  1. you can also remove weight from a car by removing its wheels, too. Some cuts are always needed, redundancy, project ending, etc.. But when the co is struggling to make a profit, and revenue isn't enough to keep operations going, cutting employees is a sure sign if a few holes in the ship
  2. funny how when companies make rounds of layoffs, they always say everything is going great! we are just "right sizing" In todays world, the captain can have the water up to his knees on the sinking ship, all the while smiling and saying "nothing to see here! everything is fine! carry on!"
  3. There are a couple features missing out of BD that while most may not notice, can be frustration, one in particular when trying to video 1) cannot turn off 'show look at' target. On a couple occasions in the past when used BD to film weddings, I actually get IM'd rather anger like, "why are you zooming in on my..." Uh, dude, I am filming a wedding here! sheesh! 2) This for me is why I can't use BD to film a wedding anymore. There is no re-synch (the ctrl+s) to re-synch animations in the scene. Pretty much impossible to film couples dancing without hitting ctrl+s a few times to try to get them aligned, or for that matter, even to take a photo 3) there is no 'texture refresh'. If a texture isn't loading properly or one starts to thrash, right clicking on it and hitting texture re fresh can be a big help alot of times Besides those 3 glaring holes, when it comes to BD filming scenes where alot of avis are present and or 'complicated' scenes, BD can struggle to load, taking 10x longer, or more, to load than FS (sometimes, if ever), texture thrashing can still be an issue, and when you are filming a wedding (or anything, really) having textures blur in and out, well, that just isn't gonna work Having said that I still like BD for doing photos esp. using the Poser (Damn sure wish LL would let that be used on another avatar! with thier permission of course) BUT, some of the in word advantages in BD rendering can be made up in photoshop, so there is that too....
  4. As a kid in elementary school, only the "popular" boys and girls had fun with it, everyone else was reminded what a loser you are. And as I aged I begin seeing what it really is, like Christmas, just a giant sales scam and guilt trip show - of course, unless you're "rich" then you can have some fun with it. But V Day especially is a moronic, shameless attempt into guiltiling men to blow a few bucks (or a few hundred) to make the SO feel all romantic like. At least in SL you can play V Day with your SO for very little money, so there's that at least! lol
  5. would be nice, being 2020 and all, that the viewer can be coded to handle client/server communication with zero user manual input. Like, I dunno, streaming content, youtube, netflix, etc.. etc.... lol
  6. Hi, I film weddings (though they are rarely ever "live recorded" it is more a wedding film of the event and reception set to a couple songs. my youtube channel for weddings: Wedding Videos
  7. i have noticed it can be highly sim dependent. Some sims just rock, even pretty well built ones, and some sims just flat out suck the life out of your viewer. having alot of avies around is always an issue, but since I video weddings, i have no choice but to leave everyone rendered. I do keep my FS settings one notch below ultra and turn on what I need I have now a 8gig gtx 1080 and when I am at 'full blast' on a crowded sim recording I can see video memory is easily up to 6 or 7 gigs, my previous gtx 970 was a 4 gig card. I have a core 17 and 16gig ram. I also have 100mbs download speed. Custom fan profiles are your friends People spend big bucks on 'gaming' rigs cause usually you get a good return for your money. Not really the case with SL
  8. I am trying to gather info from Devs or Win 10 people on a situation I been noticing happening alot lately. Puter and Win10 spec will be listed below. I noticed most time upon landing in a sim I get like single digit FPS and after a while (2-3 minutes plus) the FPS gets back up to about maybe 20-40 just depends, I have also been observing the task manager and the texture loading console. There is obvious allot of texture loading going on, and the CPU usuag is fairly high while the GPU usuage is low. It appears once the textures are processed, CPU use drops, GPU use rises along with the FPS. On other sims where FPS is really good upon landing, I notice CPU use is low and GPU use really high, like 90% or more. It just appears somewhere I am choking when it comes to processing textures on some sims. I have whitelisted FS in the Win10 Firewall, and also tried whitelisting the cache folders from being scanned as well. Neither makes any difference. So the questions is is this maybe some fairly recent Win10 update doing weird things? I have re-installed FS and even done a clean install. Vid card driver up to date as well as all the other drivers in the system. I have a 1T SSD main drive so the OS , FS and cache folders are all on that drive
  9. unintended consequences. This may put Linden out of business as pensioners in the UK can't afford to play in a virtual world no more!!!!
  10. sim crosses will always be borked in sl. Most 'riding sims' are on a single sim and the track goes up (or down) vertically
  11. "voice verified" was likely started in the stripper/escort profession in SL, so.....
