At least one "dealer" needs to be a Shark Avatar!!!

They are all sharks.  lol

When my ex-husband and I were first married, I almost talked my ex into being a croupier.

He hates gambling like I do, but he had the personality for it.  He was a very funny guy and quite entertaining.

He eventually got saddled to a job with honestly more corrupt bosses than Casinos probably have.  He also eventually caught these bosses on tax evasion.  He needed to get them for human abuse via the Labor Board!  Unfortunately, the business made everything look all shiny when the Labor Board came out to give them their bright and shiny 'you pass' checkmark.  My ex's bosses were worse sharks than I think are in Vegas.

I tried it and it's not that bad. It does what I was talking about in a previous thread about SL needing more games. The casino has a hud UI element that shows your tokens and it changes your camera view to an overhead for blackjack and a three-quarter view for slots. There is even a little animation and sparkly particles when you win at slots.

Is it addictive? It doesn't feel addictive but I have never been interested in casino games. If LL could make an 'arcade lounge' with the same elements, maybe even the same tokens, and fill it with arcade cabinets, skee ball, prize cranes, etc. I would totally be there.

Not sure if anyone else suggested this yet, but one way to handle it is to limit how much L$ a given user could spend in a day / time period.

LL already has restrictions on how many Ls new sign ups can purchase. The person has to make the effort to get those amounts increased.

Here's mine. lol

LL is apparently handing out suspensions for violations of the ToS to at least some of those protesting at the casino, including someone who has posted in this thread.

Wait, what? How is holding a protest sign inworld at a roleplay casino a violation of the TOS?

These things could be combined at one venue. There are plenty of idle arcades and amusement parks in SL, but combined with the "casino" thing, maybe there'd be enough activity to build on itself, keeping it all afloat.

But how did it fall to us to devise improvements that could give this thing a fighting chance?

Of course we may all be wrong and it'll succeed as-is. Maybe enough people want to roleplay as high rollers (or something). Seems unlikely to me, but then I don't understand half of what works in SL, nor half of what doesn't.

Although this project clearly involved a considerable investment in time and money, the Lab's communication has been virtually non-existent. As others observed, it seems "fishy"—kinda like a psych experiment where they have yet to reveal what they're actually testing.

I haven't looked up TOS yet but I'm guessing interfering with other's enjoyment of SL?  Maybe.  I honestly don't know either.

If that's true, the Lab is going in the wrong direction.  I still noticed a lack of a comment from a Linden staff person.

They have their fingers crossed that it will be Friday soon.

Yeah, the silence from the Lindens and the Moles on this thread says more about them then they probably intended.

Although the Moles may have built the place --- I think it's the higher ups who decides things. Maybe at the next in world meeting with Lindens the casino thing could be bought up. I went to one recently to bring up the mboard changes a while back.

I feel that way a bit too.  I was wondering if LL is more or less saying it's all role play and role play is valued by the individual because we don't actually own anything in SL.  The main licensed owner is LL and for certain other things they are user licensed.  Once AI generators come along though, we all could own more things probably.

Sometimes I wish they'd make virtual goods actually worth something.  Like people can own for real their own virtual land in SL and/or own our virtual items (but they'd have to mod/transfer) to own them and for the virtual items to have value upon resale.  But, I think copy-botters ruin the idea of owning our virtual items.

Just my .2 cents on that.  No response is necessary.

You made some good points. I'm going to "spill the tea" for a minute (tell my version of truth).

We criticize, make fun of, and complain about some new thing in Second Life.

But, this wasn't just some user's build.

This was someone's "job".

I kind of feel sorry for them, that management let the project get so far without better oversight, direction, and guidance.

That is unfortunate, when I went there last night they were behaving themselves while I was standing next to them and they seemed to be having some fun, while adding to the entire atmosphere.  I wasn't there for long, but it appeared innocent enough, little picket signs that were not offensive, and someone near them asking them for linden to purchase tokens🤣  I hope things did not escalate beyond that, I still had fun playing the slot machines.

This is rather disturbing and not a good look for LL.   Unless protesters are impeding other players in some way from participating in the casino or aggressively engaging with them, a peaceful protest is one of our only recourses in SL to change anything.  As we've seen, discussions on subjects here in the forums are often locked when one speaks negatively about LL.

Take video. With a little effort, this could get national news coverage.

Hm okeee... So residents are in worries and anger ... LL hiding in the shadows hoping it will all go away, trying to silence people with taking away their free speech x3

Well any sane person would have tried to seek the dialogue with the residents...but I guess some people at LL obviously have left the horizon of common sense light-years behind them and are still accelerating...

I really thought they learned from the bot massacre...that talking and listening to their residents is much better than staying silent.

Irony, considering who some of the protesters were!

I must withhold further comment, lest a Bot fall on my head!

I have a feeling LL is writing something up about the Casino thing and will post it soon.  Probably wording it so it will appease the Residents. I had to post a sign in my bar as required by the city and it had to be worded in a way to appease all.

Great minds think alike! I just posted this in the "other thread":

Now this is an angle I hadn't thought about. A demonstration for an external party/investor/business of how casinos could be virtual, including avatars for customers. Interesting idea.

This Social Casino experiment reminds me of Elon Musk's recent success. 🚀
