  1. Prebuilt? Im gonna guess if its a 745 in there its probably pcie power only. Find something similar under 75w because thats a huge bottleneck. Thats a decent LGA 1150 quadcore paired with a low tier GPU. I suggest a 1050ti if you want the absolute newest, or an RX 460/560 for a similar use case. Im gonna say pcie power only. GTX 745's are OEM cards and only really come in things like Dell prebuilts that never have a quality PSU, even if they had the pcie connector i would personally never use it on a cheap power supply. Optimally a 4770 would be paired with that recommendation of a 1060 or a 1070, though its locked the 4770 still holds its own up to about the GTX 1080. 470/480/570/580 are still being bought up by bitcoin miners so theyre out of the question anyway. RX 560, 1050ti, GTX 950 or a 750ti honestly would be a HUGE upgrade over the 745 on its own and its not even that big of a jump. http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-750-Ti-vs-Nvidia-GTX-745-OEM/2187vs2638 http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1050-Ti-vs-Nvidia-GTX-745-OEM/3649vs2638 http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-RX-560-vs-Nvidia-GTX-745-OEM/3926vs2638 http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-950-vs-Nvidia-GTX-745-OEM/3510vs2638 Changing out a GPU is a very easy task, especially one that doesnt require any extra power connectors. MSI has a quick guide on it: https://www.msi.com/blog/pc-gaming-101-how-to-upgrade-your-graphics-card Basically uninstall current drivers, open it up, remove 1 or 2 screws and press a little lever on the slot and pull it out. Plug in the new one and screw it back down. Install drivers and youre good to go.
  2. Always, if i didnt mind the game looking mediocre id just play something that looks god awful by default like IMVU. I usually play with everything but depth of field on. Athlon 5350, 750ti, 16gb of DDR3, Windows 8.1, 1080p monitor.
  3. Ive been running SL in the background almost daily for a variety of reasons. Ive got a few friends who only contact me through SL so i like to catch the dings from chats, and my wifi adapter is a piece of crap that stops working as soon as im not using it, so i keep SL running when im on my computer to keep the wifi adapter working. So id say like 8 hours a day, but actually playing maybe 2 hours.
  4. I got the LL viewer to run fine with Linux. The problem is that its 32 bit and even installing 32 bit compatibility packages wont let it run on 64 bit Linux. Ran fine for me on 32 bit Lubuntu 16.04 and CentOS 7 Running the windows version through Wine may or may not work, programs like SL that require a lot of Windows only protocols for things like network connectivity and all that may not work under wine on every machine.
  5. I mean thats definitely pretty outdated hardware, but it should be holding 20fps on medium low. It may be an issue related the recent update, a lot of people are talking about sudden worse performance. We'll see if thats the case in the future id guess? For the time being, check for any kind of performance related issues such as excessive heat from dust buildup, make sure your GPU is being used over the integrated stuff as well.
  6. I summarized this on the cross-post from Technology > Viewer To tl;dr it, pretty much no matter what it is, SL either wont even start or it will be so terrible and laggy it would be considered unplayable by even the most hardcore 1fps dwarf fortress players.
  7. Nothing fancy, all inside a Cooler Master Elite 110, specs below. Its an olllllllld picture, ive since upgraded to 16gb of DDR3 instead of the previous 8gb kit. Its a very basic machine, it was originally just a combination of spare parts including a cheap Apvexia PSU, my old 750ti and the guts from my media center build. When i sold my old PC with an i5 4460s, 32gb of DDR3 (though i swiped 16gb for this thing first), dual Sapphire R9 280x's and all that fun stuff this combination became my main PC. Though there was briefly a Core2Duo machine i had lying around in between the two to hold me over while waiting for parts. It aint much but it plays SL at max settings in 1080p just fine, ive been told that 30fps is fine for SL, personally id prefer 60 but whatever. Id get a picture of my desk but its nothing fancy, and my phone is currency my wifi adapter and thats my only camera.
