  1. Also, confirmation of whether Firestorm is actually even seeing your GPU will be shown if you look at the viewer's page found under Help -> About Firestorm (top bar menus of Firestorm Viewer). A load of other interesting information will also be found there. Although probably not directly relevant in this case, it wouldn't hurt at all if you copy/paste all of that page into a post here. I'm assuming that you can at least successfully open and display the login page!
  2. We were tearing our hair out over this, not so very long ago, in one of the forum's Technical sections. Without bothering to try and find it, I can offer a bit of help to reduce the risk of uncontrolled scrolling: - Open a second inventory floater. This will be the destination. Make it as wide as possible; at least wide enough to get rid of the bottom (horizontal) scroll bar. The original inventory floater serves as the source and can be as small as you like. Park the two inventory floaters together, side by side. Drag files from source inventory to destination inventory. If you're still not careful, unwanted scrolling can still happen, but the risk is reduced quite a lot. A decent fix for this is desperately required. Good luck!
  3. No, not separate. I figured the caches should be on the fastest drive, and that's where they defaulted to. However, given your experience, it will surely be worth a go to put the caches on the other drive which is a 2TB SEAGATE FIRECUDA 2.5" SSHD, which should still provide a reasonably speedy performance. I'll try this out over the holiday period and see what results.
  4. Yes, very interesting. I too am getting a type of freezing, mainly noticable with trying to move my cursor around, since "upgrading" to W 11. It does not happen all the time, but when it does, it is really frustrating. This is using Firestorm on fairly decent laptop with an i7 8750H paired with a GTX 1070 Max-Q and 32GB DDR4 Ram. My caches are on a 256GB M.2, PCIe NVMe SSD. I had been suspecting throttling of some sort because it does run hot; CPU temperatures in the 80 - 85C range are common and spikes up to 90C do happen. I need to try different viewers and, when I can lay my hands on one, a different computer.
  5. Hi @AmeliaW25 Firstly, check whether chat log files are being generated properly. Logged in, in Firestorm, go to Preferences (Ctrl+P) -> Network & Files -> Directories Tab. This should reveal your "Conversation logs and transcripts location". If this field is blank, the logs are not being saved. If so, use the Set button to create a location and press OK to save the new setting. (The normal location should be something like C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Firestorm_x64\[accountname]_resident. You can, however, set this to wherever you like.) Otherwise, use the Open button, which will open the File Explorer at the log files folder. Inside there, scroll down until you find files named "chat-YYYY-MM-DD" for each 24 hr period. Open one that is at least a couple of weeks old, and then the latest one, to see if they contain decent records. At that point, come back to this forum and let us know what you have found.
  6. I experience exactly the same sort of thing; large areas of ground and buildings missing. It is not consistent though. Sometimes everything rezzes in just fine; another time they don't. When the problem does occur, only a re-log will fix things.
  7. Hi Peggy, It does sound as if you are falling victim to the "quick shutdown" problem but there are many reasons why this can happen. A very comprehensive guide is to be found in Firestorm's notes on missing Inventory: - https://wiki.firestormviewer.org/fs_missing_inventory?s[]=inventory&s[]=loss The basic "get my inventory to fully reload again" procedure is to simply log into a quiet region* somewhere, having cleared your inventory first. It should fully reload - just be patient while it does! You didn't say what viewer you are using but, if it is not the standard LL viewer, and the above procedure does not work, try logging in similarly with the standard LL viewer instead. * Any Linden water region will usually do; the notes referenced above suggest a few. HATTON used to be a favourite and still works fine, last time I tried it. PS If the search-term highlighting still shows on Firestorm's guide, simply click the magnifying-glass symbol at the Search box near the top. That will clear the search I used to find that document and the highlighting will disappear.
  8. This may have been inadvertently misworded. A far more open proposition would be something like. "To investigate the reasons that people buy non-essential goods in both the real world and virtual worlds, and to determine if any corellations can be drawn". I cannot help feeling a little uncomfortable when a researcher openly declares the desired outcome at the commencement of their research!
  9. I guess it would be worth trying to find out what the manufacturer's recommendation for resolution was. 1680x979 might turn out to be the actual resolution required for the display screen, albeit an unusual one, and may well be on the list of selectable choices when setting up the display.
  10. Just the same. There's one particular region that, when TP-ed into, refuses to rez any of the (mesh) buildings, paths and landscaping in one corner, leaving a vast open space. It only happens when I TP to there and a relog is the only way to get it all to rez; none of the other possible solutions work. This has been the case for a long time now (although I really can't remember when it started to be a problem). Another region (private island) that I regularly visit showed similar problems, where a whole corner of a large mansion would fail to rez. I could see dancers, dancing away, suspended in a sea of nothingness. In both cases, it was always the same areas that wouldn't rez. A relog did fix it, but that is an annoying thing to have to do. I have also had a couple of my objects disappear without trace. Fortunately, there were copyable ones and I was able to replace them with a fresh copy. The original never showed up. This hasn't happened again in the last two or three months though - thank goodness.
  11. Almost anything but that! But if @Aishagainis correct, the resolution might be red herring. The normal HD resolution in that range would be 1600 x 900 (HD+). The old EGA sytems used a 1680 x 1050 resolution, which I think was named WSXGA+, but it's very unlikely that EGA was being used in this case.
