So, people can break into your house, while you're home, and engage in a sexual act right in front of you? Is this a thing on SL?

Last night I was spending time with a friend on here at his place. We were on his chair talking when all of a sudden something at one of his windows caught my eye. It was a woman peaking in! Her face was right up to the window. She stayed there for a considerable amount of time. I never took my eyes off of her because I was a little bit spooked. lol How did she find out there were people in this house? My friend had no idea who she was.

Well, the next thing we know she and and a male avatar that was not visible at the window come right in like they owned the place!  They go right over to my friend's couch, and immediately she begins to perform a sex act on her lover. I was stunned at their comfort level of breaking in. It was as if they walked in their own private living room. I was part pissed at the rudeness, but inwardly amused at their mischievousness. My friend couldn't see them because his settings are messed up, so I told them to leave, at least 5 times. She ignored me and kept texting me "hi" or "ok" but they never left. I did report both of them. Soon after they both disappeared.

If my friend had curtains, could they (would they?) still have done the same thing? Why didn't they go to one of the empty houses around me? Do you think this about voyeurism or bullying? Has this ever happened to any of you? I look forward to hearing from all of you.

Your friend shouldn't leave the sex furniture out in the open. A lot of residents consider the lack of banlines or a security orb are the same as an invitation to enter. Apparently this is a thing but it isn't as common as you might think it is from reading people complaining about it - people just don't complain about boring neignbours which most of us (luckily) are ;).

PS: You can only report them for performing a sexual act in front of you if they did so on moderate or general land - but in this case your friend's sex furniture should not have been there as well and the abuse report can get them into trouble too.

Most of them usually just come to my store and do it.? but judging by my orb logs, a lot try to get into my house, and even when I am there.  I don't bother trying to ask them to leave now just teleport them home.  The fun part is when some of them teleport straight back still stuck in a humping animation.

Oh and curtains or a locked door make no difference, depending on his land settings or if they were on the same parcel, they can cam right inside anyway and just sit on the furniture

you'll get used to it :)

be sure to set better privacy rules in the land settings, you can keep nearly everbody out. There's no real privacy in SL in this matter, you can only hide certain things, and block access.

If it happens more, it can be really fun when your furniture has the ability to change poses by one thats not on the object... you could toss them around, and give them pics of "special" poses with them on it...

or...

don't ask anything, right click, eject and ban.

So,  wait a minute? Not all household furniture on SL offers sex positions? I thought all furniture did, and that there were different levels and degrees of positions offered, based on how much you want to spend. I've never heard of banlines, but I will go do research on them. I assume it means banning people from a certain distance from your house.

So, there's a map people can access that shows who has sex furniture and who doesn't? That doesn't make me feel very safe. I don't want people breaking in while I'm home alone. ?

Ain't that the truth! Let me tell you what happened to me a few days ago. I wanted to change clothes and I hadn't upgraded my account at that point,so I didn't have a home. There was NO ONE around. I briefly got naked to put on new clothes when all of a sudden I got a message that said I was being booted out. She right away told me why and I explained to her I was just changing clothes. I asked her how she knew what I was doing and she said she could see me. Uuugh. We ended up having a nice conversation and she answered a lot of my questions. I think she understood I meant no harm, and that I was new.

No the map won't tell them what furniture you have but it will show who is where, the trolls will just come and pester anyone they can find.

If you don't want sex position anyways buy PG or cuddle versions of furniture if available (usually costs half or less) or copy mod enabled AVSitter operated ones and learn how to disable the adult menu (not that hard, I think there are even some AVSitter courses inworld that teach you how to configure that stuff. As you seem to be new here is some additional information: AVSitter is a widely used commercial script suite that operates animations in furniture. It is highly popular and can be modified a lot - even with just mediocre scripting skills.

I have an orb for my apartment and this has ejected several intruders over the short time I've been in world. Including the ugliest guy in SL. Yeah, that dog ugly......, like vomit level ugly. :)

Anyways, I never communicate with these morons.

Once when I was having fun (on a sofa) with a gf on a public sim we were jumped by a girl avi. We both poofed but although it lasted seconds it broke the mood. I should have grabbed a screenshot but I don't know what I would have done with it.

My oldest SL friend, confidante and landlady often used to leave her avi on the bed when she was afk. She came back one time to find a girl avi trying to have sex with her. That was pre orb.........

Thing is, voyeurs cam around looking for prey and there's not much you can do about that. When I'm at home or in remote sims I keep an eye out on the perv radar for incoming avis but there's no hiding place from the cammers.

Most furniture with sex poses also allow the owner to restrict menu access to Group or Owner. So your friend could restrict it to Owner when not in use and then open it up when he wants. You can also turn the menu and scripts off, but they'll need some time to reconfigure when you turn them on again.

Avatars can still get in, to prevent that you need to set restrictions on the parcel or use a security orb. Only the land owner can set the parcel restrictions. Does your friend own or rent?