  8. im not really playing secondlife, im afk in the background while playing an RSPS
  9. Yep, joys of necrobumping. For the few topics in this thread: 1) There likely wont be an SL mobile viewer unless mobile devices start to increase in performance. SL is fine on a modern ULV i-series processor and some high end AMD APU's (Bristol Ridge coming out soon should outperform Intel Iris Pro), but mobile devices other than high end tablets really dont have those components. Most Windows 10 tablets and sorts use Atoms or Celerons due to the low wattage compared to 15-35w for i series stuff, and those arent capable of SL on their own. But things like the Apple A processors or the ARM stuff in most android tablets wont be able to play SL. Especially not any cell phones currently. 2) Anything thats telling you to enter your card information, just dont. Contact your bank if you are concerned about your account information having been stolen, with recent stuff like the Equifax Breach.
  10. In that case, without knowing specifically what the machine is, im gonna say its not going to be playable. The pinnacle of the average laptop in 2007 being a Thinkpad T61, you have either Intel Graphics Media accelerator x3100 (most common for ANY laptop of the mobile core2duo era) which wont run Secondlife even with the legacy viewer (ive tried). A quadro NVS 140m or other similar era quadro, which is only better than the integrated stuff in the sense that it has faster and higher amounts of video memory. Which may actually be "playable", but it will not be enjoyable. The game will load, it will have the bare minimum specs on paper (you dont "need" the minimum listed Geforce 6600), but it will be incredibly low framerate on bare minimum settings. http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:T61 Even a decent "gaming laptop" from 2007 youre looking at more mobile core2duos and things like a Quadro FX 1600M, which is bsically an 8700M GT with 256mb of video memory which isnt much better. And really that 8700M GT was about the pinnacle of 2007 laptops. People say (and its true) that CPU is more important for SL, where ya know, a core2duo will be OK, not great, but ok. But this is the point where the old GPU is actually going to be holding you back. If you have anything less than a high end gaming laptop from 2007, sorry, not even the legacy viewer will make the game enjoyable.
  11. Using the legacy viewer i was able to get a fairly playable experience on Windows XP using a Core2Duo E6700 and a Nvidia GT 710 with 3gb of DDR2 You can try that, but due note, that system is pretty much the absolute bare minimum for secondlife. I mean it was 20fps in even places like social island, many places where there were lots of people were entirely unplayable. And it looked a little something like this because Bento parts dont work well on the legacy viewer You can find the "Obsolete Platforms Viewer" down low on this page: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Alternate_Viewers
  12. I cant post pictures of this since its not a very SFW place, but today cheesecurd brought me to some kinda dance club thing and its awesome, just lasers everywhere, people gave me glowsticks and stuff. Its been a blast, techno music and a bunch of half clothed dancing, trying to get a few friends from other locations to show up. edit: i got a pic, i wouldnt post it here but its SFW by what LL considers SFW https://prnt.sc/gq61fm
  13. This was the closest we ever came to nuclear war https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1983_Soviet_nuclear_false_alarm_incident
  14. Yeah thats just a network issue, could be a variety of things from LL servers being slow, to your Ethernet/wifi adapter being buggy, network adapter drivers, physical connection problems, router problems, etc. It could've been your GPU doing something to affect it, but im not sure what, sometimes Nvidia pushes hardware priority to their GPU so your network connection may have been being disconnected when it was idle or something stupid like that. As long as it works, maybe Sora should try the same. Personally ive stuck with 377.88 because ive just been too lazy to bother updating to anything newer with my 750ti.
  15. In your groups menu page, right click the group and click "View Info" and uncheck the "Receive group notices" box.
  16. Both your issue and Magnus's sound like network issues more than anything. Framerate stutter or like things in the game are stuttering? If youre moving and getting stuck and suddenly jumping forward or walking into walls and stuff, thats a network issue, not a graphical issue. Magnus describes that well, getting stuck and then leaping somewhere else, thats your network getting no receive packets from SL to show you where you and other players are. Unless everything looks like its frozen, not just movement, but like absolutely no frames are being shown, theres no lighting changing, no plants waving in the breeze or whatever, then its a different issue. If your looking at the game suddenly freezing and showing you no changes, no animations running or anything and then it suddenly comes back, it would honestly have to be something else. GPU errors wouldnt give short periods of no frames, thats not stutter, something else is causing SL to freeze briefly. Open your statistics menu to watch your framerate and network usage to see whats going on. A 970 or a 780 with updated drivers should be having no issues whatsoever with SL. Maybe try a program like MSI afterburner or whatever to monitor GPU usage, framerate and all that to see whats up.
