  1. literally the same as always (though with a scarf because... fall), gizza lulu sweater = 10/10 works all the time i have been looking at other clothes but really theres a few issues to deal with, a big one is digitigrade legs, another is that im flat as a board and lastly is that i have a lot of trouble finding clothes that specifically line up with the alphas for the mesh body theres a couple things that ive been looking at but i really want is just some jeans tbh and many jeans dont work with this avatar or this sweater very well
  2. First and foremost, this is the entirely wrong place to put this, this really doesnt even need to be on the forums, if its an actual concern then send an appeal request. Note in the CS: Every section of the forums follows the same rules, adult discussion is no exception. Note that none of these other posts involve any nudity or obscene language or whatever, theyre very carefully worded. You did something that got a Linden to warn you, if you believe it was a mistake and that you did not violate the Community Standards guidelines then you can send them an appeal for your warn.
  3. Sounds like it may be a cache issue, have you tried clearing your cache? I cant think of a 100% reason why it would be the ram upgrade in particular, but maybe things that are cached are specifically directed to your ram and since that changed the cache may not know where to send things.
  4. First off, dont necrobump. Secondly, UK rules dont apply to non UK players. The UK has all these laws on what you can and cant do sexually and in SL those do not apply further than anything involving underage avatars or users. If where you live considers the actions between virtual avatars in an entirely fictional world to be relevant to real world crimes then there is something severely wrong with your government. Think about that for a second, things you do that are technically imaginary, created in a world with no consequence, where everything is artificial, are somehow related to you possibly ending up in court. That is why people make fun of the UK. Your laws strip your freedoms. And further just on rape in second life, there is no way for someone to really rape you. You have to willingly interact with something for that to happen. They cant just suddenly strip you down and go to town whenever with no way for you to control it. In the scenario where you are tricked, you still have the ability at any time to do a few things: 1) Stand up or detach yourself from whatever you are on 2) Go somewhere else 3) Close SecondLife
  5. SI5, lol i know who you're talking about. Honestly just ignore it, all of it, dont interact with any of it, dont even say anything about it. Been going there daily for quite some time and seen both the griefing/spam and the counter-spam that occurs. Its annoying but really you can just block most of it and you dont have to see it.
  6. I genuinely got no idea where you would even go to configure a 3D mouse for SL. Last time i used one was when i got my 1997 Thinkpad 380ED a few years back and had the IBM branded spaceball 2003c. Using the 3dconnexion configuration utility, basically go through the list of presets to see which gives you the functions you want, or configure it yourself to make different interactions do different things. SL just may not recognize what a spacemouse is, so its probably finding one aspect of it and calling it a basic mouse.
  7. got him on his downtime when he wasnt bowling with his cousin or fighting the mob
  8. I read a bit about this and the issues with items not loading or staying grayed out wasnt due to the 1050's, it was due to a large number of people buying laptops that had 1050/1050ti's in them, but their only drive was a 5400rpm 1tb HDD. So they were seeing extremely slow cache issues. This wont be a problem with OP's choice, as it has a 128gb SSD as its main drive. I also cant actually think of a way that a specific modern GPU would cause any performance problems, 10 series are all pretty much the same thing on slightly different fabs.
  9. That would be a good pick. A modern mobile I series processor and a 1050ti will handle SL fine. The 128gb ssd will also help for SL's cache, reducing loading times in places you've already been.
  10. Im gonna add onto this as well, I'm on my phone so editing is not going to be easy so I'm just gonna leave that whole quote uncut. Right now there are 3 optimal choices for low, mid and high end gaming machines on both AMD and Intel (before you go into more money than sense territory, or broke destitute low end). Low end being a Ryzen 3 1200, or Pentium G4560. Mid tier being the R5 1600x or i5 7600k. High end being the R7 1700x or i7 7700k. R5 1600x of course becomes the best overall, it is the best price to performance chip and will suit any single GPU system up to a 1080ti with no problems. Once you get into sli/crossfire or whatever, you should opt for a better cpu. Intel being ahead on overclocking is laughable. Along with the issue with poor quality tim, causing users to rename Skylake "delidlake", Intel really screws over the buyer when it comes to OC potential. You need a K series unlocked processor, and you can only overclock on specific Z series chipsets. You can totally put a 7700k on B250, cant OC. Or a 7700 on Z270, cant oc. Has to be a 7700k on Z720 to OC, and even then its gonna thermal throttle even with decent cooling. AMD having the "if it fits in the socket it will OC" ideology is way better for this. Right now the only chipset that can't overclock is A320. The ultra low end. Even then manufacturers have unofficial updates that let you OC on A320. B350 and X370 both OC any AM4 processor from the APU's to the Athlon to the Ryzen 3/5/7's. Same for previous generations as well, FX was trash but you could OC just about anything. Id also like to add that related to CPU generations from intel, the intel buyer is being ripped off. Gotta buy that newest high end i7, gotta buy the new chipset motherboard for it, etc etc There is next to no base performance difference between a 4790k, 6700k (and in most cases the 4790k actually beats the 6700k) and the 7700k. https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare.php?cmp[]=2275&cmp[]=2565&cmp[]=2874 The 8700k is a performance jump but only because it has 2 more cores. It costs 380-390$ and requires the Z370 chipset. Unlike going from the 6700k to the 7700k, you cant use your previous LGA 1151 motherboard even though its the same socket. Its funny because Intel doesnt need to do anything at all for an 8700k to run on Z270 or even Z170. Its entirely to get you to buy a new motherboard. Both ASUS and Asrock have said that no, it doesnt work, but theres no reason it shouldnt, and they were both able to use their existing z170 and z270 motherboards with 8700k's with custom design bios's. Intel will not let them distribute that bios.
