  1. When it comes to mesh I so totally agree with you! No demo=No sale with me as well. As a comsumer I stick to that! And as a designer I stick to that too! I cannot for the life of me understand what is so hard about making a demo for a product, sure it takes what another 5 to 10 mins to knock off a demo, small issue in the long run. When it comes to system layer clothing though, a demo is hardly necessary since what you see is exactly what you get, and there are no issues with fit, even with appliers you know the fit is going to be exactly right as well so I am not so concerned with demos for those items. As for overpriced clothing items, again I fail to see why folks would want to pay high prices for an item that can likely be found similar for a respectable price. But having said that, underpricing an item just to sell it and beat out the competition is just as bad. Like back when anyone could by a store in a box, and resell the items at stupid low prices. I would not wear anything that I am likely to see on 20 other avitars at a club lol. But SL is a free society and folks are free to do things their way, buy what they prefer and if some designers deem it unecessary to provide demos that would be their choice. I am sure by now enough has been said about lack of demos that they are fully aware they are losing potential sales without demos.
  2. In my experience with at least 2 mesh bodies, fitmesh clothes made for a specific body may or may not fit to cover everything, depends on several factors one being the style and anotherbeing the creator as to how they made it. However, having said that you have two options here; one is to adjust your shape so the poking out bits don't protrude through the mesh; and the other is to use the alpha sections on your body hud. There are times I have to use both to get something to work.. I also must caution you that using the alpha sections is always a good idea because when you stand still everything may look covered but when you move or dance, the mesh can crack and body will poke through. It takes a bit of work to get the hang of getting things to fit sometimes even if the item says it fits. I also use my own shape so I have to probably make more adjustments than someone using the creator's body shape. I save any bodies I have altered and give them a new name and put them in the folder with the outfit so it is always handy.
  3. Good question! I don't know about anyone else, but I just have to look for them either on MP or look in search and any store that says they sell clothes for Maitreya. I don't think there is a list readily available. I know that some of my newer mesh fashions are made from templates that tell me there is a size for Maitreya, and I test the finished product out before I put them on the market for sale. (I use Maitreya body but I use my own shape as well).
  4. Well, a lot depends on what type of clothing you want to make. System clothing or Mesh, either way you need a good program like photoshop, or some use the free one called gimp. The basic files for system layers are made in a program like that first. You can download the SL basic body files to work from, if you put body template files in search in this forum you will likely get a few options. Then just upload those from your inventory files to your photoshop or gimp program, and start experimenting. If you are after mesh you either have to have a 3D mesh program like blender that you can make the actual mesh in, or you can search MP and find full perm templates to buy and use, and make the textures in your photoshop or gimp program. I am sure others will also offer suggestions, but way back when I started most of it was about having good software like photoshop or gimp to do the textures and a lot of experimenting.
  5. Yes Market PLace is certainly a good place to start. Also, if you find an outfit in mesh that you like and it doesn't say for TMP, I would get the demo for it anyhow, as a lot of mesh clothing which are not made for any specific mesh body, will fit anyhow. So it is just a matter of trying the demos.
  6. It can be hard to track something down that you like in SL.. but here is something I do, in this case the pic is for animations, and not the dress, but since the person who created the animations made the pic he or she must have known where they got the dress in the pic, right? So send a pollite note card to the creator of the animations asking if they will tell you where that dress came from.. You will either get a reply, or not. And it might be faster than waiting for someone in here who has seen it to reply. Good Luck!
  7. Might try Utopia or Wild Orchid, Son!a but in the end only you know what you are looking for.. we can give you names of stores that have gowns, which you can find on your own using search, basically any reputable designer who does formal gowns will have some wedding designs and if you still don't find what you are looking for you can approach one of them to do a custom for you. It all boils down to leg work on your part lol.. sorry!
  8. I have created a Community Profile Card, which is supposed to show up on my posts in this Forum and it does, for a little while, then the background pic I chose to use keeps going missing from the card. If I upload it and insert the background again, it shows up for a short time on posts then disappears again, leaving a grey faded patch with faint red X's where the photos should be? Why is this happening, and how do I get the photo to stay put?
  9. This is good to know, but in all honesty I don't think we have to worry about all this on our Avatar in SL.. chuckles (thank goodness!).
  10. I'd love if the creators of some system layers I own which have great textures were remade as mesh appliers and I'd happily buy them again. Some of us are doing just that, but it can be a slow process. I actually appreciate it when a customer sends me a message saying they would like appliers for one of my outfits, it helps me decide which ones to do on appliers.
  11. Amethyst Jetaime wrote: Just to add... I think you are wrong about mesh bodies having less uniqueness. Sure if people buy the bodies and use them as they come, with the skin that comes with them then they'll be a lot of people that look like them. However mesh bodies do respond to shape sliders. The result is my mesh body is the same shape my legacy avatar body was, a shape I made myself. Using a different skin that didn't come with my body also helps. The result is my avatar looks the same as it did overall, except that the well known problem areas of the legacy body are gone. I so agree with this! I also made my own shape and use a skin that did not come with the body; and that is very important if you want to be unique; same as it was before with the legacy body only way better! I had no problem getting my mesh body to look exactly as I wanted it to. I have two mesh bodies actually, and both are compatable with my slink hands and feet so I can still use my slink shoes and nails. I even have variations of my original body; tailored to work with different mesh outfits.. all saved in folders with the outfits.. and named accordingly.
