  1. one of the things i have found with tattoos is that they come out much clearer if you do them in .tga format, using an alpha layer and a black background. If you have photoshop, creating .tga with no blurry edges really helps with things like tattoos. If you are not sure how to create .tga using alpha layer and black background IM me inworld I would be happy to walk you through it.
  2. Quite a bit of what you see may well be put together by the avatar wearing it as you can purchase all those things separately. If you use your search function, and put it on places, then type in what you are looking for.. ie. fantasy you will get a whole list of places dealing with fantasy stuff, then just look through the list till you see someplace that sells that stuff and go visit. Can do the same in MP just type in Fantasy, and a bunch of stuff will come up.. When ever I want to put together a specific type of avatar/outfit .. that is how I find what I am looking for. It takes a little time. The more specific you are with your search words the more likely to find closer to what you are looking for. About the only link I can give you is for a place that sells steampunk stuff http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Savage Keep/28/25/3829 that is a store inworld. There may be a lot more specialty stores like that, but I don't know them offhand, I would have to research as I suggested above.
  3. Hmmmmm So from what you have written, you have a new Store in a new mall and you are renting stores out. So what does your store sell? I guess my question is, with sooo sooo soo many malls and stores in SL now, what do you have to offer that would be of superior value to a renter, than the other 1 million malls.
  4. hey there welcome to SL. I have been in SL almost 12 years now, and I was a hold out when it came to getting a mesh body and head.. It took me a few months to decide what I wanted and my criteria was: the body had of course to look great, with the ability to use my own body shape with it, it had to be one that had lots of clothing available for it, it had to have a great alpha hud so that I could wear other clothes with it as well. So after testing out demos for the main body makers, I settled on Maitreya Lara body (although I don't use the hands and feet, I use instead hands and feet by Slink). Then there was the head, after about 50 demos for those from a few head makers, I ended up with none as I could not mess with the features.. Then came Bento heads which do allow for some alteration of the features, and after more testing I found a Catwa head that works for me. Fortunately my skin is made by a skin maker who also does appliers for both Maitreya and Catwa, so the end result is pretty close to the look I had already cultivated over the years which is what I was after. I guess my point here is, experiment, get demos, read the Mesh Body Addicts website as suggested by aneoco, and just have fun with it.. if you are looking for good skins to use that also does appliers for body and head 7 Deadly skins is a good place to start. But do take your time, and be sure you are gonna really like the end result before making a huge investment. Don't settle until you are perfectly happy !!
  5. I have not seen this anywhere in my travels. But I know that if I want to know if something is still being sold, I send a note card to the person who created the item asking them if they are still available and where to get them. You can get the creator's name from that page link you posted. One time when an item was no longer being sold in stores, the creator offered to sell to me directly. So you never know I think it is worth a try.
  6. Well first of all welcome to SL. Free hair is gonna take you on a little trip but just might be worth it. First put Free Hair in your search under places.. there will be several come up and you can then go check it out. Then you can also try just putting Hair in search, take a look at the top shops many of them do have free gifts, but you may have to join their group to get them. All Hair shops do have demos of their items and the demos are designed so you cannot get rid of the big demo sign on them, that is on purpose so folks do not just get a demo and not pay for the item.. you will find that anything that is a demo will be marked in some way so it would not look good to wear out to a club or something everyone would know you are wearing a demo some demos might look perfect but those are timed so they poof after a certain length of time. But in the end to find free ones you like will take a little bit of leg work and some searching. But that is also a good thing, gives you a chance to see what is out there.
  7. My partner has experienced pretty much the same thing using MP.. We have however, found that by using search in the viewer using places, and putting in a brief description of what he is looking for .. several stores that we did not even know existed were revealed, and the top ones of course are always visible.. Takes a bit of leg work as you actually have to visit the store in person, but he has found many really nice pants and jeans etc. that way and you can usually get demos on the spot as well. But as I said it does take a bit of leg work.