  11. 500w+ gives you room to upgrade without having to buy a new PSU. You could totally go with something like 300w for these low end builds. But why lose 220w of headroom and the 80+ bronze rating, and the connectors, and the future upgradability to save 10-15$? The problem i have with low end CXm power supplies is that they are not made by corsair, they are made by a company called CWT (Channel Well Technology), and they do not use quality components in their devices. They have a decently high failure rate compared to other power supplies in their rating range, ive personally had two of them die, one which refused to work after moving parts to a new case, and one that was DOA and had to be RMA'd. Seasonic, even on the low end is made with fairly good quality components, and its made by seasonic. They dont make bad power supplies, i pick them now every time i need a PSU when i do builds simply because they have the best options for the price, and their quality is unmatched on every level from the low end to the high end. Also it has a 6+2 and a 6 pin pcie power connector which is enough for a 1080ti. Aftermarket 1080ti's may or may not have dual 8 pins, there are many variants however that use the OEM 6 + 8 pins. A 1080ti is a bit dramatic of an example and i personally wouldnt put one on bronze, but you totally could and it wouldnt cause on any problems so long as you dont OC that or the CPU. This is a good idea as well, pick up resale prebuilts for cheap, or anyones old office PC with at minimum a 2nd gen i5 and you can toss a decent GPU in there and be golden. Semi-modern lga 1155 stuff can be found for ~150-200$ on ebay. SL is never gonna go over maybe 1gb of vram usage unless youre playing in extremely high resolutions like 1440p or 4k. For 1080p or less like 99% of the users here, if it has 2gb it will be fine. More or less vram isnt going to cause an issue. You want a generally better performing GPU but buying something with 8gb just because it has 8gb wouldnt be a buying strategy. Something core2duo/quad would be fine, especially some of the newer machines. I ran SL fairly well on a Core2duo E6700 and a Gt710 for quite a time, and honestly compared to OP's APU, a C2D E8400 or something you find in later c2d prebuilts would be a decent performance increase. Moving up to a Core2Quad would be adequate for SL if paired with a decent GPU. A 6600 is slightly better than my Athlon 5350, especially in single core performance, so something like that with a 750ti would give you an experience similar to mine, which is pretty good, 25-35fps in 1080p on generally high settings. And a c2q + 750ti prebuilt is a VERY common project and you can find lots of them on ebay and other sites. Basically one of these: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA8WV5MM3588 Get one of these: https://www.ebay.com/i/272875471134?chn=ps&dispItem=1 Drop in one of these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/182851099301?epid=1581939926 (edit, there may be a size constraint since i think that 780 is inverted ATX, so go with an EVGA mini or Zotac 750ti, since theyre shorter and fit in pretty much anything, that EVGA one on ebay is an example but its a longer variant with two fans) Bam, 170-180$ for a PC with a Core2Quad, 750ti, if you got another 20 bucks to spare, pick up a second HDD and another 4gb of ram and youre good to go. That right there will play SL just fine, no problems whatsoever in 1080p on medium/high settings.
  12. As I said, if you're going to dig around in there you should probably replace the cooler (or at least the fan on it). If you notice in the picture of the system, the fan on the cooler is actually backwards. Computer fans blow air in the direction of the side with the supports and motor, so that fan is sucking air from inside the case and blowing it out. The air inside the case is generally going to be warmer. I presume the fan in the back is set up as an intake to suck in air for the gpu. Measure the fan, because I can't find out what it actually is, computer fans are all measures in MM, it looks like its probably an 80mm fan on the heatsink. Pick up any decent 80mm fan with a 4 pin cpu fan controller header (little itty bitty thing, they also come in Molex which is a large white trapezoid connector). Replacing the fan and having it blow air into the case should improve temps, and if its a nicer fan it should be much quieter. And That's an easy thing to replace too, its just held in by 4 screws and you plug it into the 4 pin connector next to the heatsink that says "cpu fan". Even if the screws don't fit you can honestly stick the thing on with hot glue or double sided tape, that might actually reduce vibration even, lmao.