  12. As another long time clothing designer in sl (over 10 years) I am finding that there is still a great demand for good system layer clothing. I have recently resurected 2 of my best selling system clothing designs; reworked the textures a little; and added popular appliers.. And once again they are selling really well. I have also noticed that all the majour good gown designers are still using system layers on appliers for part of their gowns.. mainly because with system layers in appliers on mesh bodies, you can get a variety of bodice sizes not just the restricted mesh 5 standard sizes.. so you can show off those lovely breasts as they are meant to be seen. (just as a side note: I was a mesh body hold out for ages, finally took the plunge myself, only to find that system layers on mesh bodies actually look BETTER on mesh bodies than they do on classic avatars... just saying). Personally I think there is great room for creativity in using a combination of mesh and system layers, and offering appliers makes it easier for those who do love mesh bodies to have a varied wardrobe, and show off that awesome body in clingy sexy clothing. I do not think it will ever be a clear cut case of either/or at all.. but a melding of everything we have to produce yet more amazing fashions.
  13. Well, first of all welcome to SL.. I have been here 10 years, designing and making clothes for SL.. I think you will find a lot of us in this forum.. I wish you luck with your endeavour, smiles, but as for being inspired to dress like someone else.. nope.. never happen lmao ..
  14. As not all mesh bodies are created equally, and only you know how you want to look in the end, I suggest going to the most popular ones first, get demos, try them on, read the info note cards, take a good look at the hud that comes with it.. Then make your choice based on what works for you.. If there are no demos then stay away!! Same goes for mesh clothing too.. I don't feel right about giving my personal opinion on any of the mesh bodies available, in this venue.. But feel free to IM me and I would be glad to share what I know or have found..
  15. When applying the alpha layers are you using "wear" if so then one will bump the other off.. try using "add" instead of wear, that way you can get more alpha layers on without bumping one off each time. Same thing when putting on anything mesh, use "add" not "wear".
  16. yes I have seen these boots and or ones very similar all over MP. I am pretty sure if you do a search you will find them still out there, some of them are even full perm templates so that might be why they are all over the place.
  17. I would message the person who posted the blog, she had to know where it came from.. name is right on the blog.
  18. Suki Hirano wrote: Welcome to SL, where 90% of all creators are snobs, a-holes or generally provide terrible (usually nonexistent) customer service because their RL probably sucks and want to vent in SL I take great exception to this on two levels. One as a consumer I have gotten at least 90% good service any time I have needed help or even had a question for almost every creator I have dealt with. There has only been 2 exceptions in 10 years I would say that is not bad. On the second level as a creator, I take pride in my creations, they are my hard work and efforts, and if there is something wrong with my product I want to know so I can fix it. I will always respond to a sane request for assistance from a customer, and if the problem is legit, do my best to fix it. And yes we are people in RL too and do take vacations and trips away from computers.. most of us do leave messages but if folks don't think to check we can't do much about that. And on a final note with regards to this statement: " RL probably sucks and want to vent in SL", making a comment like yours kinda sounds like your own situation.. hmmmmmm.
  19. Yes I heard that; and I don't mind saying that I don't care much for my textures going to a web page! And I cannot make heads nor tails of their store anyhow.. seems to me their bodies are in perpetual beta.. so I am actually not all that upset if I never get a kit from them.. chances are I wouldn't use it anyhow because of the texture off SL issue.
  20. Yes and that appication form is non functional at the moment. I tried to get a kit a week ago was not able to get the form to work.. so I contacted some folks at TMP .. apparently the kt is not available at the moment while they work on their new mesh body project.. they could not say when it would be available again.
  21. haha well thanks to the two of you who attempted to answer this question.. obviously there is NO real answer.. and I agree this is an odd system to be sure.. truth is I was just curious.. I really don't care about rank or status.. I respond to any post I feel I can either add an opinion or offer some help.. Thanks folks!
  22. Not that this is any big deal it is just one of those things I would like an answer to.. I used to be shown as "Honored Resident" now I am just shown as "member". Who decides this? and what criteria do they use? And how does someone manage to get bumpped down from Honored Resident after 10 years in SL. I have seen a lot newer avatars with less posts with Honored Resident.. Just curious also as to how come some folks get huge pics and others of us still have the old small ones.. This is a curiosity question, I hate it when I can't figure out why something happens lol.. Is there a Forum God, who favours those he/she likes and punnishes those he/she doesn't lmao???
  23. If the creator will not respond, I am afraid you are stuck. All creators who use huds really need to test them completely before releasing the product, like a quality test. I know I do. And if by some chance something still goes wrong after the customer gets the product, I want to know about it so i can fix it. So I would keep attempting to reach the creator (things do happen perhaps they are out of town or lost connection to the net or something). If this creator wants a decent reputation they will respond. Too bad you didn't get them from MP.. leaving a comment would be helpful.
  24. Check out some of the more popular clubs: you will find tons of fashion statements. The type of music being played and atmosphere of the club also seems to attract certain types of fashion. Check out a few you might be surprised!