For a while when we were relatively new, we had a problem with a few intrusive wanderers and a couple who had apparently decided our house was some sort of free sex place. Every day for a week, I'd get home from work, log in and find pose balls left out across the rooms. Then one day I got home early and there they were in my bedroom. By then though, my friend who owned the land had given me eject rights which turned out to be entertaining :) Though I would like to know why someone asked "Is this place for men only?" when I was stood there in a Victorian gown and bonnet. If only I'd been 30 seconds slower :D

It's all disconcerting when it's through an intruder that you find out some of what avs can do. But it becomes much less so as you learn what might occur and how to deal with it or prevent it.

99.9% of the things in SL are created by other users like you. While sex furniture (and the animations) is very popular to be sold and bought (and put down by land owners), there are plenty of furniture without and kind of sex poses.

I consider this a feature, not a bug.

I do all I can to encourage intruders across SL by leaving all my land open at all times, with lots of adult click-to-sit targets strewn in unlikely spots.

On PG land, using adult furniture is against ToS, but I'm not even present at the time so it's Not My Problem.

On Adult parcels, hey, it's a free show.

Folks tend to sext in IM, not open chat nor public voice, so it's up to the voyeur to supply the dialog. With a sufficiently pervy imagination, the Mute button is porn's best accessory.

(All of which is to say that "My friend had no idea who she was" and "My friend couldn't see them because his settings are messed up" seems... convenient.)

The harder you try to keep people out, the more they'll want to get in.

My parcels are always open, no ban lines or security orbs (although one has a security orb that only ejects males), and for the most part I even have a Stargate that anyone can randomly come through.

I can count on one hand how many unwanted, annoying visitors I've had. They're just not interested in a parcel that doesn't scream "I'm trying to hide".

its exhibitionism, but why didn't your friend just ban them?

I've watched trolling videos where the homeowner tells the troll over and over they need to leave but only after arguing for 15 minutes or more do they  finally ban the intruder.

If I log in and someone is in my bed, whether I ban them or not depends entirely how they respond to my presence.

Oh and please don't be one of those prople that submits an AR because they felt "violated". It wasn't break and enter the land was set to allow visitors.

Refusing to leave when asked to isn't ARable either even though of the worthies in here will post sections of the TOS about trolling or abusive behavour.

Use the banhammer and be done with it.

It's helpful to understand that the home you might be alone in is the one holding up the chair you sit in while logged into SL. Someone breaking in there would be cause for concern. Here in SL, any concern you have should be nearly as virtual as your avatar. It takes a little while to draw this distinction. Some people never really do.

There are some privacy mechanisms in SL. If you rent land directly from Linden Lab (LL) you can restrict access to a whitelist of individuals (who you'd place in a "Group") or create a ban-list of people to be denied access. You can make it such that avatars on the parcel are invisible to the rest of SL. Walls, doors and curtains don't block anyone. The SL camera can be decoupled from the avatar and moved anywhere. You'll discover this to be fast and efficient way to explore.

The anonymity of SL, as elsewhere, allows people to be at their worst. But, at their worst, they're still virtual and the tools you have to deal with them are vastly more powerful than the tools you have to manage harassment in real life.

The next time you witness people canoodling on your friend's furniture, offer to provide real time commentary on their performance. I once had a set of Olympics style score cards I could wear to gauge performances, and had great fun giving modest scores for sex acts with low degrees of difficulty.

ETA: As for changing clothing, "Wear"ing a new clothing item will displace anything you're currently wearing in the same attachment spot. You only need remove an article of clothing when your new outfit will have nothing to replace it, and that can be done after all the new items are in place. There's a lot to learn here, be patient.

I'm definitely not going to be THAT person. I'll tell you why I did that, but before I do, I just want to let you know fwiw, that I've belonged to an online forum for over a decade, and I still post there. In ALL the years I've been on there I never once reported anyone, and again fwiw, no one ever reported me, nor have I ever gotten a warning. The reason I reported this couple, is because I talked to someone just hours before, who's been on SL for a decade. She was great!  She showed me a lot of different places that I would've never seen, and she helped me with a few other things like my settings that have greatly improved my experiences on SL.. Anyway, during our conversation she mentioned that people can and do break into people's homes and steal their stuff. That got into my head. And it stayed there. lol Naturally, it was the first thing I thought about when this couple broke in. I was concerned they were going to steal all my friends furniture when they were done getting off. My friend and I are brand new here and we didn't have the knowledge at the time to stop them. Reporting them was not my first choice. I could look back at the chat log to see how long I asked this couple to leave, but it was a long time. It wasn't at all like I saw them and immediately hit the report button. That's not how I am, nor will it ever be.

They disappeared right after being reported. If you had to guess, do you think the people in charge immediately booted them or do you think it's more likely that they decided to leave after hearing I reported them?