  13. You'd likely see the CPU bottleneck show up if you paired the 4770 with some gpu suited for 1440p, which a 1060 6gb would be recommended for. Non k i series stuff is similar to how ULV laptop dual cores are. The difference between an i5 4460 and an i7 4770 is very small in real world cpu performance. Basically pairing it with more than a 3gb 1060 and you're better off upgrading to a whole new platform anyway.
  14. Nah, 330w external power brick. No internal PSU. You could put a 6gb 1060 in this thing but theres not much point, 3gb is fine for 1080p and the 4770 would struggle in higher res. Even though the 3gb card is weaker otherwise compared to the 6gb one, the performance increase would be minimal with the 4770 in there.
  15. The 4770 is still a decent CPU. So a GPU upgrade is probably a good choice. Though im gonna say right now, its going to be a pain in the butt to work on. The X51R2 being as small and compact as it is. Pulling the specs off of here: https://www.cnet.com/products/alienware-x51-r2-dt-core-i7-4770-3-4-ghz-8-gb-1-tb-ax51r29300bk/specs/ Heres 8gb of compatible ram, just basic stuff. You need EXACTLY this, has to be 1600mhz 240 pin DDR3 or it wont work with this system. Timings may be different but your memory controller compensates for that. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231636 The GPU is going to suck to work with though, because its on a special bracket and a PCIe riser, and just take this slow and careful. Your guts look a bit like this: GPU on the right its separate bracket. Now a thing here going to be compatibility, if you have a 760, and this machine originally had a 660, you have a single 6 pin power connector to work with. The card is 140w so its going to be best to stick around that current wattage with cards that only have a single 6 pin required. Looking into modern cards, your best bet is going to be something like a GTX 1060, which is a 120w card, it will fit in well here and will pair well with a 4770. I suggest buying a smaller one just to give it some breathing room, as the OEM card is 9.8" and the 660 in the picture is 9.5". That may cause issues with thermals as these machines are designed for blower cooler cards, they have one intake fan and blow hot air out the back. The small form factor 1060's are not like that and may not perform as well temperature wise. So i suggest this: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16814500405 Its the 3gb small form factor variant 1060 from zotac. Its a good card, not much to say about it, the 3gb 1060 isnt as powerful as a 6gb 1060 but this will fit, and it will stay cool, and it greatly outperforms your 760. While youre digging around in the thing, i high suggest replacing the cpu cooler. Those stock coolers in a compact system tend to run very hot, and over time the fans get noisy. Honestly anything thats low profile and will fit on the LGA 1150 socket will do just fine. One of these would be a good choice, its quiet and fits in any lga 115x machine. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608029
  16. Heres the wiki article on what a Prim or Primitive is. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Primitive Basically is a base 3D object that can be manipulated to create other objects.
  17. 4gb is realistically fine for a single instance of SL and a web browser or whatever. But as i said, 8gb would be better, 16gb really wouldnt be used, at all, on a system like this. Ive only got 16gb in my Athlon 5350 + 750ti build because i use to have 32gb and didnt want to split the 16gb kit when i sold the excess ram. I never get over 6gb of ram usage even with 2 viewers open with firefox going with multiple tabs. 8gb is the better option for a future upgrade though, to be able to hit 16gb. The PSU is fine, its 520w bronze, while that system wont draw near that PSU's even most efficient output level, 520w gives you room to upgrade to a 95w processor and higher wattage GPU in the future. Meaning you could stick with it from Athlon + 550 to 1800x + 1080ti like i said. I personally wouldnt use a bronze rated PSU with a system like that, id upgrade to gold/platinium first, but the 520w will be fine for a single GPU build. And theres no reason to downgrade to save 5-10$ just so you dont have a higher wattage PSU than you really need. By all means i couldve gone with a 350w OEM Seasonic one but theres no real reason to do so. And no harsh feelings, but for the love of god to not buy a low end Corsair PSU, thats just screams "dead in a year". Corsair makes some nice high end stuff, EVGA is great for the 700-900w zone, but Seasonic is the best overall. Best low end stuff, best mid tier stuff, best high end stuff. And thats not just brand preference, thats like over a decade of proving to be the most reliable. Also dont buy a 270-290x or 370-390x GPU, theyre still sought after by bitcoin miners and their prices are way higher than their performance is actually worth. My R9 280x's were a nightmare as well because they are 300w cards, they are loud, they are hot, and they dont even perform that well.
  18. If building your own, this right here is a pretty good setup for longevity. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/6FwKf8 R5 1600, 6gb GTX 1060, gold rated PSU, 16gb of DDR4. It will last for quite a bit, handle anything 1080p. And you have room for upgrades. And if youre looking for prebuilts, anything with a Ryzen 5 + 1060/1070 will be good for quite a while. Dont bother buying into Intel Kaby Lake or Coffee Lake as they have meager performance gains over Skylake, and you can get Skylake stuff for way cheaper.