  8. I have to ask: is this a new Events organization? I have been in sl almost 12 years and never heard of it before. and whether it is or not those prices are pretty steep. Just so you know I am not intentionally picking on you... But I have been stung before with folks supposedly setting up fairs and events: taking your money and then just doing a disappearing act.. I have also been stung by event promoters who have gone through with the event but not done any of the advertising etc. promised so no one actually knew about the event. I cannot speak for all designers, but I am very careful now what events I sign up for...especially now since there seem to be more and more coming out of the woodwork, a fashion event unless it has a big well known name is unlikely to gain much attention with so many going on out there now. And I might as well add, that I would not sign up for any event or fair where I was required to send out my work to bloggers blindly. I will use bloggers if and only if I know their work and think it is good.. sadly most are not, I have seen way to many probably lovely clothing items, displayed on distorted body shapes in the most outlandish poses, not to mention the busy backgrounds .. the items themselves get totally lost in all that! But please do not judge me for speaking my mind.. I am no new kid here so I have some reason for what I say.
  9. Well actually if a mesh maker is selling to only you and not putting the product out there on the market, then that price is more than fair.. There is one heck of a lot of work involved in making especially fit mesh for specific bodies.. and you need the right software to produce it. At the very least if you were to try doing it yourself you would need, firstly the developer kits from the mesh body makers you want to design for and you would have to apply for those, most have info in their stores on how to do this. Secondly you need a good 3D modelling program or programs that will allow you to not only make the mesh but to rig it and weight it to the specific body you want and save the items in the correct format required by LL There are some that are free and or affordable, i.e. the combination of Blender and Avastar would work as many do use that combination. Or some go with highly expensive software like Maya. In either case there is a learning curve. So unless you want to tackle making it yourself, then no that price of 50L per item is not out of line at all for exclusive items to you. If they are selling their mesh work as full perm templates on MP or in a store in SL, then they can reduce that price since they can sell more.
  10. Another thing you might wanna do, is take some photos of yourself with different outfits on and some different poses. That would also give you some experience at using a camera, it all helps:) When you have done some pics that you like put them together in a note card resume. Some potential employers will ask for that. I would hire you but I can't afford a staff lol.. I have to make the clothes, model and take the pics all myself.
  11. I have not successfully managed to get my mesh into SL yet , but I am pretty skilled at texturing mesh templates which I buy for clothing. I do use a texture hud but not the one you are using, but I imagine they all work similarly. All_sides faces works just fine if you are using only one texture map which covers the whole mesh item all at the same time. You have to be sure that the hud can talk to the mesh items you want to texture, With the one I use, you assign a special # to both items and it has to be the same on both and on the root prim of both. You also have to make sure the buttons are named properly to correspond with the target mesh (your top). If you are still having issues after double checking everything in order of instructions, I suggest you contact the creator of the hud and explain your issue.. When I first stared using mine I ran into a few problems as they can be tricky to get working sometimes.. and the creator was most helpful in sorting out my issues.
  12. Yes, I agree with seanabrady if the mesh pant or short or even shirt was not made by the same creator as the mesh body suit, and made specifically to go over that body suit, good luck getting another item to fit over the body suit nicely. I like the body suit look with pants and a jacket over top, so I use appliers for the body suit, that way any mesh I want to wear with it will fit over.
  13. Well Quinn, that is the beauty of SL. There are so many choices of how you want your avatar to look. You may not care for mesh and have your reasons, but a great many of the SL residents DO like it. So to each his own so no point in knocking something when it is ONLY your opinion, which you are certainly entitled to. But FYI, good mesh bodies with a good skin DO look loads better than the standard SL avatar issued when you join up (especially mine it is 11 years old you should have seen them back then lmao). To me there is absolutely no question about it. It is my choice to have a really top of the line computer as well, so I can see my mesh and everyone elses properly, it rezzes fast and everything is in it's place. But again that is a choice some of us make, to enhance our SL experience. Mesh clothing also looks by far better in some cases than painted on layer clothing if it is made well, especially skirts, the layer skirt is and always has been horrible, however, having said that some tops and pants too look great done in layers. As a designer, I will sometimes mix mesh with layers and make appliers for mesh bodies to work with them as well. My mesh body moves better than the original avatar did as well, looking far more life like as opposed to a cartoon and is certainly NOT like a lifeless maninkin. I have a bento mesh head and my mouth moves just fine. So to sum it all up for you: YES mesh bodies do look better for most of us. But as I said in SL there is room for everyone to have their personal preferences and absolutely no need to bash others preferences because they are not the same as yours. Live and let live as they say, it is a matter of respecting others preferences and a sign of maturity.
  14. I can tell you that I have recently decided to try making mesh clothes although I have been designing clothes in SL for 11 years, I have been kind of slow learning the curves of 3D modelling. I applied for the top 3 mesh building kits and so far Belleza has been the fastest to respond, I received their full kit with everything I need including tutorials within two weeks of applying. Still waiting on the others.
