  1. No, no, I'm not talking nudes here! A few of us were chatting in other threads/boards about how we'd like to see a photo thread for raw, as-is, screenshots without post-production. So... we have the technology, let's give it a whirl. So that we can stay on topic, and in the mods' good graces, and perhaps have some ammo against trolls, here's a little bit about the theme here: This is primarily, but not exclusively, a photo thread. Post images that are screenshots of scenes that focus on the avatar. That means they are not to be edited with post-production techniques, like from Photoshop. Cropping and signatures are ok. This is for portraits, not landscapes, etc. See the exception to the edited photos below.* It's ok to banter and have some chat. The focus of the thread is photos, but also to have a fun community where a little quipping and bantering is ok and even welcome. Don't do pages and pages of it, but a little is fine. It is nice to have chatter about "I like your photo" but it is also nice to have chat about "I like your photo because. . ." It is also ok then to have chat about, "I like your photo, how did you . . . ?" And that would be for talks about mechanics OF THE PHOTOS POSTED. So talks about the viewer used, the DOF settings, etc. are all on topic as long as they are about specific photos in the thread. Hopefully this doesn't don't take pages and pages and push out the photos. If that happens I hope it is ok to suggest that a new topic be started for that particular subject. It is also OK to ask, "Where did you get that . . .?" "What is the SLurl?" That's about it. Have fun. Don't be a d*ck, and everything will be just fine. *If people who do post-processing would share their before and after photos here then that would be another way to participate. If you do that, then it is OK to post the after shot along with the before, or you can post a link to the after shot in Flickr or wherever you post your finished work. Strawberry Singh/Linden used to post the raw shot on her my.secondlife feed and the finished product on her blog, and I always found that to be fun and interesting. Be sure to include the raw shot! DISCLAIMER SO PEOPLE DON'T GET TWISTED KNICKERS: It is NOT the intention of this thread to claim that raw shots are better in any way, shape, or form than ones that are edited. Nope. They are both great—but they are two different things. Also, I have heard from some folks that putting their screenshots in with the heavily processed shots can be intimidating. If you feel that way, post here. If your style is more quick snapshots to chronicle every day avatarisms, post here. If you don't like a certain chat, like say, the mechanics of DOF on xyz's photo, the scroll feature works really well. I'm hoping we get all styles and levels of participation here. Now go out there, take some photos, show 'em off here and have fun!
  2. I figured I'd create a new thread so I wouldn't "necro" an old one. Here goes. I see some gorgeous pictures throughout. (especially in How Does Your Avatar Look Today,) and I saw the part in that forum where lighting was explained. Anyway, I thought I would show you this picture, then tell how I did it. Zero post-editing work, 100% SL viewer and no "photo tools" or any filter-trickery, (not even so much as cropping). This can be done in the Official LL viewer. Here is the finished picture: Here is how I did it: First, I've created a "Photo Lights" attachment I can attach to my chin anywhere. It uses the standard three-light set-up: Main, Fill, Backlight. If anyone wants this attachment, IM me here or in-world: I'll give it to you (or you can make your own): (Yus! My typo: in the third image, the light to the lower-front of me is the *FILL* light - so much for my attempt at a perfect post) ~Groans~ After I select a pose, I edit the lights and turn on EDIT LINKED - I position them how I want them to be. In the properties I usually change the color, I think I have the intensity, fall-off, and that stuff set about right. Then I may play with changing the colors of each light, in my finish example I set the Main to blue and the Back to red, and left the fill as white. Once my lights are set, I turn off EDIT LINKED then just set the texture to transparent. Now I deal with camera angle and *Field of View*. FOV is what we always call "zoom" and people don't understand what it does. So I'll tell you: It removes (or adds) *lens distortion*. It's easier to show you: This is the "default" camera view. Looks normal, right? Now look at 8x "Zoom" (hold CTRL and tap 0 eight times) The differences are in the legs and head: no distortion; this is my true shape. And if we go the opposite: (CTRL+8 three times from default) FYI: CTRL+9 always sets your camera back to default view. So now that I have my camera angle the way I like it (foreground, background, lighting, etc.) - I turn on my "Focal Length" - a.k.a. "Defocussing Background" (It's not called Bokeh, by the way - Bokeh is the Japanese word to describe defocussed dust and other particles in the foreground; FYI) The problem with the way this works is that you have to ALT+[CLICK] to focus something, everything else gets defocussed. This creates the dreaded "Bullseye" framing. So the way to move your camera to position your subject off-center (such as the "rule-of-thirds," etc.) is to use the key commands: ALT+arrow: move forward/back and left/right around ALT+CTRL+arrow: - Rotate up/down and left/right around ALT+CTRL+SHIFT+arrow: raise/lower and crab left/right without changing the camera angle. In this case, I did ALT+CTRL+SHIFT and tapped the left arrow a couple times. This is how I put my subject off-center: For my final image (above) I also selected the "Auto-Contrast" filter built into the snapshot tool. Also, I left all lights white so you can see their effect directly. So there you go. That's how to do great "photography" in SL without relying on expensive HUDs or viewer tools like FS Phototools. These pictures, including the final one, are 100% viewer-created, no post work in any off-line apps or anything. ANYWAY: What tips or tricks do YOU have to share? Include pictures (and it's okay if you use Phototools or whatever else and even post-editing in your offline app) - but explain to us how you did it! (No need for step-by-steps or anything, just tell us what you did )
  3. Are there visual artists in Bellisseria? I'm sure there are, but it would be great to get to know them. Does anyone know where I could see their work?

