  1. @sweetindifference, You might already be aware, but there's a few things you can do to minimise the risks of region crossings failing:- * Remove all possible scripts from your avatar(s) * Keep a steady course as you cross * Avoid the region corners and, wherever possible, avoid quick succession crossings (such as will happen if you cross at an angle, close to a corner, causing you to enter a new region but then almost immediately enter another). LL made some improvements in these areas but, in general, avoid them. Making sure that your avatar(s) are not carrying a bunch of scripts is probably the most important. Remember, when you cross a region border, everything has to be packaged up, sent to the new server, unpacked, scripts restarted and everything re-established in the new region. The less stuff there is, the easier and less accident-prone it all becomes. There is no doubt that some boats are scripted better than others for dealing with region crossings, and there are some modifying scripts that might help (if your boat is "moddable"). As I have never really properly understood which of those scripts are good for which boats, I'll leave any further comments on that to those with better knowledge**. ** In fact, I'd be delighted if somebody could explain that for me!
  2. Bellisseria, or the old Linden Homes? If Bellisseria, this is the second time that a poster has recently slated Bellisseria as being bad for lag, but that is not my experience at all. Either way, something nasty must be rezzed in the vicinity. That needs to be located before the whole area is written off as laggy.
  3. I was working with a great bunch of people at the time and, one day, one said that she had found this site that we could all join and have a ball together. We joined, and we did! We still are, despite most of us being apart from each other these days in RL. That's nice!
  4. Ah.... you are connecting via a satellite link. That can be slow enough, given the long distances the signals have to travel, to cause problems. I have managed to keep a decent connection to SL via satellite, when on board a ship a few years ago, but there is nothing much around to interfere with the signal when you're in the middle of the ocean! Have you had a successful connection via the satellite in the past? Is this something which has only recently occured, or is this your first attempt to connect to SL this way?
  5. @Aishagain - good point! So easily forgotten, too. Just missing one of those folders/files can be devastating if your antivirus insists on scanning it every time it is accessed - roll on another disconnection!
  6. @Nikita Neuman I would never completely discount problems with my ISP but, in this day and age, things have generally improved for most people to a point where it wouldn't be the first thing to suspect. The same seems to go for connections over home WiFi, where standards have improved a great deal over the last few years. WiFi will always be at risk of interference from other sources though and, if so, can be a prime cause of packet loss, which your connection to SL is particularly sensitive to. Packet loss is a good pointer to a dodgy connection; it can be read in the Help - About [viewer name] once you are logged in and settled down after a few minutes (assuming you can keep connected that long!). Ideally, it should be zero. Anything more than 2% (maybe even less) can be very disruptive. If you are using WiFi and are showing packet loss, start by connecting directly to your router with a cable and see if that solves things. If it does, now you can chase after what's wrong with the WiFi - loose plugs, interference, router faulty etc. So, definitely make sure that things are running well at your end of the deal before looking further afield. There are other things that might be causing your problem though. If you need to ask for further help here, copy/paste that page from Help - About [viewer name] (from the top bar menus of your viewer). Something else might show up.
  7. Somebody has got to say this bluntly, so I will! You've got a horse and cart out on the freeway and you're complaining that it's everybody else's fault that it keeps getting run over by the traffic! That really is a bit naughty of you. Try retiring the horse and bolting a 750cc motorcycle in the draw bars (follow all the advice above) and you might just get a surprisingly useful result. Good luck!
  8. You might find this WiKi FAQ page helpful, too:- https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Adult_Content_FAQ
  9. I use Firestorm and, although I've only ever had occasion to remove someone from a group a couple of times, it has never resulted in losing connection. Maybe something has cropped up with changes made by LL since I last did that, which certainly was a long time ago. It will be interesting to see if anybody else has seen the same problem. I can't think of any reason that sort of operation could lead to a disconnection, unless somehow your viewer locks itself into a loop leading to a time-out situation. My first suspicions fall on your viewer. Have you tried with a different viewer? Trying with the official Linden viewer would be a good test.
