  1. The CORRECT method would be to apply for a developer kit. Some are easy to get and some very difficult (so I hear; I don't make clothes). YOU didn't make the mesh body and have no right to be using it for any purpose other than looking good. You did not buy the right to EXPORT the body for ANY reason when you bought the body for personal use inside SL. You really should know this. It seems very dumb to ask. So perhaps this was just a frivolous thread all along.
  2. I figured that the price was astronomical but I couldn't resist going to look. $55,000 and while it does face the canal it is "surrounded" side and back by a giant semi-floating castle build which is so not in keeping with the area. :D. So now inquiring minds know. LOL.
  3. Realize that top creators can make several thousands of US dollars on a products custom doesn't usually mean paying $5000 lindens :D. I am betting there are some good Asian skins out there -- you just need to find them. Good luck.
  4. Yes. Since I was a professional artist in RL for many years with lots of one person exhibits AND since I used the painting analogy in another copybot thread recently :D. -- TallGirl is indeed correct. You do NOT buy the copyright to a painting (or any digital material which is what we are talking about) when you buy the item. The original creator CAN sell the RIGHTS to REPRODUCE but they very seldom do. In my other comment I noted that a full perm template creator COULD do work for hire for a single person and then sell them the rights (all rights) to the item. That happens fairly often in SL. This is called "work for hire" and I did a lot of that in the past keeping NO RIGHTS (except to show the work in my portfolio). If someone had purchased full rights to that -- let's say dress dae file (maybe with Maya or Blender active files included) they could then legally put that dress on any platform, not just SL.
  5. I think ChinRey is likely correct. Assuming you bought templates (hence no uploading). You can get to the Mesh Upload test through your web based interface.
  6. It could be that there is a minimum cash out. That is less than the $10 that most Opensim grids have as a minimum cashout BECAUSE of Paypal's rules. So in most Opensim grids (and private money traders in Opensim) you can't take out any money until you have at least $10. That zero cash out just may be a "foggy" message that is up there until you have $10 worth -- most likely plus the cash out fee. Just a guess.
  7. Well in theory they "could" run it through facial recognition software as most states now (it may be federal law, I know not) take photos PRECISELY for that. And you are not allowed glasses or hats or other things I can't remember maybe peircings. The last photo I had taken at the Drivers Licence Bureau took four tries before it was accepted because of the facial recognition. So presumably (and I SO don't believe this) it is so the government (not LL) could -- if they wanted -- track down terrorists laundering money in SL. It is all about control and for better or worse The Lab is in the middle. I sometimes feel much like the Borg without the advantage of instant group communication LOL. Our only real choice is to opt out :D.
  8. @Whirly Fizzle I didn't really expect miracles. I am used to losing stuff :D. It seems unlikely that "steps to reproduce" could be found as from reports a lot of DIFFERENT events lead up to the disappearances. Mine certainly have. If it was something simple we as users could just avoid it. And so far as items seemingly being replaced after rez with items with OLDER items and permissions or items just changing permissions -- "I" wasn't even in the same sim as the thing that changed. So "I" did nothing . And the "older" item (with a different UUID of course) was never IN the sim where it happened. I have had items revert to no buy quite often on my own sim. That isn't a huge issue as someone that wants to buy USUALLY writes and I go fix. A mystery.
  9. Well along with the people reporting in this forum (and last guess that I heard only 3% of SL folks actually COME to the forums :D) I know of several people (maybe seven) personally who didn't report here but who talked to me. If a small amount of people report a problem, to "me" that means there is a fairly good chance of a much bigger issue --- since hardly anyone reports just like most folks (about 1% or less in my personal case) rate products on the Marketplace; we are typically pretty lazy folks. I can only verify MY experiences but they are definitely true. What happens with the information -- it will be interesting to see if anything does. Mostly THIS post was to warn creators who might get caught like I have twice in less than a month. I lost a fair amount of money on the first round. I plan to be more careful in the future. BUT we should NOT have to do all this extra work (IMHO).
  10. Yes, I know that. You didn't stipulate "free" in your OP. If you are anti Blender then you will have fewer options, agreed. Maybe you found an answer on the other post you made. Hope so.,
  11. Yes, well. When you need to check your vendors daily it gets beyond control. I don't check my store products (probably over a thousand) but now and then I have a customer write because an item is no longer for sale. I should say that my "vendors" are not commercial LINKED vendors and may people use those, so this might not affect them at all. All the product vendors (or products) that have changed their states (missing items or changed permissions) were all mesh items that I had made and uploaded. I can't remember any PRIM signs (I don't use tons of those anyway) that had issues. Still something to be aware of. It is getting messy -- at least for me.
