  1. Tattoos stay on the body until you either replace them or hide/remove them using the Layers page of the Maitreya HUD. If you have a tattoo you want to wear regularly but not all the time, you could of course use the HUD to show/hide it each time you change outfit, but another way is to make a copy of your body, apply the tattoo to one of them, and include the appropriate copy of the body in each outfit. That way you won't have to fiddle with the HUD every time you change your outfit.
  2. Thanks Fiona. I have a good wired internet connection. The speed test at http://tucson.speedtest.net (the test recommended in the Firestorm support wiki) gives Ping time 146 ms, Download speed 23.29 Mbps, Upload speed 4.80 Mbps. My max bandwidth is set at 1500, as recommended.
  3. Hi everybody. Often when I try teleporting using Firestorm, the teleport starts and the progress bar gets maybe half-way with the "requesting teleport" status but then seems to hang, and there is no Cancel button, no menu, no way out of it, even Ctrl-Q doesn't work. I wait there, unable to tell my friends that yes I really am on my way, and eventually after a couple of minutes, the only thing I can do is the drastic step of killing the Firestorm process, launch it again and log in, and try the teleport again, which then usually works immediately. The sims I am trying to get to are nothing special, usually fairly quiet. I have read that a big load of attachments can slow teleports, but I never wear more than a mainstream mesh body and head, basic clothes/hair/jewellery, and no HUDs, with ARC of 50k or so. Can anybody suggest what might be going wrong here? Thanks a lot.
  4. Another option might be if your dress package includes rigged sizes (i.e. S/M/L etc.), you can try wearing one of those, adjust your shape to fit the edges of the dress (neckline etc.), then use alpha cuts to hide any remaining cutting.
  5. Yes, that will work. Another (very popular) option is to use an Omega applier, either a single full-body applier or one for the body and a matching one for the head, which will work on nearly all mesh bodies and heads. However, to use an Omega applier you will need to also get the Omega Relays for Maitreya and Catwa. Skin appliers are sold by many independent skin designers. Any skin that is designed for a mesh body/head is an applier. Yes that's right. However the skin creator might have released a separate but matching applier for Catwa; it might be worth checking.
  6. I use a free mermaid AO from Kona Beach that has a choice of floating stands and walks. It works well.
  7. If somebody's looking for a bit of company and is happy to pay the fee, then that sounds totally fine. Why would anybody else have a problem with it? I don't understand all the negative comments. By the way, OP, are you male or female?
  8. Yes, it's called "bakes on mesh", and it will probably be released later this year, though mesh bodies will have to updated to handle it.
  9. I just realised my AO might have been turned on when I posted my figures, so I turned it off and (hoping nobody was watching my silly walk) tested again. This time I get walk 3.2, run 5.1, fly 16, mild boost 16-18, moderate boost 20-22, strong boost 21-25, all metres per second. The flying results vary a lot because of lag but those are the typical figures I got.
  10. Most products will work without any reliance on the supplier, but the difference with TMP is that their products depend on communicating with TMP servers, which have to be kept running 24/7, and that costs money. According to comments in this forum, they seem to have lost interest in updating or supporting their products, and their market share is constantly declining. They are not going to keep their servers going when they are losing money with no prospect of recovery.
  11. If your skin package includes a system skin and a Maitreya or Omega applier then that is perfect! If you have a Maitreya applier, just wear your Maitreya body and hands and feet, and click the applier. If you have an Omega applier, then to use it on a Maitreya body you will need to get the Omega Relay for Maitreya, wear your Maitreya body and hands and feet, attach both the relay and the applier, and click the applier. You can also use an Omega applier on Slink feet, but first you will need to get the Omega Installer for Slink, wear your Slink feet, and attach and click the installer, which will make the feet Omega-compatible. Then attach the applier and click it to apply the skin.
  12. According to my home-made navigation HUD, which calculates speed from avatar positions over time, walking is about 3.2 m/s, running is about 5.12 m/s, and flying is about 16 m/s.
  13. I think all my hairs were freebies/cheapies (and it shows sometimes!) but there are plenty of hair experts here who I'm sure can help.
  14. I wasn't able to find a suitable fitted hair in my inventory, but here is a rigged hair that I found. At a small breast size the fit is reasonable, but at size 100 the cutting is ridiculous, so this hair is rigged for small-to-medium breasts. Other rigged hairs are rigged for big breasts, so it can certainly be done.
  15. It looks like you are wearing fitmesh hair, which will change shape according to your breast size, but if it is not labelled as fitted for Slink HG or another big-boobed body then it will probably never fit properly. What you can do is use rigged hair and adjust your body shape to fit it.
  16. Applier layers are slightly separated from the body, with the tattoo layer closest to the skin and the clothing layer furthest out. So try using the innermost possible layer for appliers. Unfortunately that jacket does not seem to be properly fitted to take layers into account.
