FS blacking out/ not responding glitch
Jackson Redstar replied to Jackson Redstar's topic in Second Life Viewer
As an update, I went to the same place on the BD viewer and had zero issue there. I know its not apples to apples comparison, but still, makes me wonder if not a FS issue maybe something within Win 10 is doing something to FS. I'm getting about 20-30 (or more) fps with shadows on with the BD viewer -
FS blacking out/ not responding glitch

I use a 3D mouse and OBS for recording however on this i was just moving the cam with alt+ right click no 3D cam (with FPS that low, it's all herky jerky on a 3D mouse for recording) i plan on going back soon see if i experience the same thing. I also just removed the latest Win10 cumulative update for February, sometimes Win10 updates can really f*** some things up -

FS blacking out/ not responding glitch
Jackson Redstar replied to Jackson Redstar's topic in Second Life Viewer
this is just the blackout within the viewer not the whole desktop. the viewer framer it self is still there and is flashing 'not responding' at the top left corner. Im not maxed out on RAM and cerianly not maxed out on GPU memory - CPU is at like 50-60% maybe GPU is about 20% the one thing i didnt test is if BD viewer reacts the sane way,,,,,, -
has anyone seen this error? this happens in conjunction when the frame rate on a sim drops to like a few frames per sec . CPU usage seems fairly high, GPU usage very low. I am wondering if this might be a FS issue, a Win10 issue or even a hardware issue. Sys specs below. I am including a video so you can visually see what I am seeing. I should add this isn't everywhere in SL but in certain sims this happens. others are fine - even crowded ones CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz (3707.26 MHz) Memory: 16326 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows 10 64-bit (Build 18363.592) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 1080/PCIe/SSE2 Windows Graphics Driver Version: 26.21.14.4250 OpenGL Version: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 442.50

Comparative feature lists for different viewers?
Jackson Redstar replied to Pussycat Catnap's topic in Second Life Viewer
Ctrl + S in FS. resynch animations. If you are trying to video people dancing or such, super useful. Non existent in BD "edit' a objection you are wearing via inventory, only in FS. If you have on a facelite to make a photo, super useful. In BD have to use the old fashioned method turn on transparencies and hope you can find the face light Refresh textures in FS. Cannot do that in BD But alot of what BD does that FS doesn't do outweighs alot of those minor things. Also, tone mapping super awesome specially making dark images when using BD -
I would like to be a photographer
Jackson Redstar replied to ScarlettMagicMystic's topic in Inworld Employment
EVERYBODY is a 'photographer' in SL. You can just have fun with it and make lots of nice photos and some people are still willing to pay a small amount for a 'processional' photo or focus on an area where you will find paid photo work, namely being weddings. Good, I mean really good, wedding photographers are often sought, and if you find the right venue or clients, you can charge decent amounts for your efforts -
IMO SL will never be 'fast' or free of lag. Regardless of the coding, it still requires to 'live process' all the graphics, the lighting, shadows, mesh, avatars, textures etc... They 'kinda' figured it out in Sansar pretty much as each new scene (or in SL a sim) was downloaded onto the local client, but I think a user generated virtual world, I really don't think anything can make SL operate like say, any game you might play on your computer

"misogynistic" could easily describe the entire RLV system in Sl - but , all or the participants are consensual, so what does that say? -
Max Performance graphics on Firestorm
Jackson Redstar replied to bbkeh's topic in Second Life Viewer
What I have never understood is some sims the GPU ramps up and is at 90-100% and FPS is generally pretty good. Other sims given the same settings and WL, it is choking on higher CPU and very little on the GPU with lower FPS. I know of course it is not apples to apples, but what gets a sim to run more GPU and one run more CPU? I don't know if it is just different servers or different code or what. Some sims you enter and everything is choking the CPU is high and the FPS is super low until the scene gets more processed, then GPU comes up along with FPS. Other sims right off the GPU is cooking and FPS is great. I really have no idea what is running 'under the hood' -

you can also remove weight from a car by removing its wheels, too. Some cuts are always needed, redundancy, project ending, etc.. But when the co is struggling to make a profit, and revenue isn't enough to keep operations going, cutting employees is a sure sign if a few holes in the ship -

funny how when companies make rounds of layoffs, they always say everything is going great! we are just "right sizing" In todays world, the captain can have the water up to his knees on the sinking ship, all the while smiling and saying "nothing to see here! everything is fine! carry on!" -
There are a couple features missing out of BD that while most may not notice, can be frustration, one in particular when trying to video 1) cannot turn off 'show look at' target. On a couple occasions in the past when used BD to film weddings, I actually get IM'd rather anger like, "why are you zooming in on my..." Uh, dude, I am filming a wedding here! sheesh! 2) This for me is why I can't use BD to film a wedding anymore. There is no re-synch (the ctrl+s) to re-synch animations in the scene. Pretty much impossible to film couples dancing without hitting ctrl+s a few times to try to get them aligned, or for that matter, even to take a photo 3) there is no 'texture refresh'. If a texture isn't loading properly or one starts to thrash, right clicking on it and hitting texture re fresh can be a big help alot of times Besides those 3 glaring holes, when it comes to BD filming scenes where alot of avis are present and or 'complicated' scenes, BD can struggle to load, taking 10x longer, or more, to load than FS (sometimes, if ever), texture thrashing can still be an issue, and when you are filming a wedding (or anything, really) having textures blur in and out, well, that just isn't gonna work Having said that I still like BD for doing photos esp. using the Poser (Damn sure wish LL would let that be used on another avatar! with thier permission of course) BUT, some of the in word advantages in BD rendering can be made up in photoshop, so there is that too....

The Anti-Valentine's Day Thread
Jackson Redstar replied to Scylla Rhiadra's topic in General Discussion Forum
As a kid in elementary school, only the "popular" boys and girls had fun with it, everyone else was reminded what a loser you are. And as I aged I begin seeing what it really is, like Christmas, just a giant sales scam and guilt trip show - of course, unless you're "rich" then you can have some fun with it. But V Day especially is a moronic, shameless attempt into guiltiling men to blow a few bucks (or a few hundred) to make the SO feel all romantic like. At least in SL you can play V Day with your SO for very little money, so there's that at least! lol -
would be nice, being 2020 and all, that the viewer can be coded to handle client/server communication with zero user manual input. Like, I dunno, streaming content, youtube, netflix, etc.. etc.... lol
