandit, and pulling the lever until it's all gone?
  21. and the most important advice of all, that you should use the Beta Grid (aditi) to test and test and test, before paying to upload either textures or meshes to the main SL grid. Unless you are a billionaire, of course. I learned Blender over the last 2 years. Still learning.....
  22. Hmm? The rate at the moment is around 250 lindens to the USD. So 200,000 L$ is well under a $grand. For some things that's a bargain. No way I'd pay it for something I can make myself.
