There goes the neighborhood! Next thing you know, we will start seeing pawn shops, strip clubs, gun shops, and marijuana dispensaries.  All of our benches will have unhoused residents sleeping on them, the parks will have tents set up on them.. drug abuse will run rampant, and crime will be on the rise.

May as well setup a Walmart, bad Love!! BAD Lion!

On a less serious note...someone should go and claim the domain "secondlifepeopleofwalmart.com" x3

Even no-copy, no-transfer prizes!

Ugly t-shirts, garish sunglasses, poker visors, tourist hats, plushies..anything that reflects on the seedy nature of a casino.

ETA: "Alibi" receipts, to show your soon-to-be-Ex that you REALLY WERE AT THE CASINO.

hahahahaha,  my thoughts exactly!!!

Thank you for clarifying ...  I really was confused - like other's,  still feel like I'm missing something obvious.

I'm a social gambler.  I enjoy meeting people from all over at the tables.

If they had live music/DJs,  and people there were friendly, and if they had a roulette table and maybe a craps table.... it could be fun.  They do,  however,  need at least boobie prizes!

I'm a boardgamer in RL and we also play pen and paper RPs ...I miss places like that in SL a NICELY made boardgames place would have been nice. I miss this place that had a game called fruitcake or something like that, I can't find this game inworld anymore 😭

- Pawn Shops - A place to get money for gambling, there is one every few blocks where I live

Oh, hold on a second!

Now here's something that LL really COULD do, and a way for us to get rid of all that old No Transfer, unsupported content. They could create Linden Pawn Shops where you could drop off stuff in exchange for a few $L.

LL, I want a 1% commission on this. You read it here first.

They had some kind of Pawn Shops that would give you quick money in SL, but it used to be for Gachas.  I never went to one though.  I'm sure the price given was fairly low at those SL Pawn Shops though.  I bet some still exist as I still have Gachas boxed up in my inventory.  I'm just keeping them for now.

SMH, at LL though still at this funky kind of set-up that isn't gambling because you cannot win anything.

Maybe they can have a spot where people could redeem their gaming tokens for prizes.  Maybe they could even redeem them for random loot boxes of pawned items?  😉

This is abusive. Flat out abusive. This is Linden Labs trying to profit off of people who will become addicted to gambling or who already have an addiction.

I live in a city with a bunch of casinos and although I'm not a gambler myself I have no issues with people who decide to do so responsibly. After all, they have the chance to actually profit off it. There's a, slim, potential for them to actually get something in return for winning and making their lives better.

The only return here is a dopamine hit when you win. This is straight up profiteering off of addicts.

One thing about those App type slot games or casino games on the mobile --- they are serious money beggars. I played one on my daughter's tablet and every so many spins it popped up "Buy more credits - 100k for 29.95."  For the tokens here, if you need more then the free ones and you have little Lindens on your toon --- guess what?  Need RL money to buy the Lindens!

I am probably in the minority, but I think I'll visit 🙂 I like a flutter and it looks like fun...I also like the social aspect and I'd MUCH rather play poker with people than Greedy, which I still don't understand :S I'm not going to pay for any tokens, though. If people do pay for it, is it really that different from buying fishing rods to play that fishing game?

Yes. From what I understand, people catch things with the fishing game.

I made a simple gambling addiction helpline sign, with a handy stick you can hold on to. If anyone wants a copy you can get them for free from my store or by messaging me in world.

Great idea! (I suggested it too.)

Depends on which one you're talking about. Some give actual prizes as part of the game, including L$. Others are more of a community contest system, where people are paid out by the host of the fishing contest.

In both scenarios you actually get something for playing, aside from simple fun of playing an actual game.

7Seas Fishing had rare items that could be used to make other, more desirable items. These rare items can be sold on Marketplace, as can the finished items - boats and such. Competitions could also have cash ($L) prizes.

One of the other fishing games rewards players with lindens.

Only because they knew there are plenty of people who actually love gachas and didn't care about the whole "it's because of the laws and not out fault" kind of reason.

What law exactly for Gacha?  I wasn't there when the Lindens may have spoken or written about their reason for eliminating Gacha.  I do NOT see Gacha as gambling.  With gambling, like a lottery ticket, one can win or one can lose it all.  With slot machines, with poker, with Black Jack, with roulette, with craps one can win or one can lose it ALL.  With Gacha, you get a prize every time but it's a surprise.  It only had a hook in that it had a rare and I mostly never like the rare anyways.  It was a rare Gacha that I like the rare.  But, you could trade your Gachas that you didn't like like one trades marbles in real life.  And, again, no one has to play Gacha.  I never found it addicting so I didn't understand that aspect of it.  But, so are shopping and sex possible addictions.  And, they don't do away with alcohol because some are addicted to it.  Gambling is a win or lose situation.

This is what ChatGPT had to say about gambling:

what is the truest definition of gambling

ChatGPT

Some examples of gambling include casino games, sports betting, lottery games, and card games like poker. The element of risk and uncertainty is central to gambling, as the outcome of the activity is unpredictable and can result in either a win or a loss for the gambler.

They used "regulatory climate" as an excuse. Around that time, governments outside the US were cracking down on Loot boxes in video games played by children. That was "the climate". Of course, gatcha and Loot boxes are not the same thing and Second Life is not for children. I agree that gatcha is not gambling, at least when the usual definition is used.... betting something of value in a game of chance.

I'm not really sure what the point is of this casino other than a gateway to online gambling with real coin.

Spent some time there, you get some worthless game chips and if you're lucky you get to win back some of these and once you've run out of your worthless game chips you can pay LL a bunch of L$ to get more worthless game chips.

I had no problem wasting my time mindlessly clicking away on a slot machine ultimately ending up with more chips than I started with. Had I ran out of chips I wouldn't have bought anymore. With no real reward involved, for me it didn't have the addicting factor playing a skill game machine has. If I had nothing better to do I think I'd go back