  17. The vast majority of mobile devices do not have the hardware capability to play a game like secondlife. Most android tablets/phones are incredibly weak compared to even low end laptops and desktops. Especially for rendering 3D worlds like secondlife. You'd get a worse playing experience overall having terrible framerates and overall lagginess on a tiny screen.
  18. Like, maybe really powerful stuff like the iPad pro or Surface tablets, definitely not any other kind of tablet. SL is a really demanding game at times and tablets are nowhere near powerful enough to handle SL. Memory isnt everything, neither do tablets have more memory than the average laptop/desktop. Even the iPad pro has 4gb of ram, while most computers these days have 8 or 16gb. Not to mention processing power, architecture and GPU's.
  19. Id honestly suggest going with the regular LL viewer for performances sake, the ULV i series stuff aint that great and the airs like to thermal throttle. The lower resource usage of the LL viewer would probably be beneficial, along with getting the most priority updates and support from LL compared to many 3rd party viewers which put their time more into the windows versions.
  20. Maybe as an optional roleplay sort of thing, but making something like this part of the game would make it more of a chore and less of a fun experience. "Oh its 3am, i have free time, ill go play SL" "Nevermind, my player is starving and passed out on the sofa" "just like me"
  21. Decided to wear something slightly more formal than my usual lulu sweater for once.

    Doubling

Thats a weird one, double chat is usually an issue related to poor network latency, that can also effect things like double payments, double actions in general, delayed and extended movement, animations, etc. This has been an issue pretty much forever, https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-154 Basically configure your network settings in SL to use less bandwidth, you can usually get away with like 1000kbps/1mbps in most sims unless theres like 2 bajillion people there.
  23. Besides the inappropriate and adult activities, albeit one sided and enjoyable, I made a decent few thousand Lindens from making basic 3D models for people. If you know how to use SketchUp you can probably do some easier mesh work. I made a few guns, gun accessories, a phone, some furniture and decor pieces for a few people. I emailed them the files for everything and received money. No scripting, minimal texture work, not even heavily detailed stuff by any means. There are probably more secure ways of doing that, uploading it yourself and everything, i didn't have the starting capital at all so i just took the gamble that they may screw me over. Nobody ever did thankfully.
  24. Of the few times ive had problems with griefing like excessive particle effects, full on raves showing up in social island, people pushing me around, etc. Its like, its so not a big deal at all. You just block em and they vanish, if being pushed is a big deal, sit down or something, showing a lack of interest, or no reaction will eventually lead them to get bored and bug off somewhere else to be annoying. There are more important issues besides that some people set eachother on fire. Its a virtual avatar, it doesnt suffer any damage or anything, you were just briefly on fire. It happens, its a virtual world where anything can happen, so sometimes youre on fire. It doesnt mimic the real world. And the same goes with text or speech harassment, just block em and move on. The biggest thing that gets griefers or trolls or whatever to keep going, keep annoying people, keep spamming or lagging up a place is for them to gain attention from it. When people start arguments, when people say stop, when people do anything other than press the block button, it just gets worse. Report and ignore has been the basis of almost all Social games since social games were a concept.
  25. As someone who hardly bothers to wear pants half the time, any time i go anywhere that theres a vague dress code i just go business casual, Blazer/Jacket of sorts, collared undershirt, some form of plain shorts/pants. GiZZa has an outfit called a Sidney blazer or something that usually fits that bill, but i have other variants that can change that up a bit. Youre either perfectly dressed, slightly underdressed, or slightly overdressed, minimized risk of not wearing the right outfit if you sort of fit into all dress categories.
