  1. A lot of the "no mod" thinking goes back into the distant days when people thought it allowed creations to be stolen. That was debunked years ago but it the thought remains - as does "clear your cache" solves all lag issues. However, it is the right of the designer to make their original creations no modify. With that said I would encourage designers to remember that time has moved on and full bright should be used on light bulbs only and if you sell it with copy rights then please also add a script scrubbing feature to remove the texture selector/resizer once we have it the way we want it. Thanks
  2. As a matter of fact, a broken, no mod item is more likely to be stolen. I have a mesh head in my inventory from a very prominent creator that has buggy materials on it. I contacted the creator, who said "We've moved on from that version, updates are in the new version." which was not a free update. It would be extremely easy for me, if I were so inclined, to turn it into a full perm head and fix it myself. Unfortunately I only like to push the rules, not break them.
  3. Hello! Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this but I am looking for a dance pad script. Does anyone know where I can find one? I tried looking in a script library and got confused then I didn't know if it was safe to use since it was on a site I *think* stolen things are from. I tried looking on market and didn't see any only seen dance pads. If anyone could point me in a direction to go that would be awesome! I don't need pads I've made some-just need scripts ♥ Preferably for single dance pads and couples
  4. I am just getting tired of people using AI to make these boring pieces of 'artwork' passing them off as originals and selling them. Then others uhhing and ahhing about their 'talent' If we get AI mesh too I might just be looking elsewhere to spend my leisure funds. In all honesty AI 'art' is not to my liking. Especially since none of it is original just cobbled together from pieces stolen from the internet or fed to them by someone... after being stolen from a real artist somewhere.
  5. You are absolutely right @Cristiano Midnight; no-mod is completely anti-consumer. There is little reasonable justification for most items to be no-mod. Greed, control, paranoia, selfishness, ego, ignorance, assuming the customers are either thieves or incompetent... none of those are reasonable but cover most of the reasons. A rare exception is when a NC is used as a 'signed' agreement or similar. I would accept genuine, one-off works of art that the artist wants to preserve as-is in SL as an exception. By the way, a no-mod notecard can be read by a script you can write. I've done that many times to change the animations in furniture for instance, when the maker has been silly and made the NC no-mod in furniture that is mod. Even rigged mesh has no excuse to be no-mod. It can be tinted, retextured (maybe with some effort), have scripts added to change/increase functionality, be linked to other rigged or non-rigged items to save attachment slots, have its animations changed if its animesh, even changed from rigged to animesh* and vice versa. Again, no reasonable excuse for no-mod perms. *Something I did to a set of rigged wings so I could make them animesh and move the attachment position for a smaller avatar. What such sellers seem incapable of realising is that they would make more money if they made their stuff modifiable. There's a big (pun not intended) reason that the Aesthetic body is still my favourite after all these years; it's had mod perms from the start and being able to rez it out and modify it is golden. Edit just to clarify that I don't include scripts in the above. Those are often proprietary, and obviously easily stolen, so need to be no mod.
  6. "I'm too cheap to buy a suit, so I stole a jacket and a pair of pants from Walmart, the pants are sort of OK, but the jacket's way too small. I wish I'd stolen a receipt so I could take it back and get a refund,. Also, I cut my own hair, without using a mirror, cool huh?"
  7. hey every one I used the tip script for one of the thieves and forgot to change the programmer’s ID (Agent id) to my ID. After that, the general manager transferred a large sum of money to my account, and the amount went, as you know, to the account of the programmer who refused to pay and said that he was suffering from financial difficulty, and I am the destiny and the treasure that descended upon him from heaven. The question here is: Can I recover my stolen money? Where there is diversion in transfers or is there difficulty in proving that this is theft?
  8. IF the gestures have you as an owner, you MIGHT be able to put them in a box and import the box which "might" included the gestures when opened. It worked that way going the other direction and I used to bulk upload my animations to OS that way. IF the gestures were made by someone else they may also be available here in SL with the same avatar as creator. IF they were "stolen" they may also be available here to purchase assuming the name of the gesture wasn't changed. Edit: Here is where you export your filled box: Then import it using BUILD> UPLOAD> IMPORT LINKSET Again, I don't think I ever tried importing FROM OS to SL so it may not work the same way. I have imported a linkset (house) from OS to SL and that worked fine.