  12. 1680x979 is a most unusual resolution setting. Does anybody know if this could be an issue?
  13. I know that chat can be spammed like this but I've never come across voice being attacked in this way. Anyone got any ideas how this might be possible? It might be something we all need to look out for.
  14. A: "I think my car is going really slowly" B: "what car do you have?" A: "A bue one" B: [author redacted]
  15. Thanks @Angelica Bovarro Nothing looks bad there to me, so now it's probably time to have a good check of your router. SL tends to be very sensitive to time-outs and this might be what is causing your problems. Start with a proper power-cycle of your router; turn the power to it off for at least a couple of minutes, then restart it. If that doesn't improve things, if you use a WiFi connection, try a cable connection directly to your router. Let us know how things are after all that. PS: Is 8MB enough for Windows 11? I haven't adopted W11 yet, so not sure. 8MB is a bit on the tight side for Windows 10 but I wouldn't expect that to cause crashes. Maybe a bit slow on performance but not crashing. Somebody on this forum will know, I'm sure.
  16. Hi @Angelica Bovarro Let us see your system details. Open your viewer (and log in, if you can). Go to your viewer's top bar menus: - Help -> About [viewer name] and copy/paste everything on that page to a post here. That will enable us to know what we're dealing with, and can often reveal some of the usual suspects.
  17. It has been embedded in the Bellisseria Covenant for some time now. Too many people don't even know that a Covenant exists, so it's not surprising that infringements occur. I find it hard to believe that someone would stick a perfectly rectangular covering of deep snow (or even "a light dusting", for that matter) in the middle of semi-tropical appearing houseboats, for example, but they will! This is the actual wording from the covenant, for information: - == Seasonal & Holiday Content == *Seasonal and holiday decorations are permitted as long as they are tastefully applied. *Natural seasonal elements are permitted if they are applied subtly, such as a light dusting of snow or a scatter of leaves. *Outdoor holiday decorations should be congruent with the holiday season (no Christmas decorations in May or Halloween decor in April for example). *Remember to keep all seasonal and holiday decorations within the borders of your parcel and ensure that no content extends over the parcel lines. *Decoration should not be placed out any earlier than 30 days in advance of any holiday or season represented and must be removed within 15 days of the holiday or season passing.
  18. I see regular comments about the weakness of WiFi. Don't be too hard on Wifi! Modern mesh WiFi Sytems are actually very good and can maintain both speed and quality. But, fair do, even the modern mesh sytems are still vulnerable to interference and blockages, so some sensible care needs to be taken.
  19. As a non-USA resident, I find SLT to be a highly confusing concept around the time that "Daylight Savings" or "Summer time" variations kick in or out. SLT is "SLT" in both phases, so a knowledge of the exact dates that the changes occur is required. This would be easier if the USA and Europe changed times on the same dates, but they don't. Okay, I admit that it is only a couple of weeks each time that the clocks change when confusion reigns, but it would be completely avoided if Pacific Standard Time or Pacific Daylight Time (PST/PDT) were used instead of SLT. Just to add into the mix, not everywhere changes times anyway. So, my vote goes to displaying exactly where Second Life is, at any time of the year, by displaying PST or PDT as appropriate. At least that way we'd know exactly where to start our conversion from. Now to get the plussing or minussing right!
  20. As far as I can make out, as stated above, a year ago the problem was simply caused by a certificate becoming invalid and there was a period when the new certificate details had not been pushed out to the TPVs. Once that was done, and the other viewers were updated, all was well again. This time, it is anyone's guess as to what your problem might be being caused by. A good start would be for you to provide more details - which viewer you are using, any error messages (copy/paste the exact messages into a post here) etc... ... and it never hurts to include your system details from (the viewer's top bar menus) Help -> About [viewername]. I haven't heard of any particular problem that has arisen with the beta grid. As some more people see this post, we might get some more help. Some people have had problems logging into the main grid recently - maybe related?
  21. For sailing, too! Kicking the minimap and the world map off the skipper's screen would be fabulous, and could be made big enough to read at a glance. Screen space is so precious in a visually critical application like SL. I used to log my alt in as a crew member on another laptop I'd been nursing into old age and that worked very well. Sadly, that laptop did die and is uneconomical to repair. Maybe I can source a secondhand laptop that would do the job, but you never really know what you're getting. On the other hand, I can buy a brand new 23/24 inch full HD monitor for around £100 in the UK. Either way, firstly, I'm waiting to see how the household budget holds up over this winter! This sort of feature has been called for, for a very long time it seems. Does it help or hinder if we all put in feature requests?
  22. There is a small square of separate parcel of land in the North-East corner of most of the Blake Sea regions. You can rez in these small parcels. As far as I remember, all of the plain sea regions have one of these. Ideally, you need to be able to show Parcel boundaries on your Minimap; that will enable you to make sure that you are inside that small parcel before you try.
  23. I'm getting them to appear - eventually! Very noticably slower than usual.
  24. This has got to be a "now you see it, now you still see it" bug! It's occurring pretty well every log in. It's suggested that it might be a region/server issue. Let's see what things look like after the restarts this week.