  19. http://www.lumiyaviewer.com/ https://worldchat2017.wordpress.com/ http://mobilegridclient.com/ Note that 3D is pretty much not gonna happen. Phones arent there hardware wise yet to run SL smoothly even on a small screen. For mobile chatting though, these apps are great.
  20. >300-350$ Yeah, youre going refurb or really basic desktop. Here's the best I could compile with pcpartpicker for around 300$. You're going to be pirating Windows or using linux for SL. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/7tHswV Now this ain't fancy but its not ya know, crap. Athlon x4 950 is the newest generation of AMD processors, on the AM4 socket, B350 motherboard chipset may even let you overclock a bit. Otherwise its a basic quad-core, its not fancy and doesn't even have integrated graphics, but it will handle SL just fine due to its decent single thread performance. 4gb of DDR4, you can add another stick of that or go with a single 8gb instead. I personally recommend a single 8gb for an upgrade to 16gb in the future. As this machine is technically just fine to be upgraded from bottom tier to extremely high end with only a PSU, CPU and GPU upgrade. B350 chipset can take you from Athlon and 550 to R7 1800x and GTX 1080ti. 1tb 7200rpm WD blue, its tried and true, no need to complicate things. Add a 120gb ssd for ~50$ if you want. Same goes for the case, its a basic Rosewill Matx case, nothing fancy but its not cheap crap and will work fine. For the GPU I went with the RX 550. The cheapest 2gb variant, it performs on par with a 750ti and that's more than enough for SL in 1080p. Its low power, quiet and performs okayish. And finally for the PSU is a Seasonic 520w bronze unit. Its basic but its seasonic, which is a really nice brand and they have a good reputation to where I trust even their absolute cheapest models. If you don't want to build a PC, which I highly reccomend doing on this budget, you can go the path of the used optiplex. And this works on a lot of different tiers too. From an Optiplex 780 you can pick up for maybe 30-60$ you get an 8000 series core2duo, 4gb of ddr3 and usually a mid size HDD and windows 7. From there you can upgrade to the chipsets respective core2quad and 8gb of ddr3, more storage, and then add a low power GPU. If its a full width tower anything that's pci power only will be fine, GT 730, 750ti, R5 250, RX 550/460, GT 1030, etc If its low profile SFF you need a small card though, and low profile gpus can be more expensive than their full size counterparts. Other than all that, hit up sites like newegg and look for prebuilt PC's or part combos in your price range. Look for a decently modern quad-core on something that has room to upgrade. For example, https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883286338 its an HP Pavillion Pavilion 550-339, which is kinda, meh? But its an A10-8750 with 12gb of ram and a 2tb HDD, comes with what looks like an R7 240? The A10 isnt bad, performs a little bit lower than the athlon x4 950 but only by a little bit. Still a decent quadcore. HP Says it can be upgraded aswell, considering its just an FM2+ board in there. And it has a full pcie x16 slot with room for a large double slot card in the future. Though that would be kind of a waste on FM2+ tbh. I imagine going up to something like a GTX 1050ti or RX 560 would be a good upgrade in the future. And because its ATX you could upgrade the power supply and everything if you wanted to. https://support.hp.com/lt-en/document/c05235551
  21. Well the title is self explainatory, who uses a text only viewer, how well does it treat you, are you ok with the obvious downsides of no 3D, which viewer do you use? Whats your reason too? Dont need 3d, just want a chatroom, toaster PC, dont want a full viewer running in the background? This is my usual setup when im on my Thinkpad G40 (this is my glawk fowty, my problem solver right here) Yes, that is Windows XP. Running on a 2.8ghz Northwood Pentium 4, 1gb of RAM, Intel Extreme Graphics and a 40gb 4200RPM HDD. Its actually a pretty unique machine because the Thinkpad G40 is a desktop replacement laptop, it has a desktop Pentium 4 in it, not a mobile one. And as a result has a dual fan 3 pound block of copper as a cooler to keep a 70w processor cool.
  22. NCI, went there as a scrub to get help with learning how to customize my avatar. Now I go there to chat and help others with their technical problems. I play tech support on prettt much every single game I've ever played. So finding a place to do that on SL is nice. I usually play on Radeghast when I'm there since I can play on a laptop from 2003 instead of having to use my desktop. And that's fine since nothing much goes on there that really needs a 3D view.
  23. I think if you willingly loan someone lindens its not protected by LL. Theres nothing binding you could really do to make sure they pay you back. Personally, i wouldnt lend them the money. They have no obligation to pay you back and whatever they need money for now, they can acquire themselves later.
