  1. The primary issue I always see is rendering Avis - and details. With what I do, I am often surround by alot of Avis while filming, and also, (using Firestorm) I need to have Dynamic LOD set to off. Viewers like Alechemy just crank up dynamic LOD to make it seem like they are faster but in reality when set up the same to other viewers are no better. But the biggest issue is always Avis and how it kills FPS. Turning Avis into stick figures "works" unless you are trying to film a scene - or even enjoying being at an event with other normal 'people' all around. FS latest effort to improve FPS is more or less just centered around impostering avis around you. Im going to try out this new and improved Liden viewer see if it is better, but, unfortunately, the official viewer simply in not any good for machinima use
  2. If Musk bought Linden Lads - every software update the news headlines would shout "Linden Labs issues yet another recall for Second Life users!!!!" lol
  3. once you throw 20+ people into the mix, all bets are off lol. Unless you imposter everyone or derender people - but then what is the fun of that!
  4. this question in a nutshell also encapsulates on of the reasons why it is SL cant retain new users - with a modern computer and especially a 'gaming' computer there should be no reason not to have it on all the time. But lag. So you switch of off and all the pretty is gone just to be able to move in a place where 20 or so other people are. Or you don't know enough about SL yet and it is switched on by default, and everyplace you go is lagged out. long winded answer, but I only turn it on for doing photos or video, and maybe sometimes exploring mostly empty sims
  5. the News from the WH should calm people's fears about Musk operating Twitter. The WH will be creating a new Ministry of Truth that will inform all us plebes what is true and what is not true. We need not research anything on our own, the Ministry of Truth will have all the right answers, Trust them. They are the government!
  6. Free Speech maybe not, but Fair Speech. And this whole idea that any social media outlet can act as the Ministry of Truth is laughable at best. We are all adults, we should know by now just because we read something posted doesn't mean it is true, We have the ability to look into the claims, read both affirming and dissenting opinions - and ultimately make up our own minds on what we choose to believe or not to believe. And what has been deemed misinformation has often turned out to be true a year later. As is often said, there are 2 sides to every story and quite often, the truth lies somewhere in between
  7. I worked in IT for years as a User Interface Designer, We also said the same thing about coders when it cam to them designing User Interfaces LOL
  8. thank you both for replying I should have clarified when I have shaders and shadows on all my other programs are shut down except for OBS, other wise my daily use is shaders and shadows off @Beq Janus thanks for that very detailed explanation - the thing about decode concurrency - your explanation should be in the FS tips for that setting - in FS it just says 0=Auto, 1=Synchronous and 2+=User specified 0 or 1 are recommended
  9. Can a FS viewer guru explain this? I really dont know what the 'best' settings are for my system (or for that matter even with their explanation what it really means) RTX 3070 with 8g of VRAM 32gig RAM Intel i7 Samsung 1T SSD main drive What I notice if I am in a really busy sim with lots of people and 'everything on' often my VRAM usage push right at the full 8 gigs sometimes a little more. Which may or may not be a big deal, I dont know. Right now my Dynamic memory is at its default state - Min memory buffer 2048 and the other 2 percentages set at 15% Im just trying to make sure my memory settings are running at optimum efficiency
  10. Id tend to agree with the OP, you don't get alot for your upgrade money in SL. But then again, it is what it is. Just the way SL is What might be helpful I think, with SL as it is right now, is if anybody that really understands what is going on under the hood could make a list (if any) tweaks in debug settings that might be useful for people with the latest processors, graphic cards, etc. While it is nice to have access to those settings, for most people it is like having access to the settings of a modern car computer and told to 'make it perform better". Or, since a majority of SL users are MS users, if there are any tweaks in Win 11 that might help SL perform better on modern hardware. SL is still pretty amazing considering is was written at a time when most were still on dial up and those that did have broad band were like 1 - 2 mbs and maybe had a 'high end' 256mb graphics card and 2 gigs of ram
  11. Maybe BD can break the mold again and give us floaters that can be moved onto a second monitor...?
  12. while I cant say if any of the update improved performance at all .. my .02 also says this is all just another layer of complexity that new users to SL with have to deal with if they use the FS viewer
  13. one thing Im curious about your OS and recent updates. Im on Win 11 and I swear sometimes after a update I see big performance hits in SL and I don't know why. My 'seat of my pants" gage is my home in SL at 3000m up. Most of the time I am on with no shaders or shadows running and usually fps is 260-330 fps. But then on occasion and usualy after some Win updates, I will see my idle speed be like 120-160 fps. May mean nothing, buit I do wonder if something is going on under the hood in Windows
  14. There used to be, A guy started to make a keyboard drive 3D cam - I used it for a couple years it was great though was tricky to install. Sadly when I needed to replace my puter I lost that and never could get it to work again. No it wasn't "auto' in the sense, but you could set a camera path and keep repeating it. It basically was a keyboard version of the spacemouse Btw, I still have the files stored, if any technical person wants to take a crack at it
  15. There are a few debug settings that can help for everyday use, but even a table listing all the debug settings is still mostly useless because they are still mostly meaningless unless you know the inner workings. And why the name 'debug' in the first place? seems they are more Functionality Settings lol
  16. I think I remember I used to be able to do this, sign into my YouTube channel using a in world media player, but now I cant sign into Google anymore as it says 'This browser or app may not be secure' Anybody know if this can be done and if so, how?
  17. Lag has alot to do with it, and also keep in mind in SL as the camera moves the scene needs to be continually re drawn. So keeping draw distance down as low as you can to make the shot is also important. a whole lot of alphas like trees and plants etc can slow things down too. Fact is unless you are in the sky with a purpose built set you probably will get some studder in most sims. You just have to keep camera movements slow - or have like zero lag. And when you get avies in the scene studder free can be nearly impossible... if the world frame rate can stay above about 12fps and with a slow camera I can get fairly smooth shots even with avies in the scene, I record at 30fps on OBS but my frame rate for editing is 24fps wich slows the footage down a bit. Unless you are planning to do post slow mo shots, shooting 60fps in world just isnt necessary , IMO at least One thing you didn't describe is your computer and the resolution you are filing at- you will need something fairly robust to do good in world recording. You could also use post to do alot of zooming and panning if it is supoer laggy and you cant get good in world shots - like shoot at 1440 but have your timeline at 1024 so you will have room to zoom in or out and pan left and right or up and down Jackson Redstar - YouTube
  18. I was reading today 'Meta' is building the world's fastest AI Supercomputer to dived head first into the Metaverse. Reminds me of the scene from Jurassic Park .... and that turned out so well,,, Meta is building the 'world's fastest AI SUPERCOMPUTER' | Daily Mail Online
  19. while frustrating, in context though, what is this? 2 dollars USD?
  20. IMO, the best free you can get is Davinci Resolve. You will have editing, color grading, audio studio and a effects studio. And if you like it and want to unlock all of it - it is only 300 one time charge for the full program, but for basic editing, cannot really beat Resolve free
  21. may be a wee bit off topic, but many people joined SL back in 2007 when it was featured on CSI NY. Now, if they used SL as it actually had looked in 2007, doubt they woulda gotten more that 100 people interested in SL! LOL
  22. make a female avi park it in a AFX Sex zone and at the end of the month enjoy or 150 (maybe) Lindens! lol
