  1. In truth I don't think I have ever seen mesh clothing that comes in one unisex form. I have seen unisex hair but not clothing. I suspect because the male and female bodies are so very different it would be hard to rig one item to fit every body brand.. Having said that, back before I had a mesh body, before clothing was rigged specifically for any mesh body brand, I did have a really cool coat from Cherokee Creations that was sold as male but re-sizable so it could be made smaller to fit females and it came with an alpha layer that took out pretty much all of the body under the coat. But I have not seen anything since mesh bodies came into play. Perhaps male clothing, that is re-sizable might be an option, and if worn on a female body alpha out all the parts that poke out..
  2. In addition to what has already been said.. I want to stress DEMO DEMO DEMO... if you get a demo first then you can easily see if you need the alpha sections, an if so if they are gonna work for you as you expect.. if you can't get it to look the way you want and the alpha sections are not preventing poke through or are too big and leaving holes then chances are it is the clothing rigging, design and fit that is the issue.. using a demo first ensures you do not pay for things that don't work.. if the demo doesn't work then don't buy the item.. if there is no demo .. don't buy the item either, that is risky.
  3. My main reason for getting a demo is for fit purposes, no matter how great the texturing is if the fit isn't right then i have no interest in it at all.. I need the demo to make sure that any parts poking through can be fixed by my alpha sections on my body hud.. and if they can't then I won't waste my money on that item. It is nice however, to be able to see the actual texture of the item in a demo.. it helps in the over all decision to buy or not. Having said that, as a creator, when I make a demo, I use one of the texture choices as is, only with demo stamped on it somewhere, I try not to put the word demo in a place that will destroy the over all look of the item.. but still be clear that it is a demo only.. Most of the outfits I put out come with a texture hud and several options of colour choices, but I do not make a demo hud. reason being, to make a demo hud would be like making the entire outfit twice.. once with demo and the final sales version.. and to be honest, with prices being what they are in SL for an outfit these days even with a texture hud (meaning low due to so much competition and folks wanting inexpensive items) I couldn't charge enough for the final product to cover my time and cost of making a full demo hud. I know there will be a lot of folks who like to have everything in the demo, but I doubt they would be willing to pay a higher price for the final product just so they could get a full texture hud in the demo. (extra cost being time, and texture uploads which could be considerable depending on the outfit)
  4. Well, I don't like timed demos if they run out of time before I am done analyzing the item, but for me I am not in the habit of trying on demos and wandering around SL in it lol.. I only try demos at home as a rule but it is still annoying for it to poof before I am done checking it out. as for making a difference if the demo said timed .. I doubt it.. I will try a demo if I really like something, so I probably would try it anyhow, but having said that.. if it poofed too fast, I would be tempted to write the creator and ***** about the sort time given.. But that's just me.. lol
  5. That is a loaded question, to me at least it is. I have been in SL over 13 years and this complexity thing is about the only thing I really do not understand at all. Simply because the complexity changes according to the different avatars around you. So it is incredibly difficult to control. We as individuals can do what we can to decrease our own complexity readings, but a lot of doing that requires us to not wear items and clothing we would like to. Unfortunately, we sacrifice appearance in favour of maintaining complexity levels. I would imagine it is very hard to make jewelry look nice and keep within good complexity readings. Perhaps someone else here would be able to give you exact figures for this.. I know I sure couldn't.
  6. a lot will depend on what type of body you have.. if you are using the standard classic LL body, or a mesh body.. You might have some luck finding lower priced items in classic sizes than fitted for mesh bodies. In either case I suggest you go to MP and put women's dresses in the search.. then on the left side you will see options for price range..pick your price .. and see what comes up. As for stores there are so many in SL that I wouldn't even begin to know where all the sales and/or low prices would be.. and if I did it would not be a good idea to list them in here as it would be seen as advertising.
  7. if the box that the item you want to unpack says wear me.. then just click and wear; a menu should come up asking you to accept a folder, accept that.. then in your inventory you will see in recent.. that folder which should contain all the appliers, pick the one you need and click on it and add .. the applier should show up on your screen and you then click on that to get the applier to go on to your body or head which ever one you are using. If the box does not say wear me then you have to rezz it, then click on it and click on open.. then the folder will go into your recent items in your inventory.
  8. you just need to be sure that the head skin applier and the body skin applier are made by the same maker and they are in the same colour... otherwise you are gona have some matching issues.
  9. All this complaining about demos, just proves the point that you cannot please everyone, ever! Everyone seems to have their own idea of what works for them, and everyone is different. A demo is usually free or like 1L so it should not be attractive enough to wear out in public as a proper purchased item would be. We need to be happy that most creators take the extra time to prepare a demo at all as some do not even offer demos. There is nothing worse than having to take something on blind faith that it will look good on us and pay full price for something and find that it doesn't fit right after the fact. Personally, I just do NOT even consider buying anything in clothing, if there is no demo, no matter how much I like the look in the picture. Pictures can be photoshoped to take out bits of body poking through etc. So demos are necessary. But having said that, an annoying demo that poofs too soon, or has rings and boxes obscuring the view of the item are not really all that helpful either. In my view the best demos are the ones that have the proper texture of the item on it, with the word DEMO placed a few times on the item so it is obvious that it is a demo but not too much to detract from the over all view of the item.