  17. For your skin, you will need to get either: (1) a Catwa or Omega skin applier for your head, in the exact same tone as your body skin, from the same designer, or (2) an Omega full-body skin applier (assuming you are wearing a mesh body) in a tone you like. To use an Omega applier you will also need to have the Omega relay (system kit) for Catwa, and probably also an Omega relay for your body, and attach it to your screen before clicking the applier. Now your shape. When you buy a mesh body it normally comes with a default shape which you can customise to your taste, but then when you buy a head it also comes with a default shape, which would conflict with the shape you are already using for your body. But you can only wear one shape at a time, so you have to merge the two shapes into one. Since the head shape has more settings than the body, that can be used as the basis for your new shape. So, first wear your body shape, right-click your avatar and "appearance -> edit shape". Write down all the settings for your body below the neck, i.e. body, torso, legs. Then get out of that, make a copy of your head shape, call it something like "my new full-body shape", and wear the new shape. Now edit your shape as before, apply the settings that you wrote down to the body/torso/legs sections, and save the shape. You can now work on improving the shape of your head and body to your taste. I have no experience with Catwa eyes and brows, so maybe somebody else can help there.
  18. I assume those textures are for the lower and front upper body sections. They do not follow the standard SL skin mapping, and so can not be used to make an applier for a Maitreya body, or rather they can but the skin would look very strange and certainly not what you want. Maybe you should just forget about these items and look for a finished Maitreya/Omega skin applier?
  19. OK, according to your screenshots what you have is a system skin (which will not work on a mesh body) and a set of textures, but it's not clear what they are. I don't know what you mean by uploading objects and turning them into textures. Can you show us a screenshot of the textures? Now, I look up Mooncat Vanilla in the Marketplace and I find this, which says that the package includes textures for the head. It also says that the item requires the Curious Chinchilla avatar. So, I can't find any indication that it will work on a Maitreya body with any applier system.
  20. To apply a skin or other texture layer to the body, you need either (1) an applier for Maitreya, or (2) both an applier for Omega and the Omega System Kit for Maitreya. To remove a skin from the body, just apply a different skin or select a preset skin from the Maitreya HUD. To remove an applied tattoo or other layer, go to the Layers page in the Maitreya HUD and click the "clear" or "hide" buttons.
  21. Each mesh body and (especially) head has its own style, so it's really a matter of taste which one you go for, though in the case of bodies the availability of clothing specifically designed to fit it with no adjustment is also a major issue. People usually buy the body first before thinking about a head. Have a look at the Mesh Body Addicts website, which has reviews of most popular bodies and a selection of heads and links to the shops where you can get demos. As a guide, the most popular female mesh body currently is Maitreya Lara, followed by the Slink and Belleza models, then Tonic and others like EBody and Altamura. (Hint: EBody do free-but-limited* versions of their bodies) With mesh heads there is no clear market leader so just demo the ones you like the look of. Clothing for system bodies is often heavily discounted, so there are plenty of freebies and bargains to be had. Try freebie meccas like the Free Dove and search the Marketplace by price. Hair will fit any mesh or system head. For skins, you could try the lucky boards at places like 7 Deadly Skins; some of them give system skins. Nice shoes for system bodies are hard to find - if you want to wear dressy heels then you really need a mesh body, or at least mesh feet. And of course make your own shape; avoid the overpriced shape scams that pollute the marketplace. * OK OK, 1 L$
  22. Hmmm ... a rubbishy-looking no-copy ring with no demo, and ... no details given of this "Cancer Research Institute". Even rats smell better than that.
  23. I had that problem with just one friend (that I know of) recently, but it seems to be fixed now. It's still a mystery why it happened.
  24. You can't remove a skin, you can only replace it with another. If you have an Altamura fullbody, i.e. body and head in one, attach both the body HUD and the head HUD to your screen. For an Altamura head, just attach the head HUD and ignore the body-HUD instructions here. You might already have a suitable skin saved in the HUDs. Check the skin tab of the body HUD and if there is a suitable skin in one of the 4 save slots, click it to apply it. Same with the head HUD - click the skin tab (the top one on the right), and if there is a suitable skin in one of the eight save slots, click it to apply it. If you don't already have a suitable skin saved, then first check the skin save slots in both of the HUDs to make sure that there is at least one slot empty in each - you can clear unneeded save slots by clicking the X beside them. Then open the Skin and Makeup Applier HUD that comes with the body/head and click one of the skin tones to apply it and save it. To apply makeup on your head, the same system applies - click the (e.g.) lips tab on the head HUD and if there is a suitable lips colour already saved, click it to apply it, otherwise clear any unneeded save slots and use the Skin/Makeup Applier HUD to apply a lipstick. You can also click the "colour lips" tab at the bottom of the head HUD which allows you add colour to the already-applied lipstick. You can also apply skins and makeup using external Omega appliers, but that is a separate subject. If you are still having problems, please let us have some more details, maybe with screenshots - what body/head do you have, what skins/makeup are you trying to apply, etc.