  5. I'm looking for great models (couples, family & friends - NO single avatars) to complete my upcoming (new) digital art portfolio on Flickr. You can win an absolutely FREE, HQ photoshoot + editing (professional hair drawing, skin retouche etc. - the total package) by simply taking a snapshot of yourself and your partner or with friends in the outfit you want to have the photoshoot done (please no editing of the picture, just a raw snapshot). REQUIREMENTS to participate in this contest: - MESH Avatars only / HQ Head + Body - NO Freebie-Clothes (your outfit can be any style you like, e.g. gothic, sexy, business ... ) - NO single avatars (I need more than 1 avatar on the picture - you can apply as a couple (lovers) OR as friends (2-3 avatars) OR as a family (max. 4 avatars) - MUST provide a RAW SNAPSHOT with all participants (unedited) with the clothes you like to use in the professional photoshoot so that I can see what you look like -> you can paste a link to your snapshot in my private box/IM etc. or send it inworld to my avatar "EclipticalMoon" - you also don't need to buy poseballs - you can just stand next to each other without posing - I just need to get an impression of your pixels 😀 IMPORTANT: I will draw TWO winners after checking the snapshots and will announce here as soon as the search is over. The winners will get their edited picture in full perm. Participating in this "contest" doesn't guarantee you to win, please keep that in mind. But it is a great opportunity to win a professional photo editing which you normally have to pay over 2k for inworld. Good luck 😉
  6. Hello, Wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue? When I attempt to take a photo (snapshot) in game, I end up with a mostly black photo with some light showing. I have tried adjusting the Environment Editor to different settings. The issue occurs when I am taking photos while on the Ultra for the graphics setting. I am able to take 'normal' photos when I shoot on lower setting, specifically Mid. Previously, this has never been an issue for me. I've included photos to demonstrate the issue. Currently, using a Mac, which is about 3-4 years old.

  11. I am a Female photographer, I am seeking a Male model to model with me for my couple poses. (Preferably someone who could use or hear voice, to make instructing much easier for both of us, you don't have to talk in voice, just be able to hear me that would be enough) It is not a requirement, but it would make it much easier, if you can't hear voice, IM me its no problem really. The only requirement is the avatar MUST be a mesh bento avatar, as all the poses I am going to be doing are bento, please IM me In-World if you are interested, or leave me a NC if I was offline. Here's my flickr if you would like to see my work before IMing me. www.flickr.com/photos/__-pearl-__/ XxMadmoisellePinkxX Resident Thank you in advance♥
  12. Did you guys notice a challenge from Strawberry Linden in the EVENTS section of this forum. Go check it out. All explained there. Have a go. Its a fun challenge for all. Decade Challenge
  13. Just like it says on the tin. This was a fun event and I enjoyed the entries. I hoped we would Leap Into Love return in 2017 but I guess it was a one time thing. Are there going to be new photo events? Maybe different themes or inspirations? It doesn't need to be a holiday and it really doesn't need to be a contest. Just a chance at community involvement is all the reason many of us need.
  14. ♥Artist Application♥

  17. HI! We are FOCUS Magazine & Gallery, The Exploratorium Photo Gallery, and FAIR Photo Gallery, and we are looking for a few people who are interested in being a part of our team. The magazine, the galleries, the events, the photo contests, the fundraisers – all have a spirit of community and collaboration. That is our fundamental goal: to bring people together in a fun and positive way, creating happiness, and appreciating each individual. We all have RL’s, and we all want to have fun in SL. A large time commitment is unnecessary. But if you have a positive outlook, some patience with scattered brains, think “grassroots” entrepreneurial endeavors are FUN, a team spirit and a few hours a month to contribute and share with our fun group, please join us! All ideas welcome. We are a moderate group.
  18. What is your favorite photo editor? Personally, I prefer Phootoshop because it is very complete, however, there are times that I feel lazy when using it and I look for one online or use an application from my mobile. The online is www.fotor.com and the application is a photo editor / photo collage. Of course, both are not as complete as Phootoshop but for a quick edit they are very good. Only that I would like to change the application because now it is becoming very limited.
  19. While Flickr is migrating their servers tonight they did announce a "Good Panda Contest" I'm assuming this is mostly for RL photographers but I think it would be fun if we show some Second Life Spirit and start sending them our SL version of photos of this contest... First here is a link to their contest... https://blog.flickr.net/en/2019/05/08/enter-our-good-panda-photo-contest-for-a-chance-to-win-a-free-year-of-flickr-pro/ Second here is an image you can upload to SL and use for the photos... plus I included my own photo that I have done to show you an example... If you do a Good Panda photo for the Flickr contest please come back here too and show us your Good Panda photo 😃 ❤️ Eva
