Innula Zenovka
At yesterdays SL21B with the Product Operations team, both Derrick and Patch Linden revealed more about LL's announcement at the end of last year that the Lab is turning its attention to "the spicier side of Second Life." Without ruling out the idea completely, Derrick said there are no plans at this point to expand Zindra. However, Patch went on to explain that, Quote We have a new project that is an initiative that aims to streamline the onboarding process for new Second Life residents interested in adult content to come into Second Life. It will consist of a new adult-centric welcoming experience. It will introduce them to mature content. It will primarily focus on helping them to acclimate to the platform. It is a work in progress. We've got quite a bit to do here. Along with our other various projects, it has quite a few different features to it that include community living spaces, commercial environments, continental size land masses. It's a whole new look and feel and approach to a new way that we might think of having adult community in Second Life. So we're going to, over the next six to eight months, be working on this in the background and you'll hear more about it in the future. We're super excited that we're getting to do this particular project and I think folks are going to love it. It will be an approach unique to its own, and folks both new and old will be able to come in and enjoy adult content in a new environment and setting that I think will be very fitting for it. Stay tuned, there'll be more to come in the future. 5 4

WereBeast Alpha
It is interesting however some states like Texas and Kansas are limiting access to adult content in laws that have passed through will this affect those states for adult content?

Texas is huge, but is it big enough to block the progress for the rest of the world? And besides that, adult content isn't exactly new to Second Life, so if it is allowed now, I guess it will be allowed then too. Ingrid Ingersoll
I just hope "streamlining the onboarding process for new Second Life residents interested in adult content" doesn't lead those users to think that everyone in world is there for the same reason. That might be disappointing for them and possibly a bit of a nuisance to those who aren't in sl for that.

Our mission has consistently been to try to foster opportunities for creators, including those in the adult content community. Since the launch of Zindra and Horizons, we've been exploring ways to serve and expand our community of creators and folks interested in mature content. In alignment with that mission, I'm just going to say that we have a new project that is an initiative that aims to streamline the onboarding process for new Second Life residents interested in adult content to come into Second Life. It seems perfectly reasonable to me that, some 12 or so years after Zindra was built, LL would want to embark on something new, reflecting both what they've learned from Zindra and Horizons and latest building techniques and styles, rather than expand what many people (well, I did, certainly) thought at the time was a dreadful idea, poorly executed. They're limiting access in the sense that they're requiring age verification for sites that are primarily devoted to explicit sexual content. You'd need to ask a US lawyer, of course, but the Texas law refers to "an Internet website (including a social media platform)" of which more than one third of its content is sexual material likely to be harmful to minors, and that doesn't seem to me obviously to catch SL. It might do, but sites like PornHub are the more obvious target. 4

Yeah, I'd hate to have new users who selected an "adult content" radio button when creating an account rez into some simulacra of 1980's Times Square. Not to mention "adult content" means different things to different people. I'm sort of wincing at the thought of LL being in charge of this experience. Ever been to the regions only accessible to premium members, one being an airport and the other a racing dirt track? They are so pathetically lame that it's comical.

Well, adult SL is like one third of the private sims and growing,, but only a small percentage of Linden owned sims is rated adult. Add that demand for adult rated land on Linden owned regions is extremely high (pricing reflects that). It´s about time that Linden Lab adresses that by expanding their offer.

Texas is the Heart of Murica, and Murica is the Land of hypocrisy. Didn't you get the memo? Texas has/had a law stating that making, selling and owning battery operated "adult toys" was perfectly legal, but telling ANYBODY what such a toy was for, was a criminal offence. There were a couple of cases of people hosting "Anne summers" parties in their homes being reported by undercover puritan vigilantes, and prosecuted. 2
Ineffable Mote
The word 'literally' gets overused, but I don't think anyone has(or has ever had) a problem finding or experiencing adult content and such on the platform, so what exactly is the purpose of streamlining there? From the wording above, it's watered down to adult centric and spice-like, and it specifically says "introduce them to mature content". So, the actual path is somewhere between lame and a dead-end, at best, right out of the gate. Also, it's presumably less about the actual content than identity politics, and their related communities. Maybe interest in Belliseria is petering out after 5 years, and they're looking to regenerate interest, taking the cookie cutters in other directions to further maximize certain markets. belindacarson
Personally, I'll be watching how they ask for RL ID, and the flurry of GDPR complaints they'll get asking to process private info without consent.

Sort of Zindra, but maybe it will work this time? Or probably not. In any case, I have mixed feelings about that. And I do worry about the law of unintended consequences. 9 minutes ago, Ineffable Mote said: From the wording above, it's watered down to adult centric and spice-like, and it specifically says "introduce them to mature content". In Canada, we have a largish chain of "adult" stores called The Stag Shop, which has become in some ways the McDonald's of porn shops. Glossy, well-marketed, and relatively "safe." I can imagine LL-created adult content sort of falling into that category.

I'm not commenting on how effective it might be -- I just don't understand why you'd call this "identity politics". 2
Ceka Cianci
Oh it sounds like a an adult version of Bellisseria might be coming.. I'll jump on that when it comes. Let alone it's gonna be newer and more to explore. I hope there is lots of water like there is in Bellisseria, that or maybe it'll be set up like a city or something really cool like that..

I think also it might be taking that content that got shoved in the far end of the rooms corner years ago and getting it back out there more.. Like it used to be when there was just the two ratings.. Maybe they are embracing that it was a mistake to do that in an adult platform.. I mean adult land is crazy high, but with a premium or premium plus account, they might be able to have a little place of their own, where they can advertise get togethers and things like that.. I'm sure there would be some rules and restrictions still, it being LL owned.. But on a smaller scale become it's own lil Amsterdam kind of thing.. hehehe
