Why would breeding be considered a gacha?

If I play a dog breeding game where I breed a poodle with a Labrador in the hopes of getting a labradoodle but get a normal poodle instead, a lootbox mechanic the same as a gacha?

I am unsure on Linden Labs' response to the question which is why I have asked it. Some of our breeders are very concerned, so we are trying to get the correct information ie the question.

I do wonder if the 2 food model needs to be changed to accommodate the new rules and TOS.

I look forward to feedback from the Lindens.

breedables can be different as i talked like 12 pages ago (at least). some breedables need actual food you have to pay for that they actually "DO" breed but the outcome is actually random with said traits. So technically, you pay for breeding AKA a random "thing" you will get out of it AKA a gamble.

The question about the breeding being tied to gacha came from the fact that apparently there are one or more breedables where you must give them a certain food just to breed (not just to live) and the outcomes of breeding are random.  So does that make buying the food that causes the breeding to be a gacha purchase?

Sounds kind of far fetched and pushing the definitions, but who knows.

same could be again said about powderbox sales or fishing games. LL did a bad job with putting up this post and rule. i said so many times they srsly need to be more specific...

I think they figured out pretty quick from this thread that they need to get specifics out pretty quick - hopefully tomorrow.

Hell, 38 pages in 10 hours is quite a bit of feedback on the topic.

I agree with you @LittleMe Jewellbut it is a question we need to clarify. We do not have a secondary food specifically for breeding, some do. and that is the issue - if those breedables that DO include that, will need to roll out an update promptly to remove it - those like us will not need to which is the main thing.

But I appreciate all your questions and I look forward to LL giving us some direction and clarification.

Que mocking of those upset of something they've considered part of their SL experience for years. Money I throw into SL is already out of my pocket. What I chose or choose to do with it for my own enjoyment shouldn't be of concern to anyone. I think people should be upset and it should be expected as it's what we do in game for enjoyment.

What difference is there from that to me looking at a wall with items for sale in an SL shop and buying the item I want.

Based on your system I can spin the board unlimited times to get the item I want without paying money. Why would a person even bother with such a system, standing around spinning in frustration trying to get something that they haven't even paid for yet.

Your idea is the equivalent of a single picture Casper vend system where I use the arrows to change the item and then pay for the one I want except rather than me clicking the arrow the item picture changes every 10 seconds - like some do now. LMAO.

OK, so you clearly have zero concept of the suggestion.

1. The gacha is history, you cannot keep it.

2. You stated that the purpose of the gacha was to let people have a fun way to not have to choose.  Why on Earth would someone keep spinning and not simply buy the freakin' thing?  Those people would not have used the gacha anyway, they'd have simple clicked and bought.

3. My suggestion was a way to approximate the experience.  I thought it was pretty plain to see, but I guess not.  The bottom line is that I saw someone losing an option, and thought Hey, I have an idea that will add some element of fun back....  Sorry, this is what I get for trying to offer ideas, and why I do not normally help unless I'm getting paid.  Just forget I mentioned it, and kiss your gacha goodbye.  Because the upshot of this is that the machine is on death row, it has no appeals left, and the execution date has been set.  R.I.P

The difference with the Powder Pack, hunt and event gifts (which should be free, btw as they are called gifts/prizes) is that everyone gets the same thing.  There is no rares or a chance of getting anything better than anyone else.  Whether you like it or not is the only chance you take.   And why DO they charge for hunt prizes or event gifts?  They never used to do that.

I agree. I should be able to do what I want with my L$. I was referring to people who will inevitably complain that Creator XYZ is now selling the items that would have ben 50L a pull for 500L or more in a normal vendor to make up for that lost income. It WILL happen lol. Or the creators will stop creating and even leave SL.

It can if the random selection comes before you pay.  Push a button, you get a random item displayed. Buy it or walk away.

From what Patch has said so far, yes, it seems as if that would work.  But then again, I am in the very small group here that isn't an international law expert.  But yup, seems reasonable

they will leave sl anyway since the gacha thing was basicly one of the last things they could pull of to make sl shopping somewhat fun. Look at big events which literally where a full on gacha event - like gacha guild or Lighthouse gachas. Those were always fun to look at and go by and enjoy the stuff there. And yes, gacha items which basicly were created with "luck" in mind WILL be more expensive to make up the lose, no doubt about that but some things literally "cant exist" without the random factor. And im not talking about "droprates n rareties", im only talking about a fair random chance to get x item with an equal dropchance - like collecting and trading cards. those simply CANT exist without an random factor in mind anymore in SL.