  10. Only if the vendor system has that option, and if the creator chooses to use that option..
  11. Now that is terrible! I don't mind paying 1L for a demo but if I ever come across a 10L demo, I just simply would not pay that for a demo period. And yes they do send these to the creator's email as a sales item.
  12. yup me too. I wonder if designers who use the time out demos with a very short time out on them, realize that they are losing sales because of their demos. The whole purpose of a demo is to see if the item stands up to the way you intend to use it and yes that often includes checking the item under animation and dance circumstances etc. How, can the designer expect to make a sale if the demo item poofs part way through the testing process? Most of us are going to be so annoyed that we just delete the demo and move on to something else.. who has the time to go get another demo, or even re rezz the original box to get another copy if that is in fact even possible, which in many cases it is not.
  13. Not really a rant at all, I think you are just voicing what a lot of us are thinking.. Time outs on demos are indeed a pain in the XXXX. I also hate all those boxes and ring attachments on demos, most times I can't see how the item looks at all on me because it is obscured completely by those annoying rings/boxes/ whatever. Just give me a demo of the actual item with DEMO stamped on it somewhere .. at least with that I can see the fit which after all is the reason for the demo in the first place.. Isn't it?
  14. As far as I can tell the issue of thigh gap has to do with the amount of hip width you have on the body. The wider the hips, the bigger the gap cause it pushes the legs out toward the outside.. so given that.. if clothing is made and rigged for a certain mesh body, yup there might be issues with pants. And since most mesh bodies do not have that wide hips thing, then the parameters that designers have to work with when they rig the mesh, will not allow for extra wide hips.. thus the poke through on the thigh if the thighs are large as well.. It would be nice to have a user tool that actually works the way fitmesh is supposed too, but alas no one has come up with anything like that yet. Having said that; there are some designers who make pants purposely with a thigh gap, no idea why, but they are out there.. I also demo all pants just so I don't end up with a thigh gap which btw I also hate.. lol. Hope you find some that work for you.
  15. Hmmm I fail to see why template outfits are so "much looked down upon". A template is just that, I look at it as a canvas upon which to create something beautiful. A well made template can be an artists joy. I create from templates simply because I love to texture them with my own creativity. I do however, not see the point of taking a template and using the textures supplied with it, and just selling the item as it comes out of the box. Where is the creativity in that? As for the bodies I look for in a template: if it does not contain at least, Belleza (all three). Slink (both, and Maitreya I won't even consider using it. Any others included such as Tonic, or eBody are a plus.
  16. I for one will be very happy when bakes on mesh actually gets here. It will be so nice to be able to leave appliers behind. And when that happens, creators will have the choice (like with the original classic layers and avatars) to make a layer item for one or all three layers. But then of course there will always be the person who whines about not being able to put their pants on the tattoo layer... lol
  17. No idea what it is, but I rather doubt that it is Catwa, it is a little too umm ... well just not Catwa style.. I would try some of the more obscure makers who specialize in rather bizarre items.
  18. I believe there is a forum just for those who want to sell or trade Gacha items.. doubt you will get much response in this forum for that. And I also believe there is an inworld group created just for the purpose of swapping, and/or selling Gacha items as well. You would probably do better there.
  19. I assume you are talking about appliers on an omega hud for a mesh body. Depends on the body the appliers are made for, some body appliers go directly to only one layer, and some give you a menu with a choice of which layer you want to apply it to. It all depends on how the the body maker, configured the kits they give out to the folks making the appliers.. The creator of the leggings may not have had a choice of putting them on 3 layers, she/he may have been restricted to using just the one the body maker allows. At any rate you might have considered sending a polite note card to the creator of the appliers, to ask why you can only apply to one layer before you went and gave a bad review. Perhaps it was an error that she/he needs to know about to correct, or perhaps as I say he/she did not have a choice in the matter of layers options.
  20. I wasn't aware there were any full permission mesh bodies available .. but then I haven't been looking either lol.. But I imagine if there were any, what you would have to get with the package is the .dae files.. that would allow you to upload the .dae file to Blender or another 3D program that accepts .dae files. IF there is a full perm body that you are interested in make sure you can get the .dae files for it otherwise there is no way to get the actual body into blender.
  21. I believe this is a form of advertising, which is not allowed in this forum.
  22. Wow Skell, you just gave me something to think about, thank you!
  23. well don't think I can do the survey since I am not a guy, but I can say that My hubby in SL, has the same issue you do Markiz, when he hears of one he didn't know about he checks it out and he keeps a list of the ones he likes.. hate to say it but that list is pretty short. He keeps bugging me to make men's stuff, so I made a few items, but I gotta say I had to dump a whole lot more than ever got to the store lol.. mainly because according to my hubby they were too feminine lol.. so obviously I am not suited to making male clothing lol.. Anyhow, if you get a list going again I know he would be interested.. I will send him to the link for the survey.
  24. got it great thanks. I went to the web page for it and saw that it was discounted quite a bit, but got distracted and when I got back to it two hrs later, the price had gone up, was still discounted but not as much.. So looks like I will be watching for a really good discount since it seems to change so frequently lol.
  25. Me too! Many times I have incorporated an applier top to go with a mesh suit, simply because a mesh shirt would not fit properly under the jacket. Or give a nice neat tucked in look with pants.. But since so many folks seem to be anti appliers (or system layer clothes in general) I don't do it as often as I would like to, but with BOM on the way.. I am excited for the possibilities that will offer.