  9. to all those praising opensim. i guess you praise theift as well since most of the content in opensim are stolen stuff from SL including belliseria homes i have found, thats why i left OS and uninstalled the OS version of firestorm
  10. That has been policy, but the issue is these days, IP bans can be bypassed by a VPN, resetting your modem (sometimes) or just by letting the WAN IP DHCP lease (The lease your ISP gives your modem for an IP address) expire and trying again then. I've heard HWID (which uses something like a hash based on your HDD/SSD serials, motherboard make and model and other stuff IIRC) may have been implemented at some point, but a enterprising user like say, Mutahar from SOG, could just set up a VM, spoof that data, and then log in again. That or just replace the HDD or motherboard. Identity bans are possibly also implemented - remarking the RL name and locale of a banned user for future reference so any future accounts in their name are removed. Stolen accounts sadly are a matter of the end user. Residents and the Lab at large both should ensure that good standards on INFOSEC are disseminated to the community. There's a reason why I told people when 2FA came around that you should use it, even if you don't like it.
  11. Banning people by IP is a thing. but VPNs get around it especially when people use stolen accounts each time they get banned.
  12. What content is being stolen? He is videoing our live performers. That is a copyright violation but the performers have to do it and youtube requires them to use their real names. Something our performers are reluctant to do. We can't just close the sims ether. Our sims are open to everyone as long as they follow the rules. In the convent it clearly says no video allowed. That makes his video a tos violation in accordance with the policies set down by LL. My sim alone is a park, to close it to the public defeats the purpose.
  13. What content is being stolen? It's a video. And how can the person complaining prove it is even their parcel? Youtube could just as easily decide that the person complaining is the troll, trying to get an innocent person in trouble. Once again, to the OP, get over it and move on.
  14. Let's say that I was in one of those videos. I didn't give my permission to post it on YouTube. I file a DMCA. How in the world would YouTube know that I am the owner of that avatar and it's content theft? Maybe I'm just an avatar that has my own videos and want theirs to go away. I don't see this as being successful at all and if that were me I'd be pissed if someone filed a DMCA to take down a video without having to show proof. I doubt YouTube is going to sign into SL to verify that indeed the content was stolen. I'm not even sure it's copyright infringement.
  15. They could, but I think they probably wouldn't. They would not help you get your alt accounts back, but they might appreciate you telling them that someone else has control of those accounts now. Also, if those other people do anything that breaks the TOS with those accounts, you wouldn't want to be penalized yourself. Could you say your accounts were stolen or hacked? If there was communication between you and those other people, that could prove that you gave away your password consentually, so I don't advise lying about that.
  16. As usual, you have overlooked the bloody obvious. Allow me to clarify. We TPV users HAVE tried the official Fail-Viewer, back when we were noobs, found it to be zero-quality-of-life-feature sh*te, and tried a TPV and gone "wow this is sooooo much better than that official sh*te". The Fail-Viewer Cultists, never try anything else, because Fail-Viewer Cultists. It's as much inferior sh*te today as it's ever been, since the only quality-of-life features it has are few and far between and invariably stolen from TPV's.
  17. Had 2 breedables rezzed at a marketstall around the same time, was there about 20-30 minutes working around it, left and came back a few hours later and they were both gone. Nothing in my inventory, cleared cache and reloaded inventory and nothing. Area searched the sim, went to the corners, 0,0,0, there is no sign of it. Had it listed on a breedables website and its been removed there. Nothing in transaction history. How can an item just disappear inworld and how can we find it? Have the UUID and searched everywhere. Can objects actually be "stolen" in world??