You breed 'x' horse with 'y' horse without needing food you get a random breed or trait. This is not a gacha or lootbox mechanic.

Introducing the need to feed the animals to force them to breed isn't a gacha or lootbox mechanic as you are just implimenting a system to force the breeding to take place.

But I suppose lab may see it differently but I highly doubt it.

I honestly think creators will just revert back to basic sets instead of the extravagant ones you see in gachas. I got 3 sets today from an event, spent less than people typically do for fatpacks with a gazillion shades of solids. I feel like these will be few and far between now. Or basically there will be little motivation for creators to make stuff like this.

look for the "Fennux" breedables.

They literally need only food to breed, nothing much else.

If you dont feed them they get just sick, not able to breed with this status. Next to this, they can only breed for a limited time of their life which is about~50 days. after that, they cant breed anymore, making them only "cosmetic pets", basicly. So in other words: if you dont PAY them food, they are nothing more worth than a sick pet.

So if you dont feed them they basically become too sick to breed and consequently reduces their life span and breeding time. How is that a gacha? That's how normal husbandry works and the mechanic in SL is replicating that o.O.

If I had even a single L$ for every time someone claims that SL "will be dead"......................

lol. I was just having a convo with my Sister about this. I've been in SL for over 14 1/2 years and have heard that every time there was some sort of big change. Someone always says it. I remember way back when REAL gambling was fine in SL. Casinos, Poker, slot machines, sports betting...etc. It was all fine at one point. After LL was forced by laws to ban it, we heard "SL will be dead because of this!" When LL merged Teen grid: "Oh noes, kids will take over SL and that will be the end of it!!" When LL implemented mesh: "Ahhh!!! People who don't make mesh will close their stores, creators will leave and SL will be finished!!" When Sansar was announced: "LL will abandon SL and it will be officially dead!!!" LOL. Yet none of that was true.  But what would be true in "SL being dead" is if LL didn't comply with the laws and are sued or worse, shut down entirely because of non compliance.

This whole Gacha thing is not LL's fault. They are complying with the laws that will actually keep them out of legal trouble and in turn, keep SL alive and well for everyone.

It's not a decision made by Linden Lab, except the decision being that they don't want the company to be shut down altogether. The alternative is to pay a 10 million Euro fine and more fines weekly if they don't comply. There is no way Second Life would survive at all.

So the choices are:

1) No gachas

2) No Second Life.

Absolutely this! I'd rather have SL, than know that LL bowed down to the ones that prize their greatest gacha ultra rare flashing neon something relating to adult relations sign.

Also, I don't want LL hiking up even more fees on us in order to pay for legal fees because some people are butt-hurt over not being able to make their income off by third party means.
Having said that...

I am. Still. Happy! Woooo

what i understand is that its because the mystery of not knowing what you are paying for, so what about skill gaming like no devil? why isnt that being effected. are subscription boxes aloud? group gift/group fees as we dont know what creators are going to bring out for a group gift either! but we pay to suport them and get the future group gifts! the thing is i know im from the uk but were adults we should be able to do what we want with our money i get restricting children, i even get making strict rules for gacha machines like has to show the rate of a rare drop kinda thing its just so sudden and abrupt its very baffling as it doesnt cover these other things either!

So typical of LL to address this issue so quickly after having ignored the issue of copybotting for so many years.

Since resales are still "okay" LL wont lose out financially as they make a nice cut [10%] from MP sales of gacha. (of course!)

Copybotting will now increase. If a creator decides NOT to open up their gacha packs for sale as copy, then the current gacha item will become even harder to come by therefore inflating its worth, hence the temptation to copybot by lowlifes will correspondingly explode.

I hope LL has a plan to combat copybotting. [Cue laughing out loud]

Yes, I AM biased as I own a gacha resale market.

SL has completely lost its worth to me.

Enjoy your sex sims.
