Wait.. Which 80's? :P

The 1980's..

Ironically, the only character who could resist "The Game" was the "child" (Wesley Crusher), as I recall..

ETA: I think Wesley was "immune" because the adults had um...inappropriately pleasurable responses when playing the game.

So, here's a question ...

Can anyone do the same and set up a casino now? Exactly like this one? Same games, same rules, same pay to play? Only difference is that those L to buy tokens go to a resident?

What a really excellent question, Katherine.

And I'm willing to bet we're going to learn the answer -- someone out there is going to try to do exactly that. And they'll likely be competitive, assuming it's permitted: most resident entrepreneurs aren't going to be inclined to gouge quite so much for chips.

At our lunch date today my husband said something similar. He thinks in like 2 weeks there will be plenty of Casino's in SL and with the amount that LL charges, you can still make a huge profit when taking just half of their prices.

Randomly relevant geeky tidbit from yesterday's Simulator User Group:

Quote

[2023/05/09 12:04]  Rider Linden: Tomorrow we have a new simulator rolling to Bluesteel.  That one actually only has a few configuration changes on to help support the new Social Casino.

The Helios Casino region is currently running Second Life Server 2023-04-21.579747 the release notes for which don't reveal much of interest, and that's the same version one of my Mainland haunts has been running since at least last week's restart. They did say "configuration changes" and they did say "tomorrow" the new simulator would be rolling, so in a few hours, presumably, Bluesteel regions will get a "new simulator" with "only" "a few configuration changes" that "help support the new Social Casino."

Yeah, I too don't glean much from any of that. Maybe "configuration changes" have something to do with the new "Social Casino" Experience we all have enabled, added to our Allowed lists upon arrival at the region. Or something totally unrelated.

Incidentally, I think it's a quite good Mole build. Besides the good texturing currently visible, I imagine it's also ready with the glTF materials but I don't know any way to tell for sure until PBR is enabled here.

halve the prices( will still be a nice amount to put in the wallet) , add a nice DJ there for some hours ... and you'll take that other one that's the subject here, out of business within a week.

But guess what the answer wíll be?.... i guess a big no no

Caused it's totally impossible for a teenager to make an account and simply lie about their age..

My point being, concerns about anyone under 18 in SL who isn't registered as such and accessing Moderate and Adult regions, isn't what this particular thread is about.  There's a whole other thread about age verification.  Deal with that issue, there's no issue with children getting addicted to gambling in SL.

Hopefully a smart entrepreneur will have actual "employees" at the venues, to add to the "Social" and "roleplay" aspects.

Well I guess at least we got some neat new LSL recently that was probably made to support this massive waste of time.

Of course I say that, but I bet half the people complaining about it are going to be in there dumping money into the system anyway. This is, after all, a platform where $40 is seen as a bargain to change a username.

Hopefully and that way more people can profit off of it and earn shinies so maybe now escorting will be less attractive. Lol Well nah but you get the idea.

But LL surely opened Pandora's box with this one x3

Cray-Cray idea about how LL may market this idea to others:

- Purchase a Private Region ("island") complete with Social Casino Enhancements!

- Comes with Lab-Approved Social Casino machines, and Lab-Approved ATM's!

- Comes with Official Linden Lab Grid-Wide Social Casino Experience!

- Tokens are usable at any Official Social Casino Private Region!

- Social Casino Private Region Does not require "Skill Gaming Region" applications!

I love all of this and it sounds exactly right: Why should the Lab go to all the bother of actually operating social casinos? Instead they can skim the monthly fees for keeping the regions online, which after all is their core competency.

Also the required, pre-packaged solution approach means the private "casinos" compete to differentiate themselves on something other than "creative" UX designs (so disastrous for mesh bodies, for example). Events, scene setting, amenities, RP services, social ice-breaking (non-casino) games, etc.

That is, it "sounds exactly right" if these things actually draw attendance. It could happen.

I can't imagine them becoming a destination for me, but honestly I hate this way less than I hated gachapon.

It could also draw "sales" of the special "Social Casino" Private Regions!

Users would run these much, much better than the example provided, with employees, shops, entertainment, etc.

ETA: Sorry, missed this part of your resply:

Why .. buy a region and install gambling games that only take money.

No. No one is going to play this. No one is going to buy into this.

We have free to play slot machines that no one uses because that's a garbage experience.

You know what trying to be social with someone who's playing a slot machine is .. rude.

That's seeing these places as casinos, despite there being no money at stake. That's the same as thinking of SL dance clubs as clubs where dancing happens, when that's just the excuse, the surface performance ritual for a social engagement.

As I said, these wouldn't be destinations I'd personally be interested in…

… unless there's live music from a performer I'd like to hear—and I gotta say, having people in the background pretending to spin slots (or whatever these games do) is a whole lot less aggravating than suffering through host-induced  gesturbation at music clubs.

Granted, that form of attendance wouldn't make the venue any money unless I stopped over and blew a few L$s on the games. I dunno, seems more fun than just throwing money at the venue's tip jar.

Agreed, plus:  I know "for certain" that in RL, old folks who play "nickle slots" are probably also into it for the social aspects.

LOL  Doubt it, you might get something like "sorry, this whole row of machines are taken"...try over there > .

Nickel machines oh my gah.  I played the dollar ones.  But, I've only played a few times in my life.

I actually hate gambling.

I wish they'd bring back Gacha WITHOUT the rare and just have commons.  I like getting surprise surprises or random prizes.

Something interesting of note, is Ebay is full of Dopamine rush stuff and it usually revolves around something that is "rare".  Same with auctions, people bid up stuff like crazy because it's rare.  I like Gacha because it was like real life.  Taking a stroll along some out of the way shop to find something unique.  I never needed nor desired the whole collector's set nor even the rare.  I just bought what I liked and it was cool...like it's so cool...I found this.  For some Gacha people it was about finding unique things.

As far as hanging around a Casino to win more spins, I'm not too hip on it as a passtime.

A few fun facts and photos...

As a Premium member, you get 120 free chips per day. There are three types of blackjack tables. The tables beneath the dome have a 40 chip minimum bet. Those in the Low Stakes area have a 2 chip minimum bet. And those in the High Stakes area have a minimum bet in excess of 426 chips (I suspect 500). I could not even sit at that table.

The bar is nice and, as Love has mentioned, has an anubis-like bartender. Unfortunately, no drinks are served as the bottles and glasses are decor.

As others have mentioned, the build itself is of high-quality. However, I find it suboptimal as casino design. I would have put the High Stakes area in its own room, something more luxurious. High rollers like special treatment. And where is the showroom? You have to have one of those if only so the VIPs can cut in line.

Most of the people I have known went to the casinos not for the one-armed bandits or the booze but for the prime rib buffets. Anything else was secondary to the prime rib. And it isn't wasn't expensive!

Thanks Harjo!

Hard to find "normal, day-to-day" buffets the last few years since Piccadilly and Luby's left or closed (pre-pandemic even).
