  1. I am currently using Premiere Pro - but am growing weary of the fact that I have to "rent" Adobe software for as long as I use it. I recently downloaded Davinci Resolve (free version) to look at video editing on that. Does anybody else use Resolve or what other type of editing software do people use other than Abobe products? and I am on a PC platform not Apple
  2. just remember, what happens in your Viewer stays in your Viewer
  3. But, they shoulda come up with a new scale like LH or LM, Linden feet or Linden Meters, but then again, who woulda know years later people would freak the F out cause some pixel beings are "7 feet" tall in a non real pixel world!
  4. "cheap PC" has different meanings to different people but Id say at least a core i5 or AMD equivalent and use a good Nvidia card. Sl likes Nvidia
  5. The BIGGEST mistake Linden ever did with avatar is give a 'height" in real world measurements! Second Life is NOT Real World! it is a computer program of pixels, therefore things are IN SCALE with objects inside the virtual world! One primary factor being the camera off set is behind and over us, therefore, if a building had a "real world" ceiling height of 8 feet, the avatar would need to be about 4 feet, 5 foot maximum to walk around inside! Height is irrelevant! it is all about SCALE And as far as fat butts go, hey, we can be anything we want in SL and if that's what people want or what makes them happy, then fat butt away I say!
  6. I think the issue facing Linden is people aren't buying "machines" they have laptops and tablets nowadays. Except for hard core gamers who probably aren't likely that interested in SL anyways. And i think it would be hard for someone to justify just because they like SL to spend 2 or 3 thousand (or more) on a machine powerful to enjoy SL in all its glory
  7. if anybody does photos in SL for people aspect ratio has always been a joke! Profile, well some see 4:3 others 1:1 oh you want one for your "picks" section that's completely different! oh you need a photo for the destination guide, again, completely different than everything else!
  8. Amazon will buy it and force us to join Prime or we have to wait 2 days to log in each time!
  9. I think there would be alot of depressed people! I know I make some money there so that would suck losing that, but it would be really bad for all the content creators and land owners etc... And alot of horny bored housewives would need to find a new outlet!
  10. yet another reason why Linden has a hard to keeping new residents lol. You almost need to be a computer scientists just to log onto SL and use it properly! lol But yeah Ive checked the connection back to Tuscon
  11. I have often wondered, not knowing anything about the coding behind SL, if perhaps the code that makes it all run hasn't kept up with the times, Back in 2003 I mean alot werre still even on dial up or maybe 10-20 mbs at best broadband and can graphic cards and computer memory much much less I find myself wondering why he heck I have a 100mbs download, 4 gig Graphic card and 32 gig o system memory and a core i7 processor and yet it seems like I'm downloading SL at times on a Commodore 64! I mean OK even if mesh avies eat up alot of resources, it still shouldn't take that much for a modern computer to handle.I guess i still don't understand why a sim with 30 avies, once rendered continues to operate so slow. just 32 gig of ram should be enough to keep the entire scene in memory. watching the network on the windows task manager it certainly isn't overloading the download speed and dont even take that long for the initial render to be completed
  12. You might want to take it to see a PC Doctor. It could be allergic to trees!
  13. It is slow, and it is the avatars. I film weddings and with 20+ avis (quite often, 50+ avis) and all lighting modes activated (cause wedding videos gotta be pretty!) i am lucky if the camera is pointed to the guests to get 2 or 3 FPS. Next time you are at Fogbound go to World>Show Friends Only and watch your FPS skyrocket Really not a heck alot we can do. I keep my shaders and shadows off for normal everyday use, and in a place like fogbound, just set it to midnight with local lites on. Good enuf! I keep max complexity at about 135k so any jelly dolls get the big fat derender! and lowering the max amount of avatars helps, but hey, you're there to enjoy the place and people, so...... My computer, while I built it in 2014, is still pretty competent for SL 100mbs download on a wired LAN core i7@3.8 ghz 32 gig RAM Nvidia GTX 970 with 4 gig memory
  14. Builders that build local lights into a build that are on full nuke mode and no modify! but the BIGGEST is i friended a girl named I think Becky, so lets look in the friends list. Nope, nothing in the "B"s! instead her name is a combination of scribbles and random made up symbols that somehow form her name!
  15. one thing if you want to get smooth slow pans (assuming lag don't get you) is to seet the "feathering" super low., like .005 or so and then lower the thrusts from the default 2 to something much lower. Of course if you want crazy fast cam movements then u just have to practice getting the feel of the mouse
  16. Has anybody ever figured out what the deal is with local lights and when you activate the Flycam button? This issue has been here for years and years and no one can even really explain it. And not just local lights but textures as well. Perfect example I was filming a wedding, it was a sunset kind of light, 2 local light sources up around the alter. The bride's entire head was way darker than the rest of her body. Activate the fly cam everything brightens up and her head skin matches the body skin again. But I see issues like this all the time with the Flycam and have always wondered what the heck is going on - how does the fly cam affect local lighting?
  17. I keep it simple. 4:3 cause i use FS and so do hoards of others. so what it's squish a bit in the 'official' aspect ratio!
  18. If you get a chance to take in Sultry's shows you should do so she is an awesome singer in SL. I've made a few videos of her singing and she has recorded me some songs to be used in a music video. This is Sultry performing at Babylon Berlin

  20. hands down PS as it is the only one I ever used, but, now that it is on a never ending rental price, may be rethinking that!
  21. contact Wren Noir in world. She runs the Visionaire Institute and has a comprehensive multi week photography course for SL
  22. on a technical note, I would say watch the use of your face/body lights. they should never overpower the rest of the scene. One other important thing on shadows: Just because we can make shadows doesn't mean we always should. look at RL photography with models in the scene. Rarely see professionals have shadows go across the subjects face or body - most often you might see backlight shots with perhaps a little fill light (which would be your face/body light)
  23. You need to capture the screen to start. I used to use FRAPS but seems was having lagging issues. I use OBS now (what strawberry uses) Having a 3D mouse is not required but for a flycam type of filming it is needed (Space Navigator mouse) Lastly, you will need to edit then render your video. Thre are some good free/low cost editors out there (Davinci Resolve is free) I use Adobe Premiere but dat ***** be expensive! There are some in world scripted cams you can check out too some of which may be useful. I found this post too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X21kpM33uqg&list=PLzq27AiUEAGwdZweJAH3lxjFnQioEItMP&index=28&t=0s
