My youngest couldn't taste or smell for a good bit after covid.. He was actually the one that had it the worst..

He had three days of symptoms.. That second day had me not leaving his side for a moment because of him having a hard time breathing.. then it was much better on the third day.. But after, it took a good while for his sense of taste and smell to come back..

He never really said anything about smelling something bad that I can remember.. He's a boy and not even 10 yet.. I don't even think stink bothers them at that age.. At least I don't think so, as much as I have to dig and find what's stinking up a room that they started to eat and ditched in the closet or under the bed or where ever I track it too..

Why they ditch food is beyond me..They aren't gonna get in trouble for having it.. hehehehe

I miss the smell and taste of proper coffee. I have the memory of it strangely enough and absolutely crave it. I've never known anything quite like this before and it certainly wasn't one of the things on my bucket list!

Hope your son's sense of taste and smell is fully back. To little girls all boys smell bad (or did from what I can remember), although teenage boys ... ugh, I won't go there.

Socks. Boys of all ages seem to smell of feet! And it's not always coming from their feet. I have the memory of that too.

My brother - aged 65 - still does that thing of ditching food. He's disabled and I give him food in the kitchen or living room, but somehow he manages to migrate some things up to his room. How and why do they do this? Do they want to attract rodents? Tee hee

My peeve today is also the thing I have learned today.

A new word.

Cacosmia.

And I have this. Apparently it is something people can get post-covid, and that is why I have got it.

I had no sense of smell then little sense of smell after having covid several weeks ago. I can taste maybe as third as well as I used to be able to and just enjoy food mostly for the sensation of salt and sweet or texturally.

But there has just been this foul smell wherever I've gone (and I am sooooo incredibly fussy about personal hygiene, and where I sit), and it turns out to be cacosmia which, for those who like myself did not know about this, in the Merriam Webster dictionary, is defined as follows:

cacosmia

noun

ca·cos·mia kə-ˈkäs-mē-ə  ka-
-ˈkäz-

: a hallucination of a disagreeable odor

"A hallucination"! So I am imagining I can smell something like faeces or something burning wherever I go! I checked all the electrical appliances in my house yesterday thinking I had an electrical wire burning somewhere.

T.M.I.

Peeve peeve peeve

Took three months for my sense of taste and smell to return to what it was.

At first it was interesting, like... I dunno I found it pretty neat. Not everything since it made some things taste and smell awful but I was geeking out at how this was even possible. It gets old fast though.

It should eventually return to normal though, my only lingering effect is that vinegar still smells different to before. Not hugely but that one has stuck around, presumably some nerves didn't really recover fully.

SL Pet Peeve #8: Bleeping, blipping virtual mobile devices in world.  Bad enough we have to deal with in RL.

RL Pet Peeve #8: Bleeping, blipping mobile phones. Especially when the user does a very stupid thing.  Example is in our RL bar and one person actually went up to the stage where a band was playing ans asked them to pause so he could make his call.  The singer added a line added a line "I know it is fall --- but go outside to make the call!"  The entitled person got mad and started yelling before one of the barkeeps 86ed him out of the place.

Peeve: When someone asks me to friend them on Sunday night, then me saying I would be not able to be free until next weekend..

Then IM's me last night and starts to get dramatic because I haven't said Hi to them during the few minutes I might log in during the week.. I didn't say a word and just unfreinded them..

Talk about a red flag..

This is why I don't friend anymore.. I should have known better..

Oh my gosh, I can't stand people who become obsessed with how long it takes you to IM them or if you don't IM them.. they act like you just did the worst thing in the world. Playing the victim, all about them.

Ya, I much rather they show that right away rather than it showing up down the road.. Either way, I'll still cut the connection just as quick.. But sooner is always better for both  of us I think..

I don't friend people much anyways anymore, so it just caught me off guard  some, I guess.. hehehe

I got a new washing machine, after not having one for a few years.  When I look at the manual I feel as though my brain has shrunk by half.  I'm wondering if something bad will happen from me not pressing a vital button.  And why is the panel showing me a picture of a sock - press this in 5 seconds or you lose a sock forever?

On the other hand I just got some cinnamon buns so I'll pretend I need to feed my brain with sugar to recover. :)

What I do is just go by the labels on the clothes, then figure out how to do that on the washer..  I figure the rest of the buttons that I don't use, I never needed anyways.. hehehe

What i would really love, is a washer dryer combo, so I don't have to take them out of the washer and put them in the dryer..

If mine ever goes out  or I find one that I really like, we're getting one of those.. hehehe

For me that was give or take a year ago. Someone in the family combined the trifecta of being easily infected (heavy smoker), not giving a single damn and constantly heading out to socialise.

He's fine now!

MY sense of taste however noped out after the fifth infection, which funny enough I didn't even feel sick foranymore. Took me til now to get it somewhat back. Can only really taste salt and texture or very strong sweetness. On the upside, it finally forced me to learn cooking after having lived a life of everyone comparing my cooking to flamethrowers.

What I meant to say is that I empathise with you. We don't quite notice something properly til it's gone aye?

ooh maybe the sock is the "I forgot a sock!" button I hear they have now, I saw some washing machines that let you open the door at the start of the filling cycle to put it in.

Who knows. My washing machine has a million programs and I use exactly two of them. I always figure just find the one that takes 30 minutes and the one that takes 60 minutes, learn where both are and ignore everything else.

For whatever reason it always wants to wash at 60c though so I also had to learn the button to change that to 30 or 40.

I used to know him way back in the AW days. He was always "obsessed" with wiping Gor from the face of the internet.

I read his pages on Gor a long time ago. I'm surprised his website is still up and even continues to be updated.

They have to make their dollars somehow, don't they?
It is either paying or watch commercials. Makes somehow sense to me.

They've been making it the whole time.. They're just wanting more of it now..

Thanks for removing any little bit of guilt I have for blocking those damm YouTube ads!

Press it and see what happens :)

Fun Fact: If you spell "SOCKS", in Spanish it is "Eso si, que es".

Roughly translated to English, "It is what it is"!

God knows I don't want to get into the vagaries of geopolitical controversy here, and I won't respond to anyone who tries to bait me into such a discussion, but . . .

. . . I've spent much of the past 3 weeks living under a very dark cloud because of recent world events. Who needs Hallowe'en when there is so much real horror in evidence? I've been alternately outraged, depressed, deeply saddened . . . and the sorts of things in which I normally take refuge, such as SL, suddenly all seem more than a little trivial.

And I'm not seeing a clear way to wake up from this nightmare.

Peeve: Everything happens in "cycles".  It WILL always get worse, and it WILL always get better.

We have two options. Either stop looking or become recluses. I'm choosing both because I saw a long time ago that it isn't going to get any better. I'm sorry. 🤗