  15. Thank you Jon, I will pass that on to him, hopefully, the socks won't cut into the pant leg either:) Can't hurt to try lol.
  16. I am putting this out there on behalf of my hubby. He is having one awful time trying to find some shoes, I imagine it would have to be shoes cause boots would never fit under mesh pants properly, anyhow shoes that can be worn with a mesh body, mesh feet, and slim fitting mesh pants. Everything he has tried so far either cut into the cuff of the pants, or are so short they leave a gap between the pant bottom and the shoe top making his pants look like floods lol. If anyone knows of a shoe that will fit neatly under the cuff of slim fitting pants without looking dumb or messing up the pant cuffs please do post. He will not wear boots over his pants either cause none he has found actually fit over the leg part of the lower pants. I lost count of all the demos he has already gone through lol.
  17. Full perm mesh body?? I honestly have never seen such a thing in SL, human anyhow. Most mesh body makers are not about to be offering full perms on their work. It takes one heck of a lot of work to produce a really nice mesh body, so I really cannot see any creator offering all that work up with full perms so anyone can mess around with it. Could be wrong though.

(i do respect what she did though, the creator of the lara body isnt very nice about her meshes at all.) i want to develop for that body because i love it so much, but i question wether its a smart idea... or if i should just sink in the time and make myself a human body as furry creators do, honestly if given more time id like to make a brand new body with better rigging and nicer breasts. You answered your own question. There is no gray area. It was illegal and likely a DMCA will be filed. I totally agree! IF creators are using this, then it is at their risk.. personally would not be worth it to me.
  19. yes the above info is very good as a source to check out what is around. My partner also went with the Catwa Daniel head, and slink mesh body (he made a few good tweaks to the shape though for the body), and also ended up with Nivaro skin. I have a male alt I use for modelling men's clothes and for him, I got Labyrith mesh head and skin appliers, with a slink mesh body, slink hands and feet. I found Labyrinth easy to work with and apply. Made a few changes to the body shape. But of course it is all up to what you feel looks good.. It took my partner a good couple of months to find what worked for him.. and I admit it took a lot of demos to find the right look for my model alt.
  20. If you are not using mesh feet i.e slink, or a mesh body, then you should probably be looking for something non mesh, in the form of pants and feet covering for classic avatars. Off hand I actually do not know of any particular place for you to look, but you might try MP.. and put stockings, and classic avatar in your search. That is likely what I would do to start.
  21. I haven't updated either yet, but from what you have said it looks to me like Avstar has not caught up with the blender update changes yet. So might have to wait until Avstar catches up with an update so they are compatable. I would be inclined to contact Avstar service and file a ticket letting them know the problem.
  22. Sorry I have never seen that jacket before, but it looks like something one might find in role play stores, but I don't know any of those off hand, just that I have seen them in MP searches at times. The other thing you can do is send a note card to the creator of the hair and ask where they got the jacket for the pic.
  23. In most special events, fairs, festivals, etc. the Creators are required to have at least one item which is an "exclusive" which means that item will not be sold in stores until after the event is over. And in some cases the "exclusives" my only be available during the event and not to be found aftewards. Each special event, fair, festival etc. has it's own rules and so each thing might be different.. In some cases an item might be regular stock from that store but discounted only if bought at the event, or a new item sold at discount at the event then will go to normal price when it goes to the stores. Hard to give any kind of a list of shopping events here, as they change frequently. So you would just have to go to the ones that interest you that are going on now and see what's there. And in all fairness it would not be cool to list events here, would give some free advertising to those that got listed.. not a good idea.
  24. Wow! now that is interesting! My old post from 2014, gets a response 3 years later! Well since someone is still reading this: I might as well put an update in here lol. In 3 years I must confess that mesh hair has come a long long long way! The newer mesh hairs are for the most part pretty awesome! Some hair creators have nailed it! And yes, I am now buying mesh hair from a few creators, I have my favourites about 4 or 5 so far, and as long as they keep putting out realisitc and flattering hair styles I will be spenidng my lindens on mesh hair.. LOL.
  25. yes the jacket is hardly visable .. I agree best thing is to send a note to the hair creator and ask if she/he can tell you where the jacket in the pic came from. Or if it is a picture that came from a blog you read, ask the person who wrote the blog.
