My Momma says viewers are like a box of chocolates - so many flavors and everyone has a favorite! 😆

Is there a new Search out? I see a new search home page with a useless header that takes up the top 1/3 of prime real estate (if I hit search I know I'm in searcg so why do I need the top 1/3 to have a functionless grahpic to tell me I'm in search?) and a oddly made but semi function search area function box, and then everything still ports to the website earch. And if you do hit the Dest Guide link - you may or may not be 'logged in' So I go into search I want to see Live Music going on now. Of, I can't. So I need to type in live music and only have events checked then it takes me to a page with events on the left side bar that I can then select Live Music from the drop down .... Me thinks Usability Studies are a good thing ... So I am assuming this is a works in progress?

Probably never. My kids (one is adult now living at home) know Im on SL - I work in SL making videos, primarly weddings, I think they think I am a bit nuts. I even say when cashing out Lindens I call it my pixel money. People seems like they just will never grasp all this. Even my neighbor, I have to explain to him Im sometimes busy with "online work" I just call it my 'cartoon world work' LOL Maybe thats the problem with SL - you really can't tell anyone less they think you're totaly insane

Any tips for better photo?
Jackson Redstar replied to clairea21's topic in Art, Music and Photography
depends on what you want. a snapshot or a "photo" Remember not all poses work with all avis and not all hair works with all poses. When hair/body parts/ goes though the body either you need to change the pose/alter the pose, or, learn how to photoshop a fix For a 'portrait' the subject is the person so that is what should be in focus. Either use DOF or use a less distracting background -
Zuckerberg Comes for the Metaverse

bottom line is how is Facebook, er Meta, gonna still generate the billions in revenue. Ads in your face 24/7. Likely every thing you do or see will have a targeted ad to interact with. I would even guess 3d walking salesmen/women telling you about this product or that service -
What is your SL Photography Setup?
Jackson Redstar replied to JordonBanks's topic in Art, Music and Photography
I was never into studios. Just shoot in world with the WL. Which is why the Lumipro HUD was so essential. But then I don't do much photography anymore, just video. Sure there are other HUDs like LumiPro out by now -
Am I a "soulless" person?
Jackson Redstar replied to Gopi Passiflora's topic in General Discussion Forum
that is what is called an introvert and also apathetic. Doesn't make one souless though. Just how you are Apathy is a lack of feeling, emotion, interest, or concern about something. It is a state of indifference, or the suppression of emotions such as concern, excitement, motivation, or passion. An apathetic individual has an absence of interest in or concern about emotional, social, spiritual, philosophical, virtual, or physical life and the world. -
I suspect Sansar fell flat cause the VR gear is a very small niche for rich techie geeks. And even if VR becomes "cheap" who wants to be strapped in for hours? But as far as cutting into SL - yeah, don't see it , if anything, might get more people interested in virtual worlds and increase traffic for SL

Lets fix mainland travel, here is an idea.
Jackson Redstar replied to Jyrgen Miklos's topic in General Discussion Forum
IMO ban lines are only one issue that makes flying not very fun, least over mainland. That being, 1) there is nothing to "see" mainland is a mess. Other than the challenge of trying to get from point a to point b without slamming into a ban line 'flying' is kinda boring. And what you can 'see' is mostly a loose collection of scattered buildings and objects - and sky platforms everywhere -
Making Second Life look like an AAA game

in a Nutshell, it seems - Sansar. Each region of downloaded to local before you get there so no more lag waiting for textures no matter where you cam to -
Zuckerberg Comes for the Metaverse
Jackson Redstar replied to Prokofy Neva's topic in General Discussion Forum
are they gonna have ZuckPolice in different color uniforms that will act as the thought police and 'fact checkers' as well? Scan your chat and IMs to see if you are expressing WrongThink and send in the BrownShirt bots to throw you in jail for a time out? Will Meta Citizens identified as 'Wrong Thinkers" Be forced to wear a Gold star on their outfits? Will random bots show up delivering a bunch of ads? Everything you search for on the internet will ads start appearing for that everywhere in your Meta world now? -

I tried Alechemy for a bit it was 'faster' but once everything was equalized, draw distance, dynamic draw etc it wasn't really that much faster. There is anoter thread posted by a Linden about an 'improved' Linden viewer, I downloaded it and tried it if it was at least twice as fast as the current FS, but well, the Linden viewer UI kinda sucks, so there's that

I installed WIn 11 about 2 weeks ago. Super easy process. Zero issues with the install or since. Ok a few irritating UI changes . just changes for the sake of changing something, but otherwise, really no difference performance wise between Win 11 and Win 10 I have a core i7-10700k, btw, Just went into bios and switched on TPM easy peasy

I had posted about this a while back, musing that at the time SL was created a 10 or 12mbs internet connection was considered blazing fast. I really have no idea and there seems to be multiple explanations . I have a 300mbs up/down connection - I set mine in debug settings at 280000kbs. been like that over a year, no issues. And btw monitoring the task manager when first going into a new sim, I rarely ever see a receive of more than like 85 mbs , and that is a brief spike. I think it is just some old code needed back in the day that really has no use anymore, but it just keeps getting carried on

Viewer Performance Improvements
Jackson Redstar replied to Alexa Linden's topic in Second Life Viewer
I set both so they dont lose 'focus' if you are not actively in the window (backgroundyeildtime=0) and no I wasn't on at the same time. But, I don't have a stock LL viewer so I guess the comparison to FS doesn't do any good -
Viewer Performance Improvements
Jackson Redstar replied to Alexa Linden's topic in Second Life Viewer
Ok so this is my experience. Went to Fogbound cause there always lots people there. Set the Linden viewer and my FS to as close of settings as possible, shader on shadows on, draw distance all that. Sat in the same place and had the cam looking in the same direction. Used shared environment (it was night on this test) This test Linden viewer a constant 25-27 FPS. Firestorm viewer a constant 9 FPS. that's a big difference.. I wish I could try it out at a packed wedding, but, sorry, the UI on the Linden viewer, well, not very good, lest doing video work But Ill keep experimenting doing A/B in different places. I didnt pull up the task manager and look at CPU usage and graphics usage Ill do more comparisons like that well. But whatever improvements were made so far seem to work Update I went back and grabbed a screen of the task manager for both viewers. Interesting though, the Linden viewer, which had much higher FPS, the CPU was running at 4.55ghz vs 4.61ghz on Firestorm, and the GPU usage was 22% on the Linden viewer and 32% on Firestorm Linden: Firestorm: -

but the OP was "Busy locations such as a crowded club or shopping event will be the best way to notice these improvements. "