  18. Hello! I happen to already be a creator for another game, however the digital content is so easily stolen that working with a custom mesher there is unfortunately a complete waste of an investment. Since costs vary and can become expensive when multiple projects are involved, I’m pretty inclined to open a store here in second life and have been in search of an experienced and well versed mesher who may be willing and have the time to dedicate their skills to ongoing paid projects as it pertains to maintaining consistency and production quality of the store. Projects would primarily involve hold-able items (sometimes animated), accessories, and clothing. If you’re interested please be sure to contact me (or include a way to contact you) in-world, along with pricing and portfolio work. All the best,
  19. Depends. If it's a genre restriction, "this is a fantasy venue, be in fantasy theme", then sure. But if it seems illogical - like the one that hit you - I'd bounce. Sometimes the genre themes also rub me the wrong way and I bounce. Especially when it's a genre ban out of a non-genre venue: "All avatars must be 100% human to hang out in our social cafe / dance club / discussion venue / random place. No elves, nekos, or etc." These places are usually asking for "realism because their patrons demanded it" but I often only find out about them because someone invited me and then asked me to just ignore the rules... Where we might fall on opposite sides of this is in 'currentness of avatar look' - as in I have no issues with places that want mesh avatars, but only if they're screening out badly optimized mesh (which almost none even know how to do). If I'm going for the eye-candy then I want the eye-candy. A few times I've landed in places with warnings that "people using stolen content will get DCMA'd" that then have 'World of Warcraft', Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar, etc statues / props out... I almost want to go buy something stolen and put it on before coming back when I encounter that.
  20. Someone has stolen my identity, changed my password and taken money from my account, how do I stop them
  21. The "legal" version is a question you answered when you got the right to upload mesh in SL. You agreed to not use any trademarks... Nike, Reebok, Lui Viton, Gucci.. ect... However SL is loaded with trademark gear, and stolen 3d meshes, even by some of the more popular creators. The law of copyright says you have to have at least a 10% difference. So technically you can make Bucci... At the end of the day it all comes down to what helps you sleep at night...
  22. I don't recall a thread on TOS disclaimers in people's profiles in a long time they used to be very popular. Has anyone mentioned Tummy talkers yet or gesturbating in clubs. Bloodlines or other Vampire RP has stolen my soul!!! Or those freenies that got you pregnant just from being close to to them and to stop it spamming text at you you went to a clinic to sit on an abortion machine. All DJs are illegal !
  23. Oh, but it does apply. Just ask LL. If it didn't LL/Tilia wouldn't bother with any 1099s. Nor would any other business required by law to file them. See the bolded part? That is aka cashing out. How should I know who won the car? I didn't even enter the contest because I can't afford the damn thing and would have to sell it immediately. Oh I know. Believe me I know. As someone who has been in the accoun6ting field a few decades that first thing I would have done after receiving that email is get on the phone with HQ and start chewing some butt for risking my ID and finances. Once you've had your ID stolen you don't eff around. My apologies for going off on a related siderail.
  24. That was the title of my next painting. Great, already stolen in the MP.
  25. And what's worse it also has a snowball effect. Because it's being exploited by, let's call them "shady creators", that tend to flood MP with their garbage which is often are just stolen/bought 3D models from the usual few 3D models sites, or it's those FP resellers that tend to list hundreds items at once every few days, it starts to affect legitimate creators sales. I barely use/buy anything on MP for many years, but still check it now and then. And recently I've seen a few creators that I consider good changing their MP listings to fit the new favored algorithms where listings and descripting got rid of actual product names and all named something like "maitreya legacy reborn lingerie" for example about one creator that makes one release a month at best for the Kinky monthly event (often a lot less). I know she doesn't want it, we had a talk before a few times, she always cares about her work and does her best with every release. But can't really blame her for trying to still sell something on the MP either, and if the only way to do so these days is to join the system instead of trying to fight against it... well, that's pretty sad, but it's a reality. MP's search was already awful before, but with changes LL made last year it's worse than ever now, even if some people here on the forums keep trying to defend it. It is usable still, yes, and the options on the left side help, boolean search is also there. But those extra options should be an addition to already easy to use and working search, not a requirement that makes the search slightly more tolerable.
