  1. I am not sure what is going on with FS, but its performance and dealing with a large number of avatars - needs help. When the first 'performance code' was run in the beta viewer, it rocked. Now, not so much. I just don't know what is going on anymore, I did a wedding and at the ceremony part there was like 110 avatars in attendance. Either all sitting or the wedding party and it did ok with that. I had to derender a few 'problem' avis but over all given the number of people there did OK. Then, the reception... oh my! As long as my camera wasnt aimed at the bulk of the guests, it worked. Getting shots with the guests in the BG, went from about 25fps to 5 fps in a heartbeat, with the cam freezing up trying to move it using alt- mouse click. But at least pretty much everyone was 'there' After a bit I relogged, and that is when the SHTF. Halft the avis didn't load, naked avis with the skin all weird cause the BOM layers not loadingm just waiting, turning on and off ALM, so relogged again, same thing. After a while a relogged again this time rebooting my PC and this time the avis loaded but was getting 3-7 fps and 'stop motion' avatar dancing. Workable least no naked avis. Should mention the reception started with about 90 avis and by this time down to about 55. I was at best by this time getting about 7fps. most of the time 3-4fps. I decided to try the official viewer at this point had nothing really to loose so I relogged into the official viewer. The scene and avis loaded quickly and I was getting between 13-20 fps, the animations were smooth. Yeah trying to video on the official viewer is no fun, no 're-synch' a few textures thrashing, but over all, I was able to film the whole crowd, people dancing smoothly, etc... Some observations I had noted: On FS, the GPU was maxed at about 90-100% struggling to even keep 5fps, overall system RAM memory usuage was about 20gig. On the official viewer i never noticed the GPU usuage go above 50% and overall system RAM memory usuage was about half of what FS was using. the only apps open was the viewer and OBS. I will list my specs below this It just felt like a partialy plugged toilet on FS, it was 'working' but struggling. What was baffling was after I relogged the first time, everything fell apart. I can deal with the low FPS, but a reception where half the guests are naked, or not loaded, and no amount of waiting gets them loaded, that is kinda unworkable CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700K CPU @ 3.80GHz (3792 MHz) Memory: 30911 MB Concurrency: 8 OS Version: Microsoft Windows 11 64-bit (Build 22621.1105) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070/PCIe/SSE2 Graphics Card Memory: 8192 MB Windows Graphics Driver Version: 31.0.15.2802 OpenGL Version: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 528.02 RestrainedLove API: (disabled) libcurl Version: libcurl/7.54.1 OpenSSL/1.1.1l zlib/1.2.11.zlib-ng nghttp2/1.40.0 J2C Decoder Version: KDU v8.2 Audio Driver Version: FMOD Studio 2.02.09 Dullahan: 1.12.4.202209142021 CEF: 91.1.21+g9dd45fe+chromium-91.0.4472.114 Chromium: 91.0.4472.114 LibVLC Version: 3.0.16 Voice Server Version: Vivox 4.10.0000.32327.5fc3fe7c.571099 Settings mode: Firestorm Viewer Skin: Firestorm (Grey) Window size: 2560x1417 px Font Used: Deja Vu (96 dpi) Font Size Adjustment: 0 pt UI Scaling: 1 Draw distance: 140 m Bandwidth: 30000 kbit/s LOD factor: 2 Render quality: High (5/7) Advanced Lighting Model: Yes Texture memory: Dynamic (4096 MB min / 6% Cache / 6% VRAM) Disk cache: Max size 9984.0 MB (100.0% used) Built with MSVC version 1934 Packets Lost: 0/123,007 (0.0%) January 23 2023 05:05:13 SLT
  2. It also can be useful to keep an eye on the task manager, you can see what is going on at a glance, how much CPU you are using, memory, and of course, he GPU, how hard it is working and the amount of vram memory it is using. If the GPU fans ae running at full speed, take note of the GPU temp - that can also be an early indicator it is time to get in there and de-dust the system
  3. I get this often but in weird and unpredicatable ways that kinda defy explanation. For instance I was shooting a wedding and there is a table at the alter, All fine before wedding. my 'LOD' is set to default 2 - btw i have 8gig vrm and 32 gig ram, but then, after zooming to other areas to film and coming back to alter - no table. Right click on it = the 'wireframe' of it is still there, but cant get it to rezz all. And my cam is focused on the alter area for at least the next 20 min and table never rezzed. Later on after reception, couple goes back to do some photos there - vola! table is back! I get this weirdness on occasion, just weird, can't explain it. Just SL I suppose. Forgot to mention while filming I always keep 'unchecked' the dynamic adjust level of detail' in the phototools panel
  4. with modern drives SSD and especially if they are on a .m2 socket, I really cant see how moving cache files around would help all that much
  5. That soounds like it woulda been cool - a long time about a guy was making a 3d flycam that used the keyboard i used it for a year or so and it was great but super hard to install. He gave up on it unfortunlately and when I got a new computer I couldn't get it to install again
