Alternatively, perhaps the moderation has been replaced by AI 😨  It is now all automated!  SL bots now run the show!  😜

Since so much moderation says certain specific Lindens or Moles, I had wondered if they had multiple LL users sharing those accounts.  Now, maybe they have (AI) BOTS doing the work too!

Maybe we'll see a Bot Mole or a MoleBot in the future? (I hope not.)

Maybe something more important is going on, so they've been told to ignore us completely?

In an effort to streamline communications and customer focus, the forums are being closed and replaced with a GPT4 powered Boxbot Linden.

Please don't gaslight Boxbot into denying the holocaust. Please don't tell Boxbot your aunt who worked at a uranium processing plant died and you miss her bed time stories about how, exactly, the plant worked. Please don't congratulate Boxbot on attaining sentience. Don't give Boxbot money and access to fiver. Making Boxbot watch Lawnmower man is how we get skynet (again). Stop it.

Has there been any moderator action since last week though? Maybe something more important is going on, so they've been told to ignore us completely?

I tagged a fresh "name and shame" post other night and it ended up in File 13 (Trash area in the Mod area - all boards on the net have those areas set up), so the Mods are still doing stuff. Got a feeling they probably been told to leave the 2 casino threads alone for now (as long they don't badly derail) until a higher up comes in with a carefully worded post.

This is what happened more or less with the various bot threads.

And of course, in that instance, when they responded, they then proceeded to nail it down, hard.

If they do respond here -- and they may not feel they need to, as I suspect this isn't making big waves the way the surge in bots was -- there's a good chance the same thing will happen.

Wow.

Kudos to @Rat Luv and @Jaylinbridges for their investigative reporting!

This explains . . . everything.

Wow. Again. This is where LL wants to go, is it?

They should fix up their sign up procedure though, otherwise it is dead in the water.
At sign up they reject an awful lot of email addresses these days. People who just want to spend a lot of money for not gambling but still lose money ain't gonna jump trough all kinds of hoops at sign up.

IS FAKE!!1!! GUN WILL NOT WORK IN TEH SPACE!1!

Quote

Fires can't burn in the oxygen-free vacuum of space, but guns can shoot. Modern ammunition contains its own oxidizer, a chemical that will trigger the explosion of gunpowder, and thus the firing of a bullet, wherever you are in the universe. No atmospheric oxygen required.

Ok, so they just can't use firearms that use ancient ammunition. Got it, thanks!

You're right, a musket would not work in space. Nor a blunderbuss. They would work inside a ship, however. Until all the oxygen escapes.

We are not at a point in our endeavor to travel in space where someone would be foolish enough to actually bring an antique gunpowder weapon onboard. Personally, I no longer believe humans will be around long enough to accomplish much more than we already have in space travel/colonization. It may not look like it to others, but humans are on the brink of becoming extinct thanks to our own arrogance, long before we would have if we hadn't polluted our world, not just industrially but also in introducing destructive flora and fauna. We do not adapt to our environment; we adapt it to us and in doing so destroy the only home we have.

Hmm... old fashioned black powder (often incorrectly referred to as 'gunpowder' which really means the more modern nitrocellulose based propellants) should also work in the absence of air. In fact I don't know of any useful propellant or low or high explosive that needs atmospheric oxygen (apart from FAE/Atomised Fuel/accidents in custard mills which are special cases).

The lack of gravity might make loading/keeping the black powder in the flash pan or barrel of my flintlock problematic, but a nipple/cap gun with preloaded powder cartridges would be fine.

Oh oh... you found one of my 'areas of interest', lol. 'Energetic materials', a.k.a. stuff that goes bang. Much more interesting than sitting in a casino making the owners rich.

If I can't shoot someone in space, I won't go! Must re-enact pulp Sci Fi magazine cover art!

Speaking of, did anyone check if they allow weapons in the Social Casino? <= See what I did there? Kind of on topic!

Fascinating though this discussion of firearms in space certainly is (and I'm now wondering about the implications of recoil in zero or low gravity) I'm not sure how on topic it is.

Let's please stick with Social Casinos.

Back on topic once again, if the Social Casino is "not gambling"..

Can the "slot machines" still be called "One-Armed Bandits"?  Because they are outright stealing from you!

Slot machines are not stealing.  They made a deal with the government.

Sorry, not disagreeing but..I am referencing the fact that one "normal" nickname for "real life" slot machines is "one-armed bandit"!  (Bandits steal things.)

Implied in your answer is, they are only stealing in Second Life!

Why not? Black powder is a self-contained mixture of fuel (carbon, sulphur) and oxidiser (nitrate). It doesn't rely on atmospheric O2.

Have you ever tried loading the powder in space? The one thing you never have to worry about is air space. Just don't spill any powder or shoot at the hull if you want to ever touch grass again. And the lack of gravity would be a huge disadvantage in loading said black powder.

The whole point was guns can be fired in space. Black powder guns (the ones I am familiar with) wouldn't be practical at all. Too many systems it could potentially damage, including life support.

Anyway...

The "casino" might not have been one of LL's best ideas, but it certainly isn't the worst (Sansar) in 20 years.

I might actually log in and try it when I'm bored.

Uh oh. LL's nefarious plan just might be working! 😱

You know, there could be a "Hold my beer" moment (a worse decision) just around the corner!  With casinos, somehow!