  12. LOL. I am still using Qavimator and saving often, The good news is that with practice the undo key isn't as important :D. But yes, UNDO WOULD HAVE BEEN GOOD. Blender is good but there are issues with export. You might want to look at Avastar? I hear (haven't used) that it is popular for animations (of course with Blender I am guessing. Since I have never used Maya I have no real suggestions but wish you luck finding a program that you enjoy.
  13. This isn't NEW news, it has been happening for a least a decade, but it seems to be escalating and with the recent threads about MANY people losing thousands of items from their inventory at a gulp, it pretty much fits in. Today I went over to a venue that opens on the 9th to get a copy of goods to send to bloggers. I had checked and rechecked and RECHECKED my vendors (only two - one fatpack and one gacha) and sent items to an alt who doesn't have modify permissions to make sure things were correct. Like at least an hour worth of checking. The permissions had CHANGED. Both in the copy vendor AND in the gacha (oddly -- or not -- on the same items) HMMMMMM. I was particularly alert to the issues this month (hence checking ONCE AGAIN before grabbing for the group) because last month at the same venue my gacha machine had been replaced by and older version (sort of like a roleback but not of the sim as the correct gacha was brought over and placed) -- one without a script and one with -- again -- wrong permissions. I lost a lot of sales on the opening day and a half until a customer wrote. Yes, I should have checked but was overbooked and working elsewhere. I WILL BE MORE COGNIZANT in the future. So, since there is nothing we can DO about this (including checking several thousand items in stores -- so not going there) I wanted to at least warn merchants that this is happening -- and apparently at an escalated rate. It seems fairly logical to assume this has some connection to the other database issues talked about the last few weeks. Happily I didn't have any items that had become full perm. That's a relief anyway.
  14. That was pretty much confirmed in some of those threads, but they ARE long so easy to miss. My stuff disappearing had nothing to do with the nag as I empty often AFTER LOOKING THROUGH CAREFULLY :D. But yes an issue. One that needs to be addressed as it seems to be affecting more folks.
  15. Non-mutal NDAs like creators giving ALL their rights away? :D. Yes, well LOL. (that is a sort of inside joke folks.) They COULD possibly have upload the vehicles BEFORE the TOS. I actually have a few items still on the Marketplace from that era. Likely not though
  16. Well, following your logic still, the UPLOADING person even with permission to upload to Second Life (which I doubt any "royalty free" site would give) would still not hold the PRIMARY COPYRIGHT. There CAN be cases where the primary copyright holder sells their sole rights to someone -- take for example someone doing work for hire and making dress templates for a SINGLE SL user. In that case (not a lawyer) then since the person buying ALL the rights HAS those rights they can upload without being against the terms of service. That is mentioned left-handedly in the LL TOS (at least as I read it). That is the only case that I can think of that keeps within the TOS. Public Domain goods (and most likely CCO items although that is still a bit gray) are "legal" -- again so far as I can tell from listening to the RL attorneys (but they didn't always agree either). It isn't like The Lab is going to actually ENFORCE their rules; we know at least from history that is very unlikely. But people uploading from third party resellers are breaking the LL TOS as well as (in all the sites I checked) the TOS of the 3D resellers.
  17. I have been fashion and design blogging for over nine years with over 4600 posts so that was always here and popular -- of course you might have missed the long time trend. I did role play for less than two hours and hated it. We all find what we want to find -- or we can. You guys just need to look a little harder :D.
  18. And I "vote for" top right. I seem to always take the bad boys (not just the avatar) LOL. That's a good look. I would like to get some male gear for a friend or myself (the friend would be more helpful though for photos as I can't be in the same place at once except on Opensim). So can you tell me whose skin that is. I am SO not familiar with guy stuff. You DO always of course "look good".
  19. Well after a few tries with "fixes" that didn't fix, I did a workround and edited the texture in my graphics program and tinted the metal slighting and you can't SEE the issue although it wasn't fixed. Inserting a screenshot but for whatever reason I don't seem to be able to MOVE the screenshot. Will try again or come back and edit OK. Back. So at one time that "leg" (it is a round table with top and bottom) was over where the now problematic face is. I moved the leg and filled in the faces that were left empty. In that process Blender got confused and flipped the vertices (not the face and I know you know that but not everyone knows that is even possible LOL). So what happened when baking and in world is that the face left took the light differently. It was VERY obvious when a specular shine was used. Again, it is worked around this time and once every three years when I work every day -- it isn't a huge issue. But it is VERY NICE to know they are working on this. I could have deleted the bottom of the table of course and started over so to speak, but I was trying to see if the methods given worked. I will go back and look at the other suggestions but if there will be a PLANNED new method, that is best. Thanks so much for the update! And now I FINALLY figured out the photo inserting. Sometimes I am spectacularly dense. Onward.