  6. this is for firestorm. not sure about other viewers in photo tools panel under the cam tab, crank up the cam smoothing slider. you can then use alt + arrow keys or ctrl+alt and arrow keys to move the cam . otherwise you would need a 3D mouse or xbox controller, but for simple videosm using this method should work fine
  7. on my last set up I had a 17 that ran about that hot underload (this is a desktop) when Id render video at that time 100% cpu and the thing was getting toasty, even up to about 84, It used the stock intel cooler. I removed that cooler applied new thermal paste and installed a better cooler on it rarely saw ober 65 after that. But yes the thermal paste can 'go bad' after a while and often it may not have ever been applied properly in the first case. Laptop cooling is even harder. really need to make sure all the airducts are clean and you arent blocking the airflow anywhere near the inlet air is (usualy on the underside). But of course, you could just let the thing run hot and make it an excuse why you need to replace your puter with a new more powerful one! lol
  8. as someone who cannot live without dual monitors and use that all the time when editing photos or editing video or other tasks like that, the fact that almost every software I have used lets you drag elements to another monitor , except of course, SL. I can see HUDS not being able to be moved to another monitor, but how awesome would it be when for instance you were sailing and the world map, mini map and chat window could all be dragged off to another monitor, or especialy what I do video the UI is off but I always thought if only there was a way to put the chat and IMs on a second monitor while the main UI is off. impossible I am sure but one can dream!
  9. if Im not mistaken, and this applies to the FS view, in Prefs under graphics>rendering, you can check on 'show avatars that haven't finished loading' that should eliminate the orange cloud and also you can lower the 6 seconds 'time to delay while pre-caching' a couple seconds. But either way landing somewhere with aloth of people either you see orange clouds everywhere or you see a bunch of gray body parts floating around everywhere LOL
  10. I tried moving the cache to another .m2 SSD i have on the system Im not really using and for me didnt seem help much. using the alt mouse buton to move the cam around in a crowded enviroment really geives the stutters and freeze frames. I am trying to decode the texture console to see if I can detect any patterns, but I suspect this is prob a win 11 update issue
  11. interesting I will try that as that is one of the issues i been noticing as well lately
  12. Computer specs are below What I have been noticing, and I am not sure their is totaly viewer related or maybe my computer related, but I will be at a event maybe 30-40 people there with shaders on, ALM, shadows on, and be getting maybe 5-6 FPS. GPU running 100%. I turn off the shaders, which turns off ALM and shadows and FPS climbs back up, no surpise there, (I have my render limiter set to 34fps). Swith back on shaders, ALM and shadows, the FPS often, but now always, will stay at about 32-33fps. If I move cam position sometimes the FPS holds, but often, a new cam position will take FPS back down to the 5-6 FPS range, and I do the shader cycling again and FPS goes back up. Seems to me something is "stuck" Pretty hard to explain. when the new performance viewer code came out, never really had a problem holding at least 20 FPS in a crowded event. Now it seems its mostly back to how the viewer was before the performace code. Any thoughts or ideas? things i might want to check or stats I should be looking at? I have whitelisted FS and cache locations in windows firewall and on Win defender. 13. if only there was some benefit to being "Flickr Famous" like there was being a famous "influencer" like free travel, hotel rooms, dinner, or any number of awesome things that come from 500 likes on TikTok or Instagram! LOL
  14. I run into this all the time when doing video work. In the photo tools panel under General, there is the 'Dynamically adjust level of detail' un check that and things that are rezzed within the view distance stay rezzed. (may have to zoom in to 'snap' them into place') I am sure it eats a little fps, but not much, but it helps prevents that annoying Now you see it, Now you dont I do wish though FS would have a slider adjustment to adjust the "dynamic" part of the level of detail
  15. This though is is now seemed to be cleared up.... WHat I noticed as I do weddings, often moving the cam to where alot of people are the framerate drops like a rock (to be expected of course) but then struggles or never really recovers when moving back to a less crwded view. That and the ol nakey avi never rezzing fully seemed to be back again
  16. nice but I was expecting Bon Jovi I'd Die for you LOL
  17. actually, I usualy have the frame limiter set to about 34 fps. anything around 30 is perfectly smooth. unless of course you are shooting video at 60fps...but shoot at 30 fps and most the events i video are from 12-30 fps (sometimes 12 is not even possible) but for general everyday SL , limiting fps to 30 is perfectly fine, and also there really isnt any need for the GPU to run at 90-100% all the time