  10. I'm not sure how this works in other viewers but, with Firestorm, I have sometimes forgotten to click OK before exiting the Preferences menu, and my new settings do not get registered. Hopefully, you are not as daft as I am, but it's worth a mention!
  11. This used to be a common "non-problem". It is easy to miss the little drop-down arrow that reveals all the homes available (when you first choose your home, which will happen when ever you do not currently have one). Is this the case? As a month has gone by since you mentioned this, maybe not
  12. Just to clarify - I was referring to parcels with nobody there at all; no bots, AFKers or terdburgers. So, "the issue with those" had nothing to do with that sort of thing. I fully agree with you, though; they're all very good reasons for leaving. (I might have spelt something wrong there - just in case.)
  13. I never fail to be highly amused when somebody arrives at a site, finds nobody there, moans to themselves, "There's never anyone here!"... ... and leaves!
  14. I seem to remember @Beq Janus saying recently that they were waiting for LL to get their Performance Viewer out on release, before releasing an updated Firestorm version with the performance upgrades. Maybe Beq can give us the latest on this?
  15. Present those sort of statistics in the form of "[event] per 1000km driven" and they might just begin to take on some meaning. I am quite convinced that women drivers are, indeed, safer drivers. Not by those "statistics", though.
  16. A 1024m draw distance has been thrown into the mix, I see from the Jira submitted. Is there a presumption that, provided there is lashings of video memory in use, high graphics settings will be ok?
  17. @Sid Nagy - I use the same ploy from the UK. Paypal does the £ -> US$ conversion and Tilia/LL only ever sees a plain US$ transaction.
  18. I'd like to clarify some terms which might be getting confused with each other. There are significant differences between them. It would be helpful to be certain about which is being referred to. Ejected; Pushed off the parcel onto an adjacent parcel, or just outside the region. Sent Home; Teleported to your home location (or one of the Hubs, if no home location is set). If driving a vehicle, this will really spoil your day by detaching you from the vehicle (which will eventually end up in your Lost and Found folder). Bad news for some poor soul who has temporarily lost control during a lag spike and run over a parcel boundary, if given no time to recover and get back on the road, for example. Orbited; Often abbreviated to "orbed". Does this now mean, "attacked by an Orb (a security orb) or actually "orbited"? To be orbited means that you will get forcibly shot up to the SL ceiling. Recovery from this can be difficult; relogging often being the easiest way. "Orbiting" should only be used in RP/Combat situations where everyone is in agreement. Otherwise, it would be considered as griefing.
  19. I dug a bit deeper into this. It appears that any charity registered in the European Economic Area (EEA, which is the EU plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) also qualifies for UK Gift Aid. (Certain sports clubs can qualify too.) Provided you are a UK taxpayer, the charity can reclaim the basic rate of tax that had been charged on the funds that the donation was made from. The current basic rate is 20% but, because the calculation is made on the gross amount before tax was deducted, the effect is that the charity can recover an extra 25%. So, for example, donate £100 and the charity can claim an extra £25 making the donation worth £125. Definitely worth a bit of extra paperwork! Qualifying charities can also benefit from higher-rate (40%) taxpayers. Just be careful with this, though. If charities reclaim more than the actual amount of tax you have paid, you'll end up with a bill from the tax office!
  20. I suspect that people may well to prefer to donate via their own country's systems. I, too, have chosen the Red Cross as a good organisation to send a donation to. In my case, I have sent my donation to the British Red Cross. Not only will this avoid losing a part of the donation to fees charged by outfits such as Go Fund Me, it will also avoid further losses due to echange rate charges and it will enable me to maximise my donation by taking advantage of UK taxation rules for charitable donations. Individual circumstances will vary but, in general, I suspect that most donations will be best made made via the donor's home country organisations.
  21. @Maitimo Fourscore and ten = 90. I think you meant threescore and ten. I take your point though. (Psalm 90)
  22. What error message are you getting? That might give a clue. As far as I can tell, there are no issues with Firestorm viewers logging in.