  20. While I don't have a Catwa head, most mesh head creators include a basic skin as a bonus item. Now and then they are of excellent quality but mostly mesh head folks -- well, make HEADS. So yes, you could easily find a better skin for your head, but you will need to shop and not all skin appliers are equal. Be sure and ALSO pay attention to the body skin that comes with the head as some skin makers do very nice heads and pretty lousy bodies. You may also be able to get a group gift skin for that head that you like so check out that option when you are shopping. Meanwhile you have the default skin for that head, so you won't have to go around all "white" when looking. While I don't KNOW this, I suspect the blank white head would be the same price without the skin. Be sure and DEMO the skins on your head before buying.
  21. Long ago and far away (like several years) there was a post on flipped normals -- VERTICES NOT FACES. At that time you could fix them in Maya but not in Blender. I had an issue back then but dealing with it was beyond my skill level. Still, I copied down the info onto a stickynote. Amazingly I still had it on my desktop. It reads: possible vertex normal fix --- Select one of the 2 Quads Triangulate the Quad Mesh -> Edges -> Rotate Edge CW Check if the problem goes away. If so, then keep the triangulated quad as it is so that upon export the rotated edge keeps as it is. I can try that, but my actual question is -- is there a real fix for this now in Blender? For the problem I have, it isn't looking like it will fix things. I can't find those threads. Thanks. PS. Tried that. Didn't help. Any other suggestions appreciated.
  22. That is because the mesh isn't rigged optimally :D. A typical problem with long skirts that aren't full. If YOU made the dress, then it is back to the weight-painting drawing board. If this is purchased mesh with no active file included (and that is typical) then there isn't really anything you can do. Sometimes you can be creative with your texture. I guess a SOLID color in the skirt area might be acceptable and put some pattern on the top part. Sorry.
  23. Glad you worked it out. It is tricky for some folks to rotate huds on screen, I get that. Hence my rez suggestion. Likely nothing you did. Lots of odd database things going on lately :D. But now you are SMARTER!!!
  24. Yes, but the problem is that people don't understand the terms royalty free and copyright and what you are allowed to DO and NOT DO depending on a company's TOS. I had real life copyright issues and so much homework was mandatory. Some folks believe that if you buy a painting you have the right to reproduce that painting on coffee cups for example. UNLESS the person ALSO bought that right along with the painting, the original copyright holder still holds that right. We, according to the LL TOS still have primary copyrights to our work. The big problem was (and is ) that The Lab can pretty much to anything they want with our work. I doubt they ever would because that would herald the end of the platform and they are not stupid people :D. That's a good thing for us. TurboSquid is a ROYALTY FREE site where you can purchase items for many uses (apparently for Sansar) BUT the file needs to be CONTAINED and ONLY USED within that platform. According to the 2013 TOS that is no longer guaranteed. From what I understand of Sansar, work will be "published" meaning that it would be contained within that platform. Screenshot from Turbosquid taken today. Easy enough to go there and read what their terms are :D.
  25. I think you need to do some research on copyrights. The whole point (well much) of the August 2013 TOS change was giving Linden lab copyrights to creators items. Not full copyrights but enough that they could sell them legally on other platforms or use them for their own. They owned Desura at one time and many people thought they were going to sell SL creator files using that platform. That didn't happen and whatever the actual purpose behind the change in the TOS really doesn't matter now. But it was made clear (although it was never clear if the whole TOS was legal) that the only items that you could legally upload were public domain items or ones you had full copyrights too, not "royaty free" items. There are gray areas for sure, and if you want to start another thread on this then go forth. Check the ARCHIVES to see what was going on then and read section 2.3 now. The point was (and is) that the change in the Linden Lab TOS made it impossible for the TOS of other providers to be followed. Namely it gave Linden Lab the right to resell any of "our" products, thus negating the TOS of the other companies. Here is one example (screenshot taken today) from Textures.com -- then CGtextures. You can choose to interpret the TOS any way you want. I am just repeating what the attorneys said.