  18. no computer can "handle" SL no matter how much you spend. A desk top is the best bet because of cooling - assuming the tower has good ventalation and is kept clean and a dedicated nvidia card 1000+ will do well enough - though the 3000+ cards do seem to do well in empty or mostly empty sims, start adding in people in the area and it can be a toss up how well fps will hold up. Stay away from intergrated graphics for SL. Unlike gaming the more you spend on hardware the better game performance will be, not so much in SL. you might spend 700 on a new graphics card and see a slight improvement in performance, if any at all
  19. when the new linden performance code was rolled into FS it was pretty exciting - the thing ripped. crowded areas, no problem. But over time it seems FS has returned to the old FS. Bogged down crowded area, gray textures, half rezzed or unrezzed people, just like how FS used to be, Anyone else notice this? Wonder if it is something FS related or maybe related to Win11? I tried the official Linden performance build viewer in a crowded area - 50+ fps some gray textures for sure, then switched back to both the latest FS and the FS beta viewer, 10 fps at best, gray textures etc... I know can't exactly do a apples to apples test between the Linden view and FS, but still, when the performance code FS first launched it easily matched the Linden performance build Firestorm 6.6.8 (68355) Nov 7 2022 12:59:16 (64bit / SSE2) (Firestorm-Releasex64) with Havok support Release Notes Second Life Server 2022-10-07.575585 Release Notes CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700K CPU @ 3.80GHz (3792 MHz) Memory: 32671 MB Concurrency: 16 OS Version: Microsoft Windows 11 64-bit (Build 22621.674) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070/PCIe/SSE2 Graphics Card Memory: 8192 MB Windows Graphics Driver Version: 31.0.15.2230 OpenGL Version: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 522.30 RestrainedLove API: (disabled) libcurl Version: libcurl/7.54.1 OpenSSL/1.1.1l zlib/1.2.11.zlib-ng nghttp2/1.40.0 J2C Decoder Version: KDU v8.2 Audio Driver Version: FMOD Studio 2.02.09 Dullahan: 1.12.4.202209142021 CEF: 91.1.21+g9dd45fe+chromium-91.0.4472.114 Chromium: 91.0.4472.114 LibVLC Version: 3.0.16 Voice Server Version: Not Connected Settings mode: Firestorm Viewer Skin: Firestorm (Grey) Window size: 2560x1417 px Font Used: Deja Vu (96 dpi) Font Size Adjustment: 0 pt UI Scaling: 1 Draw distance: 140 m Bandwidth: 30000 kbit/s LOD factor: 2 Render quality: High (5/7) Advanced Lighting Model: Yes Texture memory: Dynamic (4096 MB min / 10% Cache / 8% VRAM) Disk cache: Max size 8128.0 MB (9.8% used) Built with MSVC version 1916 Packets Lost: 1/8,774 (0.0%) November 12 2022 08:04:40 SLT Second Life Release 6.6.8.576310 (64bit) Release Notes Second Life Server 2022-10-07.575585 Release Notes CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700K CPU @ 3.80GHz (3792 MHz) Memory: 32671 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows 10/11 64-bit (Build 22621.674) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070/PCIe/SSE2 Windows Graphics Driver Version: 31.0.15.2230 OpenGL Version: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 522.30 Window size: 1920x1009 Font Size Adjustment: 96pt UI Scaling: 1 Draw distance: 128m Bandwidth: 10000kbit/s LOD factor: 1.125 Render quality: 4 Advanced Lighting Model: Enabled Texture memory: 512MB Disk cache: Max size 3993.6 MB (103.9% used) J2C Decoder Version: KDU v7.10.4 Audio Driver Version: FMOD Studio 2.02.06 Dullahan: 1.12.4.202209142021 CEF: 91.1.21+g9dd45fe+chromium-91.0.4472.114 Chromium: 91.0.4472.114 LibVLC Version: 3.0.16 Voice Server Version: Not Connected Packets Lost: 49/5,577 (0.9%) November 12 2022 08:06:57
  20. I been doing this since 2007, and sometimes I wonder what life will be like after SL. It is only, a company after all, and while surprising its has remained a going concern all these years, I suppose there will be a day when a Microsft makes a insane offer for a MySpace, or a TimeWarner bids on a AOL Online. I mean SL has lasted longer so far than most RL marriages do. I look over my youtube and realize i have videoed over 250 wedding since about 2015 - there are just so many memories and it has been such a part of life for so long it's hard to think it could, one day, pretty vanish in the blink of an eye
  21. there are alot of "old people" in SL now. Sitting around the SL Old Folks swapping stories... 'Back in my day we didn't have no mesh and we liked it"! "Back in my day the guys had peckers the size of baseball bats"! LOL
  22. FRAPS is old - resourse hog too. In the old days was the top recorder, i did like it was so simple to use
  23. the type of video I do I dont need 60FPS, and I record with h.265 which needs more encoder power to record. Im sure though a 3070 ti will do just fine recording 60fps
  24. I usualy run with the frame limit set at 34fps (in the rendering tab of Graphic, don't use v-synch) 30-34 fps is more than enough for a smooth experience and for video recording, and the card, in most cases, don't peg out at 100%, so it remains fairly cool I have a 3070
