Yes if you only want to chat use Radegast, it's much lighter.

In the past there were many more text clients, Metabolt, Slitechat and some not TPV approved. (all based on libOpebMetaverse)

On Android use Lumiya. Hasn't been updated for years cause developer left the game but still works

On IOS try .. idk, my last one was the 5S.

Going to say that when use to be on imvu people did like if you are afk to long they kick you out of a room most places places in sl don't want people just stand around.

Cost nothing to im probable afk and giving them time to make a cuppa before kicking them .

It's a balance, right? Some clubs are deserted. I try them out occasionally, and NEVER see anyone.

Some clubs are 95% stand around, 5% dancing. No local.

Some clubs are maybe 50/50. I never see 95% dancing. 

All of that is OK. Somewhere to suit everybody.

Personally I prefer the 50% dancing venues with local chat free of spam.

I like a few IMs. I may send a few IMs.

The only two places which stay consistent for UK time is Fogbound and Muddys. The balance is good and they stay busy.

I don't think a lot of AFK people are doing it on purpose to ruin SL.  I go AFK a lot but I never deliberately go AFK.  I'm just absent minded.  I get up to get a drink or something and then I realize the dishes need to be done or the light highlights the dust on the book case or the phone rings and the next thing I know a few hours have gone by since I was last at my desk.... Sometimes I don't get back to the keyboard until the next day.  Sometimes I'm still at my desk, I just read an email and then went to look something up on Google and before you know I've got 15 tabs open and my sl session is buried underneath somewhere.

Muddy's is utterly confused.  I'm a 5'10 female using Maiteya Petite which apparently in the eyes of many 8ft tall SL'ers makes me a child... and I've been asked to leave Muddy's for being too young looking? they said they don't allow 'teen' avis, whatever that means.

 

I don't tend to fight the stupidity much and just said okay bye but I really don't understand that place, even if we're going to side with the increasingly dumb mob who think being a more realistic size on SL makes you a child doesn't Muddy's proudly claim (PG) and family-friendly etc in their description?

My avatar is 5'9" and I've been to Muddy's numerous times.  I've never had anyone question the age of my avatar.  I've also seen avatars shorter than me there.  Few places go by height alone anymore since avatars as a whole have gotten shorter over the years.  They generally take the overall look into account when deciding if you look too young.

I was surprised too, never had an issue before.

Either way I'm not going again if they're going to be like that, concerned about the amount of abuse that is being put towards people who dare to not be some giant assed Amazonian in SL these days.

Yes you seem to misunderstand... it is Family Friendly

that doesn't allow kids/teens including teen looking avatars.

Similar to making an omelette without using eggs, it makes perfect sense.

No they don't. 'Drive' is the wrong word. AFK avatars are bound to cause some people, who haven't been in SL long enough to know about bots, to go away and not get involved in SL, thinking that the people here are an ignorant lot because they won't talk or even answer questions. Bots are probably the cause sometimes but they don't "drive" people away.

My avatar is 5'9" and have never been asked to leave, but I look like a woman in her mid-30s. And yeah, I'm a height snob too .. 8' tall SLers asking me to dance at the formal places? *giggles*

Best post eva. I had a joke about afk SL people in a movie I'm making and I just cut it this morning for time but I think I'll add it back in. I run into a LOT of afk people. The good side of it is we can go AFK! So many games boot you if you stand still for 15 seconds like League of Legends or Battlegrounds in World of Warcraft. But I guess they don't want anyone in a fight or battle to be doing nothing but yea why not  Best thing ever is to be a peace activist in a PVP war game. I played PUBG last person standing game and never fought anyone. I just hid and made 2nd place a bunch of times.

I've never been there myself,

But from the sound of it, their version of family friendly, might be more like what SFW is for image links. More of a who in the room is looking at the computer screen, RL family friendly. Rather than an actual SL family friendly.

For those not knowing what SFW is, it means Safe For Work. where NSFW would be Not Safe For Work.

I was chatting with one of my girls the other day, shes a mother of 5, her youngest is 13 and she took his phone cause he would stay all night awake pretending to be a 25+ year old and flirt with 20-24 year old chicks online on social apps, so next day at school he would be sleepy or try to skip it...kids these days are so funny.

Kids need their sleep for better development because there is a window for that. A phone is probably the last thing they need as impressionable as kids are and as impressionable as the many places of internet tries to be.

Our kids asked for a phone, we told them when they are legally old enough to go out and get one themselves, they can have one. It's hard enough raising 3 boys without adding all that extra clutter into the mix.. hehehehe

Idk .. personally if my son was looking to date chicks online i would probably get him an escort

so he could have some real fun and tell his mom that we went fishing. It's a matter of principles.

I never really went to that club before and just kind of thinking it may be a possibility of what they meant by Family friendly..  Because i know when I'm in SL myself, I always have an ear out and awareness of where the boys are.. Just in case someone isn't rezzing right or the many different things that can show up on my screen anywhere in world..

Even on the MP I have to watch out when a search pops up, because you just never know when a frenis or bagina is gonna stand out on your screen and a 7 year old that you didn't know was in the back ground saying something like.. That looks like a pee pee..

Oh ffs so what do you do about the avatars, they always are naked until they are loaded

regardless of the zone rating so the whole "rating" thingie is literally a facade.

(Pft kids being around is so restrictive,  don't want to tell you my thoughts about the "quiet" sex couples have due to kids.)