  12. mine would have to be the absence of all color and all light
  13. the fact that the world is going nuts over this speaks volumes. But, I applaud Megan. The idea of 'royalty' is asinine anyways just because you were born to a certain set of parents, but that is what it is - but why should it be a life long indentured servant contract for the kids? Yeah yeah, she knew what she was marrying into , but, I say kudos for bucking that and wanting her own life for themselves and her kid. Harry can still play Prince when needed to be a good will ambassador for the Crown, she can do her thing with acting or fashion or whatever, and the kid can grow up kinda mostly normal. It's 2020, women can even vote these days!
  14. SL doesn't return good value for the money spent on a new computer though, unlike a build for gaming. You'll always find sims that just really suck the life out of your PC. But, Nvidia has always been said to be the preferred graphics card for SL
  15. I am sure there are those that are still raging that Windows 1.0 isn't still being supported. It was such a good OS on their Commodore 64 machines! if one takes a little time to watch youtube vids on Win 10, they would know all the "privacy" issues in Win 10 can easily be turned off. and the primary issues with Win 10 is outdated, unsupported hardware and/or software. But then again, those people probably still jam out on their sony walkmans and use their flip phones still and really, really miss the lovely noise modems made to connect to the interwebs.
  16. Would would be nice is if you could attach a NC to a 'pick' That would solve alot of problems (and no doubt create a few more lol) But if one ran a rental co for example they could get a NC for all your info
  17. that is a day cycle. You need to be on a Fixed Cycle. If you are in FS go to world>environment editor>environment settings. Select fixed cycle and select a WL to use (or make your self a custom on for that)
  18. discussion of politics USED to be about policy positions. Now it is just about your guy sucks and everyone who voted for that person is a moron, racist, bigot, or whatever. That was how a multi-party system was meant to work - people had different positions on policy, they hash it out and try to reach a compromise that somewhat makes everyone happy
  19. I have noticed on BD what i consider a 'hard' sim, lots of mesh, lots of alphas, it would always take a long time at low fps and for things to even start rezzing and go from grey, whereas FS seems to have a easier time on these sorts of sims, so i had assumed (maybe incorrectly) that maybe something was different between the 2 viewers (other than the obvious, of course) but maybe it just something in my system or settings that is borked. I do ensure both viewers are on the white list for the firewall. I just wonder since BD isn't 'officially' signed by MS if that also has something to do with it like something in windows is giving the viewer low priority or something
  20. Politics are very divided now a days , and too further the division to make a claim that it is 'only trump supporters' is pretty ridiculous. Both sides push their views, often to an extreme at times, but there is primarily one side that gets blacklisted, harassed out of bars and dining establishments, beat up, spit on, because of their political views. The other side can do whatever they want, say whatever they want, use violent tactics, and that is considered acceptable behavior cause the current President is wrong and the 60 mil people who voted for him are idiots. we all have different opinions and we all think usually the other side has the wrong opinion, and in days past, this was just the normal discourse, We could live with it. Now all it is is throwing hand grenades over the walls I think the appropriate couple appropriate terms here would be "he without sin can cast the first stone" and "be careful throwing stones in a glass house" and I mean this no matter which side one supports
  21. thanks Niran Ill do a clean install on this and see how it goes It's intersting you say the GPU was maxed as my CPU ramps if first then after a while the CPU from sown and the GPU comes up some
  22. This isn't meant to be a knock on the BD viewer, just trying to understand what the viewer is trying to load in vs Firestorm... Some sims on BD it can barely get 1fps on landing and never ramps up. I see the CPU load at about 50-60%, GPU almost at idle. FS will chug a bit at first at the same sim (both only maybe 5 avies on it) with the CPU running along at about 50% or so, but after a short bit, the sim is 'drawn, CPU drops down and FPS comes up. I know some sims are chug monsters they just never get good FPS . Shaders on but shadows off, all other settings roughly the same. So it got me wondering what the BD is trying to load differently than FS. Anybody have any guesses? CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz (3597.91 MHz) Memory: 16326 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows 10 64-bit (Build 18363.535) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 1080/PCIe/SSE2 Windows Graphics Driver Version: 26.21.14.4166 OpenGL Version: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 441.66
  23. well, hell, I was hoping someobody was gonna come out with a carbon free burger!😅
  24. sounds like more of a typical day in SL lol in firestorm in the phototools panel under the Gen tab try unchecking Dynamically adjust level of detail. Usualy this applies to zooming out and things dissapear, but who knows
